Rabén & Sjögren is Sweden’s largest publisher of
books for children and young adults, with a publication
exceeding two hundred new titles and two hundred
reprinted titles each year. We publish books by Swedish
as well as foreign authors and illustrators and since
2007 we have an extensive publication of non-books;
activity books, puzzles, games, etc. Since 2011 also
digital publication of e-books and apps.
The publishing house Rabén & Sjögren was founded in
January 1942, by Hans Rabén and Carl-Olof Sjögren.
They were both art historians, but well-versed in the
publishing world. Two years later, through a literature
contest, Astrid Lindgren was discovered and the
following year the first book about Pippi Longstocking
was published, which led to a long and successful
cooperation.
All of Astrid Lindgren’s books were published with
Rabén & Sjögren and she also worked as an editor
and was in charge of the children’s books department
between 1946 and 1970. During her time, Rabén &
Sjögren became Sweden’s leading children’s books
publisher, a position kept to this day. We are proud
to have many of Sweden’s well-known, award-winning
children’s books authors and illustrators on our list.

Rabén & Sjögren also has a considerable publication
of translated books, among others J.K. Rowling’s
books about Harry Potter, as well as Kitty Crowther,
Aidan Chambers, Roald Dahl, Meg Cabot and Michelle
Magorian.
Our 2012 publication is characterized by its interesting
and cutting-edge selection of books from both wellknow and brand new authors and illustrators as well
as backlist favourites.
Since 1998, Rabén & Sjögren has been a part of
Norstedts Publishing Group, which publishes fiction,
non-fiction and reference books. Norstedts was
founded in 1823 and is Sweden’s oldest still active
book publisher.
Hurray for 40 years
with Alfie!
In 2012 Alfie Atkins celebrates his 40th anniversary. During
four decades he has been the main character in twentyfive stories and has established himself in the forefront
of Swedish children’s culture. Today, Alfie Atkins is a
picture book classic, which year after year ends up at the
top of the lists of most borrowed books in our libraries. In
Sweden alone close to five million Alfie books have been
printed and the books have been translated into about
thirty languages.
In the fall of 2012, the twenty-sixth book about Alfie Atkins
will be published.
Alfie’s world contains the bustle of everyday living as well
as the grand philosophies and eternal questions. And in
the middle of the ordinary there is something magical.
Perhaps this is why everybody loves him. These days Alfie
Atkins transcends not only the generational boundaries
but also the boundaries between nations.
Gunilla Bergström
Skratta lagom! sa pappa Åberg
The Last To Laugh, said Alfie’s Dad
Alfie and Milla build a play structure. It is going to be like star
wars, but during the time of the old knights. They are in a
little bit of a hurry, everything has to be finished before the big
cousins comes. Then all four of them will play together! But
things don’t turn out like that, instead they all start arguing
– and Dad Atkins gets REALLY ANGRY! Now Alfie and Milla
are taken in to the study for a time-out with Dad, and strange,
scary sounds come from inside…
Once again Gunilla Bergström shows that she is a master of
portraying everyday events from a child’s point of view and
create “pearls of child psychology”.

Hokus pokus, Alfons Åberg!
Hocus Pocus, Alfie Atkins!
Is there really such a thing as magic?
Yes, Alfie believes there is, because he and Viktor have met a
magician who can conjure up both keys and money. But his
dad does not believe it. Real magicians don’t exist, he says.
But is that true? Or could there be magic that is more than just
trickery and hocus pocus?
Hocus Pocus, Alfie Atkins! is a chapter book with black-andwhite illustrations, which works well both for reading aloud and
for beginner readers to read on their own.

Lenis Olle
Leni’s Olle
No more baby games or honeybuns, Leni’s Olle is about
jealousy, about how difficult it is for three kids to play
together. It is going to be a really fun day. Leni is going
to play with Olle. Only the two of them all day, they are
going to laugh and have so much fun. But when Leni
arrives at Olle’s house, a pair of unknown shoes sits in
Olle’s hallway. Kiran, Olle’s neighbor, is there. Leni does
not want to play with Kiran, she only wants to play with
Olle.
The third book about Leni. Emma Adbåge writes and
illustrates with irresistible playfulness and charm!
“Yet another step in Emma Adbåge’s journey in becoming a contemporary Gunilla Bergström. As graphically
elegant, and just as messy and crumbly as everyday life
can be. There is crunching and hissing, there is resistance and mishaps, but it all ends with a smile.”

