Draganfly Innovations announces NEW Products and Services for 2013
Exciting new products and
capabilities take Draganfly
to a new level of innovation.
We talk quite a bit about innovation and
you see it in our products but what you don’t
get a chance to see is the excitement around
the office as people think outside the box.
We encourage our staff to experiment with
new innovative ways to get things done and
some things work, and some don’t but that’s
both the risk and the benefit.
Product innovation is visible and it’s
something you immediately grasp but as we
streamline our ordering process or think of
new ways to deal with your phone calls, your
orders, or how to better serve you... it’s those

Plan (DPP):

subtle things that are just as important so at
Draganfly we’re always innovating.
As part of that innovation we’re excited
to be introducing the new Draganflyer X4-ES
Ultra Portable system. The new Pat Pending
system features wide stance folding landing
gear that has several benefits. The new gear
is lighter, the wide stance minimizes tip-overs
and because it folds, we have been able to
dramatically reduce the transport case size.
Also new, we have eliminated the “O”
rings used to secure the props and payload.
The new props are “keyed” and using a new
Pat Pending 1/4 turn locking system, the
props are easily installed or removed for
packing and even better, the new props
improve performance flying in stronger
winds.
If you are currently flying an older X6,
X4-P or X4-ES system no worries. A series
of upgrade packages or bundle packs with
illustrated instructions will be made available
so you can take advantage of new features
and components.

New for 2013 is the Draganfly Protection Plan (DPP). The standard warranty on our helicopter
systems is 60 days from delivery. The DPP provides a means to extend your protection and
help preserve your investment. If you would like more information please contact us now. Very
briefly the DPP covers repair labor, labor and parts for mandatory safety related upgrades,
controller and video hardware, battery charger, software and firmware updates, telephone
support, exclusive on-line help and continued on-line training. Give us a phone call, on-line
chat, or send us an e-mail for the DPP support overview to learn more and get a quote.
GCS version V3:
GCS Stare-Point feature. Just
one of the many personalities
of the POI concept
New exciting GCS
features at-a-glance
1. Points of Interest (POI)
POI are set based on where the
helicopter is positioned and what you
see through the digital video downlink.
2. Stare-Point
Stare-Point sets a POI on the ground
and when enabled, the helicopter will
will be flown in an orbit around the
target. If the target position needs to
be altered it can be “nudged” using
the GCS controls.
3. Improved digital video down-link
Improvements have been made to the
underlying processing of video
onboard the GCS to reduce CPU
overhead, reduce latency and
accommodate video recording.
4. Improved software updates
Updating software on the GCS is
easier than ever before. Simply get
the GCS connected to the Internet
and under the controller TAB select
update and follow instructions from
there. Very straight forward and
simple.
5. Improved Database
The database is a powerful feature of
the GCS. You can quickly review a
flight, name a mission and bundle/
export a complete mission including a
GoogleEarth KMZ with photos.
Points of Interest (POI) and Stare-Point VBS
The following is a quick overview of the new GCS Vision Based System (VBS) with Points
of Interest (POI) and Stare-Point features.
A POI can be a position in 3D space or it can be a point on the ground, for example; you’re
flying over a crime scene and taking aerial photos from three spots around the scene. As you fly
into position and start taking photos you set POI#1, fly to the next spot and set POI#2, move to
another position and set POI#3. As you’re taking photos it’s time to return and change batteries
so you “save” your mission.
You land the aircraft, power-down and swap batteries. Before take-off you “load” the
saved mission. To double check the correct mission is loaded you can “view” the mission with
GCS mapping. You confirm the mission, take-off, and as you start flying towards the general
area of POI#1 you “select” and “enable” POI#1 and the helicopter flies to the exact position and
altitude. And the same is true for the other positions so that now with POI, and the ability to
save a mission, you can repeatedly fly to the exact same spots to resume your photography.
When using stare-point, lets assume you’re documenting a serious car accident. You fly
the helicopter up to get a good vantage point; you place the helicopter in a GPS position hold
and yaw/tilt the camera to center the accident within the target cross hairs. When you do this,
the system estimates the target LAT/LONG and when “set” as a stare-point, helicopter behavior
is a little different. In stare-point mode when you “roll” the helicopter left of right, you will “orbit”
around the target point. The helicopter will automatically “yaw” to keep the image centered. If
you pitch forward or back, you are changing the “radius” of the circle around the target and
also automatically changing the camera “tilt angle” to keep the object centered.
If the target isn’t lined up exactly where you want it, you can “nudge” the stare-point along
the ground in the X and Y coordinates.
Carbon Fiber Gyro Stabilized Camera Mount
It’s just beautiful and yes, if you would like to get this mount for your X4-P or X4-ES
helicopter we have an upgrade kit for you. You can get the gimbal configured with the SONY
NEX5R, RX100 or a dual payload with remote video switching between the SONY RX100 and
the FLIR thermal imaging camera system.
The mount is light weight, includes the new mounting system to eliminate payload “O”
rings and it includes the digital video downlink system. Even better, it “hides” the vast majority
of electronics and wires from view. The mount provides gyro stabilization in both the pitch and
roll axis along with camera vibration isolation.

upgrades for the full line of helicopters.

Digital Video Downlink
Whether you’re flying the new handheld
Ground Control System (GCS) or the
traditional handheld controller (HHC) you can
benefit from the new range of digital video
downlink options available. X6, X4-P and X4ES systems can fly the new digital downlink
series of payloads that provide greater range
and static free video. And because the video
is digital, when used with a digital base
station repeater, other networked devices
can also view downlink video. Illustrated
The new prop upgrade kits are available
for the X6, X4-P and the X4-ES systems.
Each upgrade
kit includes
detailed
instructions,
new helicopter
tuning and two
spare props.

more about the pricing and technical details
of the upgrade kit.
Clear Body Sets
above is the new digital downlink display
attached to the HHC. Contact us now for
more information on new payloads to answer
any questions you have and discuss the
benefits of digital video downlink.
New Prop Design
The new prop design has many benefits
from improved wind performance, to reduced
vibration and most importantly, the new 1/4
turn PAT Pending quick mount system
eliminates the need for “O” rings. “O” rings
were the one and only real maintenance item
on the aircraft and now that they are no
longer needed, you have essentially a
maintenance free helicopter system.
Want a different look or would you like
to customize your helicopter? We can
provide custom
paint schemes or
you can do it
yourself by
purchasing clear
body sets.
Understand it
takes some skill,
the use of special
flexible paint, and all the work is done
“inside” the body parts but the results can be
spectacular. Contact us to learn about
custom body sets or what it takes to do-ityourself.
Thank you
And before wrapping up the newsletter
we would like to thank you for your business.
We have been building flying machines since
1998 and through continued innovation we’re
always striving to develop a better product
and improved services for our customers
worldwide so please, let us know how we’re
doing and most of all keep flying...
SONY RX100
It’s just an amazing
camera:
New for 2013 is support for the SONY
RX100 and we’re very excited with the
quality of imagery being delivered by
this light weight but powerful camera.
The camera features a 1” sensor
capturing images at 20MP with a Carl
Zeiss remote controlled zoom lens.
This camera is available for the X6,
X4-P and X4-ES systems and yes, it
takes some intervention on our part to
add the external cabling and
connections, but it’s worth the extra
effort. Here’s just one example at full
zoom with more photos featured on
the Draganfly WEBsite.
