Saving Daylight
This Sunday, March 13 is the day for
‘Daylight Saving Time’ adjustments. Officially it is at 2 am on the second Sunday of
March. Most folks just change their clocks
as they go to bed on Saturday night.
In March we ‘Spring Ahead’, meaning we
move our clocks ahead one hour. This will
give us an extra hour of daylight at the end
of the day. It is great for those of us who
love outdoor activities as we can get out for
some afternoon/evening adventures.
Coin Return
“My dog ate a bunch of coins.”
“We can’t do much except wait for it to go
through his system,” replied the vet.
The vet called the next day to ask how
things were going.
“No change yet,” I answered.
Baseball Registration Changed
The registration night for Columbia Valley
Baseball has changed to Wednesday,
March 9 at the Invermere Community Hall
from 5 pm to 7 pm. All kids ages 4 to 18
are invited to join.
You can also get involved as a volunteer
coach or umpire. If you are interested

Fun Curling
Monday, March 14 is the deadline for entering your team into the Canal Flats
Funspiel curling bonspiel. The CF Community Association does an incredible job
hosting this very fun event for curlers of all
ages and skill levels.
Entry cost is only $100/team ($25/person).
This includes your curling and a fantastic
meal on Saturday night. There will also be
silent auction items laid out for bidding.
This is a fundraiser for the community so it
is a great way to offer support while really
enjoying yourself. Call 250-349-5617.
Sweet Comedy
I love to laugh. It is one of the best sensations out there. ‘Yuk Yuk’s on Tour’ is coming to Radium next Saturday, March 19.
Stand-up comedian Derek Sweet will be
performing at the Horsethief Creek Pub.
Derek likes to dig into the audience and
combine mockery with self-deprecating
humour and confessions leading to some
great laughs.
The show begins at 9:30 pm. Tickets are
$10 in advance or $12 at the door

DAYLIGHT SAVING
SUNDAY MARCH 13
SPRING AHEAD
I have been doing a lot of inspirational
reading that reminds me about treating
people well, not judging folks, reducing
stress by not worrying about things I don’t
like and so on. I have written quite a bit
about it, as some of you know.
As it turns out, it is very hard not to be a
hypocrite. I have never realized how much
negative energy and how many negative
thoughts I put out there. Constantly.
I am pretty good at not getting frustrated
with other people and their actions. I can
usually catch myself and change my
thought process.
But I seem to be bad at judging the judgers. I will be listening to someone with an
issue as they complain and I will think,
“Why are you judging that person? You
don’t know why or how they got there.”
And then I realize that I am just doing the
same thing as them. A wise friend suggested just changing the subject if I am
unhappy with the current topic. Tell people
something good about themselves and you
can change the whole direction of a conversation. It’s tricky but effective. Enjoy life.

Spring Poem
I was visiting at Columbia Garden Village
last week and there was a grade 2/3 split
class that was interacting with the seniors.
The kids had a poem and flower pens to
share with the residents. It is a nice poem:
Spring makes the world a happy place.
You see a smile on every face.
Flowers come out and birds arrive,
Oh, isn’t it grand to be alive.
Thanks to the wonderful little girl who presented me with the poem (I am getting up
there) and the special wish at the end that
“you get to go outside and look at and
smell the beautiful flowers”.
Thanks to the teachers and kids for adding
joy to the days of the residents.

I am on an interesting adventure.
I was 8 years old
when Rob and
Trudi picked me
up at the shelter
in Creston. They
weren’t given a
lot of background
information on me so it has been lots of
exploration and lots of discoveries.
I am a lot more comfortable around here
now so I am happy to eat normal dog food
and dog treats; I was really loving human
food before.
I don’t get as frightened and run away from
loud noises in the kitchen anymore; Rob
drops lots of stuff.
I enjoy car rides but really prefer the front
passenger seat; it’s nice to be scratched
under the chin while riding.
I am trying not to bark quite as much;
sometimes the people start ‘barking’ back.
I am not too big on wearing outfits; Tilly
seems to love putting on sweaters and
coats.
And I have been loving some of the places
that they take me. We were at a campground lately. It was pretty nice to have so
much open space. I think they are wondering about my camping and fishing skills. I
did grow up in the Creston area so they
are hoping that I love it. Tilly does. We
shall find out soon enough.

