Firearm Safety Rules
Failure to follow the first safety rule
“ALWAYS keep the firearm
pointed in a safe direction”
will result in an immediate expulsion from the
range and a permanent ban from club.

Other Safety Rules
 Eye and ear protection must be worn at all times!
 Leave all backpacks, purses, coats, and other items in the
downstairs classroom.
 You may only handle guns at your station!
 If you need help, put your gun
down first, then raise your hand!

Health and Hygiene Considerations
 Refrain from eating, drinking, or smoking on the
shooting range.
 Wash your hands and face when finished shooting.
 Do not wear sandals or low cut tops on the range.

Range Commands
If you hear:
“Range Hot” or “Commence Firing”
This means you…
…need to wear your eye and ear protection!
…can handle and load ammunition into your magazine
and load your magazine into your gun.
…may begin shooting.

Range Commands
If you hear:
“Range Cold” or “Cease Fire”
This means you…
…must stop shooting immediately!
…must put your gun down and step back from the firing line!
…do not need to wear your eye and ear protection.

Range Commands
Everyone can call “Range Cold” or “Cease Fire” if they
see something dangerous!
But only a Club Officer can call “Range Hot” or
“Commence Firing”!
Don’t know if the Range is Hot or Cold?
Then ASK a Club Officer! Err on the side of caution and
never assume!

facing the proper direction.

DO NOT force the magazine
in if it gets stuck! You might
break the gun!

 Stand feet shoulder width
apart, square to target.
 Weaver grip.
 Lock both arms with pistol
centered between
shoulders.

 Rear sight makes ‘U’
shape.
 Front sight should appear
in middle of notch in rear
sight; the top of each
should be level.

of the pistol sights at

 First, Place the firearm down,
facing downrange with the chamber
side up.
 Raise your hand. A Range Officer
will be standing by to assist you.
 Do not turn around with the
firearm. EVER.

Downrange
 If the pistol malfunctions or you need to rack the slide,
keep the pistol pointed downrange toward the target.
 Instead of rotating the pistol towards you, rotate your
body so that the pistol does not move.
