RTKL POLICIES
•
Depending on the category of the hurricane, if a
mandatory evacuation order occurs, follow the
government- issued evacuation orders.
•
Call RTKL’s emergency message center for up-todate emergency information of when the office
will reopen.

BUILDING EVACUATION
PROCEDURES
•
Evacuate the building immediately in the event of
an emergency.
•
Follow the building’s evacuation procedures.
•
Safety always comes first. Before leaving your
area, gather critical valuables, such as your
wallet, but never at the risk of compromising your
or someone else’s safety.
•
If possible, lock your computer.
•
The Office Manager and/or Receptionist will need
to lock the office gates/doors to secure the office
in the event of an evacuation.
•
Do not use elevators.
•
Exit using the stairs, when applicable.
•
Identify your meeting location which is located on
the back of this brochure.
•
Proceed immediately to your designated meeting
area. Do not stop anywhere else.
•
Please stay in the meeting area until instructed to
re-enter the building.
•
Notify the Fire Warden if you must leave the area.
HURRICANE
•
The Receptionist and/or Office Manager will make
an announcement or send an email in the event of
a hurricane warning.
•
Under a hurricane warning, the building will likely
be shut down by building management. Follow
the building’s evacuation procedures.
TORNADO
•
The Receptionist and/or Office Manager will make
an announcement or send an email in the event of
a tornado warning.
•
Go to small interior rooms without glass or
windows. Refer to your office evacuation map.
•
Protect your face and head with your hands
against falling or flying debris.
•
Do not go outside or leave the building.
FIRE
•
Immediately exit the building according to the
evacuation plan for the building when you hear
the alarm sound.
•
Protect your face and head with your hands
against falling debris.
•
If outdoors, move clear from buildings, trees,
electric wires, street lights to avoid possible
falling debris.
TELEPHONE THREATS
•
If possible, alert someone around you so that
authorities can be contacted.
•
Notify the Receptionist and/or Office Manager
immediately.
NATURAL GAS ODOR
•
If you smell gas, notify the Receptionist to
contact the authorities.
•
Once you are outside, DO NO T SMOKE.
•
If you have a concern about any other odor,
contact the Receptionist and/or Office Manager.
If you have discovered a fire and the alarm has not
sounded:
•
Warn others around you.
•
Get out of the area and pull doors closed.
•
Pull manual alarm box (if one is near) or call 911.
•
Notify the Receptionist so an announcement can
be made.
•
Evacuate the building through the nearest safe
exit.

EARTHQUAKE
•
The Receptionist and/or Office Manager will
attempt to make an announcement over the loud
speakers on pertinent, immediate instructions.
•
Go to small interior rooms without glass or
windows. Refer to your office evacuation map.
•
Do not leave the building.
•
Take cover under a desk or other furniture until
shaking stops to avoid fallen debris.
•
Remain calm.
•
Once shaking stops, fire wardens will make a
round to check on conditions and wellbeing of our
employees.