Thirsty Thursday Trivia
Thursday nights at the Bear’s Paw Bar &
Grill in Fairmont are a fun adventure in
trivia. At 7 pm, contestants pay $2/person
(up to 6 people/team) and answer a series
of trivia questions.
Teams can win nightly prizes as well as
prizes for the overall winners through the 5
week series this month (March).
The Bear’s Paw is located in the main
lodge at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort. It is
a beautiful spot.
Name That Tune
There was a time when I listened to a lot of
music. I was a whiz at ‘Name that Tune’.
Life sure does change.
Copper City Saloon at the Best Western
Invermere Inn is hosting ‘Name that Tune’
on Thursday evenings at 8 pm. Sounds
like lots of fun to me.
Enjoy happy hour prices on Arrowhead
and Nelson beverages and a deal on
wings while listening for that familiar beat.
Wedding Blender
Eagle Ranch will be a fantastic venue for
the ‘Wedding Blender’ coming up on Saturday, March 26 (Easter weekend). There
will be lots of local vendors showcasing
their products and services that will help
make your wedding day go smoothly with
lots of extra special moments and memories.

Columbia Valley Better at Home – Serving Seniors
Last week I saw some photos of a huge
mess at Dogleg Lake. It included a list of
the young local folks who left the mess.
This group is developing quite the reputation (campfires during the fire ban last
year) as totally disrespectful to our valley. I
suppose they feel they are entitled to destroy the area because they live here.
Well, that is their journey to figure out.
Thanks to the other folks who show up and
clean up these messes. This is a gorgeous
natural area and it is great to see many
people are happy to help keep it that way.

Where I Was
The photo on page 6 shows some young
curlers at the Invermere District Curling
Centre. Visitors from Sparwood, Elkford
and Cranbrook joined our local juniors for
the wind-up of the Optimist youth program.
A huge thanks to Dave Gaspar and his
helpers for volunteering to run a fantastic
junior program for the last several years. It
has been a great time for the kids and has
produced some really good curlers.

No Faith
A climber fell and managed to grab a
branch part way down the cliff.
“Help, is there anyone up there?”
A majestic voice boomed, “I will help you
my son, but you must have faith in me.”
“Yes, yes, I trust you!?
“Let go of the branch,” boomed the voice.
After a long pause the man shouted, “Is
there anyone else up there?”
Wednesday Night Trivia
Are you looking for an entertaining evening
on a Wednesday night? The Station
Neighbourhood Pub hosts a night of trivia
at 7 pm every Wednesday.
The place is pretty busy as it is a lot of fun
and we all like to think we are pretty good
at remembering things (as it turns out I am
not all that good at it).
Email rob@valleypeak.ca
The cost is only $2/player for teams up to
six players. All the entry money goes into
the prize kitty along with some sponsored
prizes.
Good food, good people and good times
makes for a wonderful Wednesday evening.

Rockies Hockey
The Columbia Valley Rockies held their
awards ceremony last weekend at Copper
Point Resort. Several players received
awards; Michael Cardinal, Ryan St. Jean,
Connor McKay, Giovanni Sambrielaz, Harrison Davies, Nolan Jackie Menard, Davin
Burton and Colby Sherlock. Good job guys.
Volunteer awards were presented to Al
Miller, Greg Geiger and Kelly Eklund.
Thanks to everyone involved in a great
season by the Rockies. I am anticipating
some exciting hockey again next season.

My doctor is pretty technologically advanced. He told me to take two aspirin and
