Colleen Adkins was recognized at the 2016 Kentucky 4-H Volunteer Forum. She has served as a certified 4-H Volunteer since 2005. Colleen
is dedicated to educating 4-H Youth and their parents on the fundamentals of livestock and livestock ownership. As a long term member
of the livestock community, Colleen is now sharing livestock projects
with her grandchildren and the children of some of her former 4-H
members. She works cooperatively with others to encourage youth to
save their livestock funds for college education.

to show off their knowledge of the dairy
industry by answering questions on a
wide variety of dairy topics. Registration
deadline is March 4, 2016. Contact

serving as a certified livestock volunteer.
Registration Fee: $199.00 per person
Fee includes: meals, breaks, meeting facilities, materials,
curriculum manuals, user fees and surcharge.

Rates similar to last year, around $70 per room
Single or double occupancy.
Workshops begin not later than 3:00 pm on Friday
and end not later than 5:00 pm

4-H RECORD BOOKS

All record books must be logged in by a secretary, agent or record book committee
volunteer before 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 1, 2016. Record books will be accepted
at the main office and the annex. As always, record books will be accepted during
office hours in the weeks prior to the deadline.
Reminder: the stories must be the child’s original work. Record books are
available on the web site at: www.kentoncountyextension.com. New this year:
each record book received by 5:00 p.m. on June 24, 2016 will earn a ticket for the
early bird record book raffle prize.
4-H RECOGNITION POINTS LOG SYSTEM

The Kenton County 4-H Recognition Points Log is a system for each 4-H’er to record everything they’ve done
throughout the program year. A designated number of points is awarded for a variety of activities. These logs are
used to determine the outstanding boy and girl award that is presented each year at the 4-H Recognition Banquet.
They are also helpful when applying for 4-H Achievement Forms. The 4-H Recognition Points Logs are available at
the Extension Office in the foyer next to the record books.
Recognition Points Logs for the 2015-2016 year will cover from September 1, 2015, through August 31, 2016. All
Recognition Points Logs are due to the Extension Office by 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2016.

The primary focus of this event will be Livestock
Showmanship and Nutrition. Don’t miss this
opportunity to have a competitive edge before the
2016 show season begins.
All activities will be held at the Derrickson Agriculture
Complex and Morehead State University Farm. No
meals provided on Friday but breakfast and lunch on
Saturday will be provided. Lodging for this event will
be at the Comfort Inn Morehead for a special rate of
$65.00 plus tax per night. For more information and to

June 1, 2016, all beef animals must be registered in the exhibitors name by June 1, per breed association
requirements.

IFAL Institute for
Agricultural Leaders 2016
• June 12-16, 2016; Murray State University, Murray
• June 19-23, 2016; University of Kentucky, Lexington
High school students, completing their junior year in
2016 and who are among the top, well-rounded
students in their class are eligible to attend IFAL.
Emphasis will be placed on developing an
understanding of the nature and needs of the
agricultural industry, including career opportunities
and the need for continuing one’s education, as
well as leadership, social, communication and
motivation skills.

The 4-H Fashion Revue will be

on Thursday, May 26, 2016, as

part of the tenth 4-H Spring
Showcase. This evening will
showcase the talents of many of

modeled by our 4-H sewing

youth, dessert will be baked and
decorated by 4-H cake decorating project group members, teen
4-H’ers will serve as the planning committee,
4-H’ers will serve as wait staff. The $13 per
person fee includes dinner. Please call the
extension office if you would like to be added to
the invitation list.

4-H Advanced Sewing
For Ages 10-18

Jr. Unit II or above and Senior 4-H’ers (ages
14-18).
Participants will create a sewing
project for the Fashion Revue and fair. A letter
with details will be mailed to eligible sewers. Be
sure to register at kentoncountyextension.org.
(You will need to bring a sack lunch and drink.)
