The Chatterbox - Pinehaven Country Club
Pi nehaven Country Club The Chatterbox JULY 2015 Useful Information: Happy Hour at Pinehaven is Tuesday Thru Friday 2 for 1 drink special on beer and house wine President’s Message Summer is finally here! The swimming pool is now open after a slight delay due to some unexpected tile work that prevented us from filling the pool in a timely manner. For the first week or two of the season you will notice some extra traffic at the pool. We have offered the use of our pool to the Town of Guilderland on weekday mornings until they are able to open the pool at Tawasentha Park. The town is reimbursing us for additional expenses. The Swimming Pool is open daily thru Labor Day. Opening at 11am on weekends and noon on weekdays Our members are our best recruiters, tell your friends about Pinehaven! Make sure to point out that we have: No Initiation Fee No Assessments No Hidden Fees No Sales Tax on Dues For our new members, the pool is a wonderful spot to cool off after a round of golf or to spend a quiet afternoon. Picnic tables are available to those who wish to bring their own food and beverages. You can also call the clubhouse to have food delivered. If you know of anyone who might be interested in a pool membership, they are available for the summer at a very reasonable price. Things to do in July: July 3-Drive in Movie Night July 10 Prime Rib Night July 17 “Bourbon Street Boil” July 23 Music w/”Tom, Dick & Harry” on the Patio July 31 Associate Members Golf & Social On a very sad note, the Pinehaven family has lost three of our members the past several months. Jim Kingsley passed after a long illness, Alan McCartney was taken from us just prior to the golf season, and Rodger White was stricken on the golf course in early May. Rodger had just won the closest to the pin contest on hole number 9. Our deepest condolences to their families and friends. They will be dearly missed. Don’t Forget: July 14 Senior Guest Day President’s Message continued on Page 2 Inside this Issue: Comments from the Club Manager July Golf & Social 4 Pool News 5 “The Audrey” 9 Ladies Member Guest 6 Senior Guest Day 7 Golf Shop News 10 Three months ago, Mike Jewell departed as your Club Manager and I stepped into a new role at Pinehaven Country Club. I want to thank you all for your encouragement and support in my new position. All of you, the members and employees of Pinehaven Country Club, have a huge impact on my life. The opportunity to work with and serve you is an honor. I truly believe that Pinehaven Country Club has a bright future. In order for that to happen we all need to work together and focus on our clubs positive attributes and how we can utilize them. I also believe that all of us should strive to be better at what we do. If you feel that there is something I can improve upon in my role as Club Manager, do not hesitate to stop by my office, call or send me an email. I appreciate your honesty and your intent to help improve Pinehaven Country Club. continued on Page 3 T HE C HA T T E R B O X President’s Message continued from Page 1 Many members are starting to take advantage of our $50 guest fee and cart special for guests on Wednesdays. This is a great way to entertain friends and business associates and introduce golfers to Pinehaven. Please contact Scott Warren or the pro shop if you are interested in hosting a group of friends or co-workers. Just a reminder that Pinehaven has adopted a very progressive junior membership program that allows members to add up to four children to their membership at a very nominal fee depending on the age of the child. These “junior” members may or may not be members of your immediate family. If you have any questions regarding this program, please contact the pro shop or Scott Warren. Rob Bigley and his staff continue to do a tremendous job of maintaining our golf course even though we have been forced to reduce the greens budget by several percentage points the past few years. Please remember to replace your divots or fill them with sand. Please do not fill the divot with sand and then place the divot over the sand as they will not grow. Enjoy the summer. Sincerely, Mike Van Buren President HOUSE COMMITTEE REPORT We would like to thank all that dined with us on Father’s day; the attendees enjoyed a succulent prime rib dinner. Please join us on July 10th for our next prime rib night, also Michael’s at Pinehaven will be participating in Guilderland’s Restaurant week from July 19th through July 25th, details for both events to follow. As we swing into summer and hopefully busy times, it would greatly help the restaurant if dinner reservations are made in advance, especially when a large party is involved. This will enable Rick and his staff to serve you in a timely manner. Our snack shack is now open daily; the shack provides an array of snacks, sandwiches and drinks. To avoid any inadvertent mistakes on your bill, please make sure you review it for accuracy and sign it prior to leaving. Should you have an issue or suggestion with any part of the restaurant, Rick, Juanita, and the entire staff would like to hear from you in a timely manner. Please feel free to also forward suggestions or comments to pcchouse@nycap.rr.com, the house chairs review these daily and will provide you a response. Ron Cellupica & Frank Toma House Committee Co-Chairs PAGE 3 T HE C HA T T E R B O X From the Caterer The Guilderland Chamber of Commerce presents our 9th Annual Guilderland Restaurant Week 2015 The Guilderland Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that it will host its 9th Annual Guilderland Restaurant Week from July 19th – July 25th. The event is open to all interested restaurants, cafes, bistros and establishments. For a fixed price, restaurants offer patrons a three-course meal that would otherwise be more expensive. The week provides restaurants with increased dining traffic and a wonderful chance to highlight the spectacles of their eatery for hungry Capital Region residents. GCC has set the Restaurant Week price at $20.15. Tax, gratuity and alcoholic beverages not included The GCC gives restaurants the luxury of creating their own restaurant week menu. The options are endless. Restaurants can choose to offer a different three-course meal each night of the week; the restaurant can offer a variety of options each night; or restaurants can have the same options every night. The GCC encourages restaurants to get creative with their menus. After all, this is a great way to captivate potential customers! We also encourage restaurants to offer more than one choice. In the past, the restaurants that have done well had at least three different meal options. Comments from the Club Manager continued from page 1 The next two months feature many of our Championships, Member Guests and Social Events. I encourage all of you to participate in these. I sincerely hope that you have an enjoyable experience. The staff will work diligently to make these events successful. The most important key to our long term success as a Club is membership retention and membership recruitment. If you have any family, friends, or colleagues that are interested in joining Pinehaven please let me know and I will be happy to meet with them and explain our membership options. After Labor Day, we will launch our fall membership campaign that will provide incentives for new members to join early for 2016 and current members to upgrade their membership categories. I look forward to an exciting and eventful summer and a successful season! -Scott Warren T HE C HA T T E R B O X PAGE 4 July Social Events Friday July 3rd– Drive In Movie Night Join us at 8:15 pm select your parking spot by the pool Showtime is 9:00pm Movie Feature: “Despicable Me” Friday July 17th– July Golf & Social “Bourbon Street Boil” Format for Golf: Team Scramble Activities begin at 5:30 pm with a modified shotgun start Bourbon Street Boil includes: Peal and Eat Shrimp, Cajun Crawfish, Potatoes and Corn on the Cob in a spicy New Orleans Broth.
