Palm Sunday Sunday, March 20, 2016 † Adult Choir: “Entrance into Jerusalem” † Invocation † Children’s Message † Hymn: “Hosanna, Loud Hosanna” † Responsive Reading (Psalm 118:1-2,19-26) LSB 443 P: O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his steadfast love endures forever! C: Let Israel say, "His steadfast love endures forever." P: Open for me the gates of righteousness; C: I will enter and give thanks to the LORD. P: This is the gate of the LORD through which the righteous may enter. C: I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation. P: The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; C: the LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes. P: This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. C: O LORD, save us; P: O LORD, grant us success. ALL: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD. † Collect P: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. P: Almighty and everlasting God, You sent Your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, to take upon Himself our flesh and to suffer death upon the cross. Mercifully grant that we may follow the example of His great humility and patience and be made partakers of His resurrection; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen. † Old Testament Reading Zechariah 9:9-12 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. 10 I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the war horse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off, and he shall speak peace to the nations; his rule shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth. 11 As for you also, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit. 12 Return to your stronghold, O prisoners of hope; today I declare that I will restore to you double. P: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. † Hymn: “All Glory, Laud, and Honor” (vv. 1-2) LSB 442 2 † Epistle Reading Philippians 2:6-11 [Jesus Christ], though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. P: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. † Hymn: “All Glory, Laud, and Honor” (vv. 3-4) LSB 442 † Gospel Reading John 12:12-26 P: The Holy Gospel according the St. John, the 12th chapter. C: Glory to You, O Lord. 12 The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. 13So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” 14And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, 15“Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt!” 16His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him. 17The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. 18 The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign. 19So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, the world has gone after him.” 20Now among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks. 21So these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” 22Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. 23And Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. 25Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him. P: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to You, O Christ. † Hymn Response: “All Glory, Laud, and Honor” (v. 5) LSB 442 † Apostles’ Creed † Sermon Hymn: “O Gracious Lord…” (sung to 883) LSB 599 † Sermon: “Juxtaposition” † Children’s Choir: “Father, Bless Us” 3 † Confession and Absolution † Offering † Rite of Confirmation † Adult Choir: “My Savior” † Prayers † Benediction † Closing Hymn: “Ride On, Ride On in Majesty” † Announcements and Postlude LSB 151 LSB 441 Participants in this Morning’s Service Greeters: Organist: Choir Director: Children’s Choir Director: Acolyte: Elder of the Day: Ushers: Mahela Lueders and Dorothy Weinhold Sarah Benkendorf Sarah Benkendorf Tammy Petzoldt Megan Benkendorf Jeff Leible Terry Werner, Jesse Grebing, Jason Hecht, Dustin Lorenz Troy Petzoldt, Jenny France Audio/Visual Team: 4 Weekly Devotions (Palm Sunday/Holy Week) Hymn of the Week Catechism LSB 445 “When You Woke That K-2: The Significance of Baptizing with Thursday Morning” Water – Fourth -- “Where is this written?
