-We post the updated menu here and email it to our listserve.
-You peruse the menu and compile your order (codes, quantities & item names please). $50 minimum order please.
-Email us your order, delivery date and location (see above for options) or personal delivery address. Include a phone number we
can use to reach you on pickup day. Send complete information to gfgpALaCarte@swva.net before the order deadline below.
-We receive and pack your order.
-We email you a confirmation with your total, which includes sales tax, on the day before delivery by 5:00 pm.
-You can pay your confirmed total with a credit/debit card or PayPal account by clicking the "Pay Now" button at
goodfoodgoodpeople.net/a-la-carte. A 3% bank surcharge will automatically be added to all card transactions. It will show as "tax"
on your checkout screen. (Orders over $250 require a 50% card deposit the day before delivery).
-OR you may also pay when you pick up your order with check, cash or card (at select locations) or SNAP/EBT (at select locations).
-You pick up your order at your chosen location or prepare your drop site if you chose "personal delivery". If you fail to pick up, a
$10 re-delivery fee will be charged for our additional labor.
-You take your fresh local foods home, and know that your food dollars are circulating in the local agricultural economy!

What’s in a Word?
As purveyors of fresh produce and other products from local farms, GFGP strives to be clear and
informative about farm production methods to our customers. The following definitions are used for
marketing local products through GFGP.
ORGANIC/ CERTIFIED ORGANIC/ ORGANICALLY GROWN Under the federal National Organic Program (NOP)
law, the “O Word” or any form thereof may be only employed for farms that have been inspected by an approved
third-party agency (who is itself audited by the USDA). This rigorous certification process requires a detailed paper
trail to prove the farm’s claims of organic production. Growers maintain trace-back records of every crop from
Non-GMO seed through sale, including documentation of approved fertilizers and pesticides, crop rotation, tillage
programs, safe harvesting and packing routines. Certification costs exceed $1000.00 per year. GFGP reserves use
of ORGANIC, CERTIFIED ORGANIC AND ORGANICALLY GROWN for growers who have successfully completed a
bona fide certification program.
CERTIFIED NATURALLY-GROWN: This is a new peer-review system that some small growers are employing to
distinguish their products. Standards are very similar to Certified Organic, but the program is much less costly
financially and less demanding in terms of paper work. On-farm inspections are undertaken by other local farmers
in the program who understand its ideals and goals. Although this system is much more honor-based than USDA
certification, it is gaining popularity among local farmers as a cost-effective and community-based model of selfregulation.
BIOLOGICALLY-GROWN/BIO-GROWN: This is GFGP’s own in-house term and has no legal definition outside
our “trust certified,” face-to-face relationship with each grower. Given the extensive and expensive demands of the
USDA Organic Certification program, many small farmers are unable to cost-justify this marketing handle. After
years of considering other terms like “unsprayed” (organic folks do spray, just not synthetic pesticides), “chemical
free” (hard to imagine food without the chemicals that compose the food itself!), “natural” (what does that
mean??)—we’ve settled on BIO-GROWN to indicate “grown under certifiable practices, but not legally third-party
certified.” We feel confident that bio-grown products from trusted suppliers have not been exposed to synthetic
pesticides, herbicides or fungicides, and that growers use Non-GMOplants/seeds, as well as environmentallyfriendly tillage and soil building techinques.

CONVENTIONAL: This descriptor has replaced the old and inaccurate term “commercial” for crops that have been
subjected to practices or inputs that are not acceptable by organic consensus. Since a wide spectrum of practices
are lumped together under the category of “CONVENTIONAL” (ranging from “minimally-sprayed” through
“industrially-raised”) a further explanation may accompany this term. All conventional crops marketed through
GFGP will be accurately labeled to encourage transparency and promote consumer choice. No GMO crops are
allowed unders GFGP's definition of "Conventional" or any other category.
At every opportunity, GFGP strives to support organic and natural practices, resorting to conventional suppliers
only when absolutely necessary. Many crops are difficult or impossible to produce on a commercial (for sale) scale
in our region without sprays that hold back epidemic pests and diseases (i.e. tree fruits and sweet corn). Faced
with a choice of “conventional” product or NO product, GFGP believes that well-informed and well-fed customers
are happier than customers who need to shop at chain stores to fulfill their food needs with non-local products.
We at GFGP also believe that the best way to promote organic ethics is to work with local growers toward
realistic (vs. idealistic) goals that account for weather and market conditions, rather than to eschew them for their
current methods. We make our preferences clear to growers as we encourage them with better prices, information
and grower assistance toward lower-toxin substances as well as preventative practices that minimize the need for
sprays. Over the course of our 20-year existence, many GFGP suppliers have altered their practices to meet
our—and your—requests for cleaner food. Now that’s progress!!

and is the reason for our selling meat in the first place! How could we not, with such

Canned goods, granolas, fruit syrups and many other creative recipes flow from the
kitchen of John and Edith Chupp. The cottage looks out on a mountainside full of maple

Pasta & BBQ Sauce: Paul Hooper crafts his fine pasta sauces and Bar-B-Q
dressings from quality scratch ingredients, a testimony to his Italian heritage.

