There is a lot of great golfing weather left and do not forget to stop by the swimming pool. Many of you will remember Dan Venezio growing up at Pinehaven. He is the son of Jim and Carol Venezio and he has qualified for the upcoming PGA Championship at Whistling Straits starting August 13. Dan, your Pinehaven family will be rooting for you! We would like to thank all of the members who came out to listen to Tom, Dick and Harry on the patio this past Thursday. Unfortunately the caterer was not prepared for the large turnout and the service was not what we should expect. One of the problems was that we had 62 reservations and more than 100 members and guests came out for the entertainment and restaurant week. This being said, I will promise you that the board will work very closely with the caterer and their staff to help improve daily operation’s of the restaurant and to ensure that this does not happen again. Overall we believe that we have seen an improvement in the quality of the food and service from the previous caterer. It is important that we, Pinehaven Country Club Inc., are successful with membership retention and recruitment. A healthy and vibrant membership will fund a functional budget which will make it possible to maintain and improve our facility and course. This directly enhances your club experience. Our current members are very important and valuable. We want you to rejoin for the 2016 season and we need your help with membership recruitment. On page 7 you will find information about our fall membership promotion. Please tell your friends and colleagues to consider Pinehaven for their golfing home. Please help me get in touch with them so I can answer their questions and inform them of our membership options. Sincerely, Scott Warren T HE C HA T T E R B O X President’s Message continued from Page 1 As we move through summer, the board is starting to prepare our 2016 budget. As most of you know the board suspended the payment of an initiation fee of $3,000 several years ago in an effort to attract more members. The board also adopted a policy that only members who paid an initiation fee are eligible for the senior discount. Members are eligible for a senior discount who have at least 20 consecutive years of membership and have obtained age 65. If you joined after December 31, 2006 you must reach the age of 72 to be eligible for a senior discount. If you believe that you may continue your membership until you become eligible for this generous senior discount you should consider paying the initiation fee prior to obtaining age 45 or 52. Congratulations to our senior club champions Nan Lanahan and Bill Toomey. Several of our current board members have indicated to me that they will not be seeking re-election to the board this October. All stockholders are eligible to serve on the board. If you are a stockholder, please consider running for the board. I have found serving on the board very enlightening and rewarding. The Annual Stockholder’s Meeting is scheduled for October 18, 2015. Any stockholder wishing to run for the Board of Directors should contact Scott Warren at 456-7111 ext. 112 no later than September 13. Sincerely, Mike Van Buren President PAGE 3 T HE C HA T T E R B O X HOUSE COMMITTEE REPORT As we begin the 5th month of the golf season with Michael’s we continue to experience the ups and downs typical of a new caterer. We have seen a marked improvement in overall food quality, but we continue to struggle with service consistency. Case in point: if you were at the club for Thursday evening’s special event enjoying the music of Tom, Dick, and Harry, we had many problems, for several different reasons, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you may have experienced. It was NOT a well-scheduled evening and for that we take full responsibility. We will work very hard to make sure nothing like that happens again and you can help as well. On the day before the patio party there were 34 reservations. By Thursday afternoon we had 62, just a few short hours before the event was to start. Then another 40 people arrived without a reservation. No excuses are being made here, but not knowing how many people to prepare for makes it a nightmare for ANY restaurant to seat and serve all customers in a timely manner. When it is requested, PLEASE make a reservation for such events. Be assured the house committee is working very hard with Rick in addressing the ongoing issues and we thank you for your continued patience. On a brighter note, kudos to Rick and the entire staff for their performance during the Ladies’ Guest-Day and the Men’s 3-Day Member-Guest tournaments, 2 of our bigger showcase events. The food was outstanding and the staff was very attentive to everyone in attendance. A well-deserved thank you goes out to all who worked those tournaments. We have received several complaints regarding some members’ use of inappropriate language in the bar and dining areas. We know of more than one instance when customers have walked out or had to relocate their seats. Please be mindful that everyone is entitled to a pleasant experience when dining at the club, void of foul language (especially if children are present). We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. We hope you have had a chance to see the new menu. This is a testament to Rick and Juanita and their willingness to make changes based on member suggestions we have received through the first 4 months of the golf season. If you have any ideas for menu items you would like considered for next year please contact any member of the house committee. If you have a service problem, please refrain from admonishing the wait staff. Ideally, we want Pinehaven to be a place where everyone enjoys working. We are not above the wait staff, and they deserve our respect. Please contact Rick or Juanita, or one of the house committee members if you have an issue with a server. No useful purpose is served by having a confrontation with a college student working part-time, or any other staff member with hopes of embarrassing them. Please review and adhere to the code of conduct policy located in the handbook; any form of harassment is intolerable and will be addressed by the Board of Directors if necessary. As always, if you have any comments or concerns, please contact us at pcchouse@nycap.rr.com.
