It's always the same. A fat new year rolls up like
some swaggering bagman. You reach deep into
your pocket for whatever you've got to offer—a
weigh-loss resolution or a vow to wake at 5 a.m.
for a run. (Ha! Yeah, right.)
Then the year departs with your promise and
nothing changes, and you stand there feeling
like a failure.
So really. Screw the New Year.
"I never make New Year's resolutions," says
Shaun T, 36, creator of the Insanity workout and
the latest Men's Health cover guy. This is
mainly, Shaun explains, because a year—the
365-day interval itself—has nothing to do with
the actual time your body needs to change or
your mind's ability to stay focused.
"You hear a New Year's resolution the first
week, and then you hear nothing about it ever
again," he says.
