SPRING PROM - 2016:
The 2015-2016 Bearden High Prom will be at the The Standard (W est Jack son Ave) on April
30, 2016 from 8-midnight. A limited number of 550 tickets sold. Tickets will be sold the two
weeks after spring break. Eligible Seniors may purchase tickets March 21-24 (note that Friday,
March 25th is a holiday), and eligible Juniors and Seniors may purchase tickets the second week,
March 28 - April 1. Tickets will be sold during lunch for $40 each, cash only. Students will need a
photo ID and their eligibility notice from the school.
Eligibility for Prom includes:
1) 10 or fewer u nexcused absences;
2) Being on track to gradu ate in May (Seniors); and
3) NO out-of-schoo l suspensions
All BHS students (including Freshmen and Sophomores as possible dates) will be notified of eligibility
the week before spring break, March 7-11, during advisory. Students are encouraged to keep up
with their own attendance, course completion, and suspension records. After the two weeks of
eligible ticket sales, any remaining tickets will be sold to Juniors and Seniors on a first come, first
served basis. Please note that if suspensions or any excessive absences occur after ticket sales,
students will forfeit their tickets and ticket money will be refunded. These tickets will then be resold
to anyone on the ticket waiting list.
Students with questions should see one of the following prom sponsors in between classes or
before/after sch ool.

BHS Scholarship Highlights –
February- March 2016
Looking for something to do on these cold winter evenings? Take a look at some
highlights from the BHS Scholarship Book! There are so many to choose from. (The
full listings –with details and a link to the scholarship applications - can be found by going
to the BHS website. Hover over “School Counseling” and select “College & Career Center”
from the dropdown menu. The Scholarship Book link is located on the left-hand side.)
Scholarship for Military Children Program - If your mother or father is active duty,
reserve/guard, or retired military personnel or you are the survivor of a deceased member, and
you have a military dependent I.D. card you can apply! Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA and will
be asked to write a short essay. This is a $2,000 scholarship. DEADLINE: February 12, 2016
The Vegetarian Resource Group - The Vegetarian Resource Group will award $20,000 in
college scholarship money to graduating U.S. high school students who have promoted
vegetarianism in their schools and/or communities. Vegetarians do not eat meat, fish, or fowl.
There is one award for $10,000, and two awards of $5,000 each. DEADLINE: February 20, 2016
Society of Professional Journalists Essay Scholarship – Available for grades 9 -12!!
National winners of this essay contest receive scholarship awards ($1,000 for first place; $500
for second; $300 for third). The essay topic is “Why is it important that we have news media
that are independent of the government?” DEADLINE: February 24, 2016-2016
Buick Achievers Scholarship Program - High school seniors who plan to major in a field
of study that focuses on engineering, technology, design or business, with an interest in the
automotive industry, are encouraged to apply. 50 scholarships will be awarded for up to
$25,000/year for four years. DEADLINE: February 29, 2016
Tennessee PTA Teacher & Child Related Services Scholarship - This scholarship
provides a one-time $2,000 non-renewable award for a student working towards a bachelor’s
degree with the goal of becoming a teacher or working in a child-related field such as education,
medicine, law, or any new field of child-related studies. The applicant or a family member must
be an active member of a PTA/PTSA in good standing. DEADLINE: March 1, 2016
East Tennessee Foundation Scholarships – The Scholarship Book offers a partial list of
scholarships available to Knox County seniors through the East Tennessee Foundation.
Students who plan to pursue a degree in business, health-care or medical fields, athletics,
computer science or engineering, science and many others should check the listing and the
website for all the details. DEADLINE: March 14, 2016
Optimist Club of Knoxville – Henry Naff Foundation Scholarship Program - Five
scholarships, for $1,000 each, will be awarded. This is a non-renewable scholarship. The
applicant must have a true financial need; possess a desire and ability to complete their college
degree, have performed well in high school scholastically; and be actively involved in
community and school activities. This is a nomination only scholarship. See Mrs. Mongeon in
the College & Career Center to apply. DEADLINE: March 15, 2016
