We are asking all residents to help us reduce the number of fires by following three simple steps below: 1: U se the FREE Bulky collection service 01254 388 111 2: Keep your bin secure within your property, only place it out on the morning of your collection and return it to your property as soon as possible after collection. 3: Report fly-tipping or build up of refuse 01254 388 111 By following these simple steps you can make a difference to your community and local environment. This will help to reduce the cost to the fire service, the council and ultimately your council tax. FACTS 1: Over the last 5 years 56% of all deliberate fires involved fly tipped furniture, loose refuse or wheelie bins. 2: 1700 deliberate fires affected dwellings and other private outdoor properties. The Hyndburn Used Furniture Store welcomes donated items of furniture and electrical goods in working order, particularly those in good condition so they can be reused by other members of the local community. GLASS BOTTLES & JARS How do I request a Bulky Household Waste Collection? TEXTILES HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES First check that your items are in the acceptable list eligible for a free collection. If they are, you can make a booking by any of the following methods:• Online using our online forms at www.hyndburnbc.gov.uk/recycling • E-mailing enquiries@hyndburnbc.gov.uk GARDEN WASTE HOUSEHOLD BULKY WASTE For more information on items we will collect and to book a collection Tel 01254 388 111 Additional recycling containers and calendars can be collected from the Council office’s on Willows Lane, Accrington. • Call our customer services on 01254 388 111 (Weekdays 9.00am to 5.00pm) Remember, the Council’s service is limited to a maximum of 6 acceptable items per booking per calendar month. Please note that for insurance reasons, crews are not permitted to remove items from inside the property itself. How can I dispose of waste from the nonacceptable item list? Please remember, there are hefty fines if your waste is fly-tipped. If the items you require removing are not eligible for the Council’s free collection service, you should consider the following alternatives:• Recycling Lives is an award-winning charity, operating a bulky waste collection service via its commercial arm (www.bulkywaste.org). They will collect most items on the non-acceptable list and re-use and recycle as much of it as possible. Please note there is a charge for this service. • Your Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment can now be recycled in store. Retailers now have a responsibility under the W.E.E.E. Regulations to allow customers to return items free of charge when purchasing a similar replacement item i.e new kettle for old kettle. • Take your waste to a household waste recycling centre Tel: 0845 0500957 or visit www. lancashire.gov.uk and type ‘household waste recycling centres’ in the search box. • Use a reputable waste removal company. You must ask for a duty of care note from the company. This is a legal document that will inform you which licensed waste disposal facility your waste will be taken to and confirms they are legally licensed to carry waste. Don’t pay a ‘man in a van’ without seeing this documentation!
