Topic: Betsy and the Emperor Napoleon This is the first full biography of the family that became too close to the exiled Napoleon Bonaparte of the adolescent Betsy Balcombe who charmed and provoked him, and of William Balcombe, her father, who narrowly escaped a treason charge because of him, but extricated himself to become the first Colonial Treasurer of New South Wales.