Honey: Glenn Clayton's honey is nothing short of famous in Virginia--deep flavored with
local wildflower pollen, created by healthy hives, and in an abundance that lasts

Blueberries, Honey: Patrick Co. counts the Hutchins’ patch among the oldest in the area.
Blueberries love a mountain soil and these berries sport a hearty flavor. Gorgeous

Baby Ginger and more: Randy Cohen is well-known in this region, having served
locovores for over 25 years at the Blacksburg Downtown Market. He has "retired" to a
small garden and continues sales at the Floyd Market, wowing customers with his glowing
baby ginger and many other quality veggies.

Apples and veggies: One of the region’s oldest farm families still plies the rocky soils of
Bent Mountain, producing high quality apples & succulent veggies kissed with mountain

Cherries, apples, tree fruits: “The largest cherry orchard in the South” lives at Frank
Levering’s house, with thousands of U-pickers venturing down his driveway, into the
mountain-side orchards seeking over 25 varieties of cherries! Frank tends other fruits, but
none quite so memorable as cherries.

Beef: Family-owned and operated farm for three generations, this dairy/beef operation is
a backbone of Floyd Co. agriculture. Beef is from lean Holsteins, grass-pastured their
entire lives, and supplemented with minimal grain inputs.

Veggies and Fruits: Menno Mast and family supply GFGP with an assortment of produce
throughout each season from their large home gardens--carrots, potatoes, onions, and

Tree Fruits: Chase McMillian's family culture one of the largest new cherry orchards in SW
Va, hidden at the escarpment foot in Carroll Co. Over ten varieties of cherries hail from
their farm, as well as nectarines, peaches and many varieties of apples--all top quality and

Apple Juice, Cider: Right here in Roanoke is one of the region's largest apple-juicing
facilities, operated by the Murray family for three generations. All local orchardists send
cider apples here, which is why the juice tastes so good!

Corn, Beef and Pork: Brian and Lynette Vest's succulent sweet corn is Non-GMO, inviting
worry-free indulgence! Their Black Angus cows and Tamworth pigs are pasture-raised, free
of added hormones or antibiotics, on lush Floyd Co pastures, then finished with a natural
plant-based protein feed which contains no animal bi-products or additives--"just enough"
finishing grain to enhance marbling for preferred taste and texture. Old Millstone dry ages
their prime beef for 21 days, adding a tenderness that can't be imitated by less patient
producers!

Coffee: Floyd’s own roaster, small town means big flavor in a socially- and

Veggies & berries: Noah and Barbara Renno cultivate intensive raised-bed veggies and
season extension greenhouse crops to provide a 10-month stream of bio-grown produce.
Their seven children stay busy helping with fresh asparagus and strawberries in the spring
to storage crops in the late fall--and all the season between.

Veggies, mushrooms, lamb: Nestled in a fertile valley along Floyd’s Little River, this
organic farm is all of five years old, but growing steadily under management of an
experienced staff. Woody and Jackie Crenshaw produce veggies, mushrooms,
lamb/mutton, wool and flowers on over 20 certified organic acres.

Veggies: The region’s oldest CSA, run by Polly Heiser, who makes surplus crops available
through GFGP. Ron Juftes also produces some mighty fine garlic varieties. Both Polly and
Ron’s operations are based on deep convictions and experienced practices in organic
agriculture.

Maple Syrup: Joseph Chupp taps maple trees on the steep side of the Walker Mountain
range above his home, boiling down some exquisite syrup that sweetens hearty

Shiitake Mushrooms: Growing is a passion at the Beegle household where Jon and Dana
tend hundreds of shiitake mushroom logs with the help of their five children. Healthy logs
pop out meaty shrooms during most of the year, an incomparable flavor that whispers in

Chestnuts: 90-year old Bert Wilson planted chestnut trees over 20 years ago when he
retired. Voila! Two decades later and 2500 tree later, Three Falls is covered up with
gorgeous and delicious nuts. Use in hundreds of varied recipes, from simple roasting to

Tree Fruit: This fourth generation farm family operates orchards from the mountains of
Floyd all the way down to Woolwine, purchasing and rehabilitating many old tracts. They
often rescue heirloom varieties from the bulldozer and making these treasures available to
GFGP.

Fresh Produce: For nearly 20 years, Richard Ursomarso has provided fresh veggies and
beef for a loyal CSA clienetele in the SWVA region. His specialty is fresh greens,
asparagus, strawberries and lots of root crops, all grown on 5 acres of certified organic
raised beds and greenhouses.
Weathertop Farm,

Eggs, Chicken: Weathertop Farm is a small family-owned and operated farm dedicated to
holistic sustainable animal husbandry, land stewardship, soil conservation, and
composting. No antibiotics or hormones are used, and all livestock graze pasture that is
free of pesticides, herbicides & synthetic fertilizers.

Turnips, pumpkins, winter squash: Darin Greear teams up with Dan Bran to put
together some prime farmland and cutting-edge farming expertise. Turnips from Windy
Hill are donated to charity and sold to eager root-a-vores. Deco-edible squashes and
pumpkins are this farm’s claim to fame.

Tomatoes, Strawberries, Veggies: Famed throughout VA for unequalled hydroponic
tomatoes, the Yoder family also excels at strawberries, heirloom tomatoes and a variety of
other timely and tasty crops that win America’s heart. Look for their quality fresh produce