De svarta svanarnas natt
The Night of the Black Swans
Jonas’s dad inherits a dilapidated old house on Fårö Island and
decides to fix it up during the summer. Jonas and his big sister
Jenny unwillingly come along – how fun is that, Fårö Island?
But as soon as they step off the ferry mysterious things begin
to happen. Who is the old man in the solitary house? Is the attic
really haunted?
The Night of the Black Swans is a funny and sunny summer vacation story and a really scary ghost story all at the same time.
The contrast between the sunshine on the beach and the dark
in the attic makes the reader shiver, and it is easy to understand
the siblings’ panic and fear. The realistic characters make it all
feel very real, as though it could really happen…
Jesper Tillberg works in advertising and has directed and produced both TV- and radio documentaries.

messages that Tawni keeps receiving say. Who is texting
her? And who is she supposed to save? Tawni travels to
her grandparents in England. In the picturesque village Mye,

Potter movie. But the village hides a tragic history. Soon Tawni
understands that someone is trying to find her to give her an
assignment. She is the only one who can travel back in time
and prevent the catastrophe that happened eighty years ago!
Mikaela, or Micke as she is called, has moved to an old house
that sits by itself on the outskirt of a northern village. There is a
big spot on the wall in Micke’s room. It looks like the shadow
of a little girl and Micke finds herself talking to it. Suddenly her
ceiling light is turned on in the middle of the night. There are
crackling and shuffling noises everywhere. Could the girl who
lived here once really be haunting the house? Is she the shadow
the wall? Is she trying to tell Micke something? Micke finds one
thread after another and begins to unravel an incredibly sad
story that never really had a proper ending.

Gripping and easy to read about friendship, love and betrayal
Mårten Melin
Jag är Love
Everybode Loves Me!
And There Is Nothing I Can Do About It
Love Kristiansson is popular. Very popular. So popular that the
teachers fall in love with him and the girls in his class climb up
on his balcony at night. It is as if he has some kind of mysterious attraction. Finally, his parents decide that, to get away from
it all, he should move to another school. Love discovers rather
quickly that the new school is not for regular children. But that
is probably good because Love is not a regular child, and his
dad is definitely not a regular dad…
Mårten Melin is an expert in realistic stories with supernatural
elements.
It is credible and genuine, and at the same time gives a free rein
to the imagination.

Moonbird
It begins with a letter. The letter that Vendela writes one evening when she feels like she is the loneliest person in the world.
Everything is so unfair. Gabriel doesn’t care about her, Mom
doesn’t exist anymore and on top of it all, her best friend Minna
has moved to London. Vendela doesn’t really know why, but
she takes the letter down to the stream and shoves it between
two rocks by the water’s edge. Maybe somebody will find it
there. Somebody who also feels alone and needs a friend.
And it doesn’t take long before Vendela gets an answer. But
who replied? Is it Minna, joking with her? Or is it that strange
Cornelia who moved into the apartment below? Or is it somebody entirely different, somebody who does not belong in
Vendela’s world at all? Somebody from another time…

A realistic view of the world of fashion
Ida Pyk
Paris, chérie
Paris, chérie
The High School is dreary, the color of cement. Seventeenyear-old Alva is nobody special. She divides her existence between her mom in the city and her dad in the suburb. One day
something that just doesn’t happen happens: A woman on the
subway tells her she should be working as a model and gives
Alva her business card.
Fine tun
debut n ed
ovel
Then suddenly it is the summer of modeling in Paris and everything is in color. Paris color. Paris is thin crêpes with ice cream
and chocolate sprinkles on a dirty bench by the Seine. A song
by Serge Gainsbourg in her iPod. Paris is Olga, the redheaded
model who becomes Alva’s friend and who is both destructive
and full of life. And Sebastian with his blue, blue eyes. Complicated and difficult to catch, but he gives Alva butterflies all over.
The summer in Paris makes Alva feel stronger but also younger
and more naïve than ever before. Sensual language as light
as a feather which paints an entirely compelling “air de Paris.”
Realistic view of the world of fashion. The magical, as well as
the depressing superficiality.

Everthing I Say Is True
Everything I Say Is True is about the fall when Alicia should have
been attending her first year of high school. About how instead,
she starts working at a café. Starts fighting with her best friend.
Moves out of the house of her unsympathetic parents and in
with her much more sympathetic grandmother. About how she
meets Isak – the Greek God who has such fine lines around his
mouth that Alicia can’t stop staring at him. And about how it
feels when her entire world falls apart in sorrow.
