DYNAFLASH NEWSLETTER OF THE IOWA HAWKEYE CHAPTER BCA Page 1 NEWSLETTER OF THE HAWKEYE CHAPTER BUICK CLUB OF AMERICA Issue 1 2011 Jan-Feb, 2011 Director’s Message: Greetings All, Well, Ole man winter stepped up his game this year on us here in Iowa. Brrrrr . I am really looking forward to the days of spring when the snow is gone and the Buicks are able to get back on the road and stretch their legs after that long winter’s nap. With the coming spring time in mind, I have been turning thoughts to checking batteries, rebuilding carbs and doing finishing touches so the cars are in top condition when the day comes that the streets are finally clear of snow and salt. A little optimistic, oh yea, but I am tired of winter and looking forward to some great group activities with this Hawkeye Chapter. Let’s start celebrating Spring time by having a group dinner at the OX YOKE INN, in Amana, IA on March 20th at 2:00 pm. The first attempt was of course cancelled due to snow and more snow. When you look at your calendars, you will notice this date is the official first day of spring. What better way to kick off the season, than with Buicks and friends! The restaurant is located at 4420 220th Trail in Amana, IA phone number (800) 233-3441. Please email me with confirmation of reservations marklob@gmail.com HEARTLAND REGIONALS AUGUST 18TH - 20TH 2011 I am sure everyone knows by now that the Rock Valley Chapter is hosting the Heartland Regionals in Reedsburg, WI this summer. I have been informed that the host hotel is filling up quickly ( continued next page ) Create PDF files without this message by purchasing novaPDF printer (http://www.novapdf.com) DYNAFLASH NEWSLETTER OF THE IOWA HAWKEYE CHAPTER BCA Page 2 Here is the information for reservations VOYAGER INN AND CONFERENCE CENTER 200 VIKING DR REEDSBURG, WI 53959 800-444-4493 608-524-6431 608-524-0036 FAX LINE IF YOU HAVENT MADE RESERVATIONS, YOU WILL WANT TO DO SO AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Think Spring!!! Hope to see all of you at the Ox Yoke. Mark Lob As you all huddle by the warm fires in your well insulated Iowa homes think of the poor people in Port Aransas, Texas. On February 5, 2011 it was colder there than in Anchorage, Alaska, and your poor editor was there. After reaching a temperature of 27 degrees F all pipes froze and there was not a space heater or piece of PVC pipe in any store in Texas. This caused Texas government to implement a rolling black out to save electricity. Without warning everything went black. Move to some place warm. Good idea, but it was raining, causing icy roads, which, since they do not have sanding equipment they close all highways. It is now a week later and a new hard freeze front has arrived. Stay warm and dry. Got the itch to do some parts picking? Pack your bags and head for Dan’s Auto Salvage in Kingman, Arizona. Dan’s yard is reported to have a nice selection of ‘60s and ‘70s Buicks. The 1955 hard top pictured looks very complete and being Arizona, it is not likely you will find a lot of rust. The complete article on Dan’s operation will be found in the January 20, 2011 issue of Old Cars Weekly. For those of us who have run out of garage space but still want to add to our Buck collection, England’s Brooklin Models have produced a nice line of Buick models. Here their latest addition.
