e would like to offer our
congratulations to the Colonel’s
Staff, the Unit Heads, and all of the
nobles of the units and clubs, as well
as their families and friends who
attended and participated in the
parade and activities during the recent
MASA Convention in Virginia Beach.
Chairman Ray Link and his Lady Fay
did an outstanding job in an effort to
make everything run as smoothly as
possible for everyone attending.
Also, we thank P.P. Ernie Carter his
Lady Peggy, and all of the other nobles
and ladies who worked to make the
combined hospitality room a success.
Thanks to the Blues Band for providing
the entertainment each night again
this year. The party after the parade
was a great success due to the efforts
of Chairman Link and all of those who
worked with him as a committee to
make it happen. Especially to C.R. Kurt
for providing and cooking the prime
rib—they were the hit of the day. It
was a team effort, and it proves if we all
work together good things can happen.
Thanks to Noble Richard Feeser and
all of those nobles, their families and
friends who worked so hard to help
make the Sportsman Day event the
success it was. Also, remember the buy
a brick program is still active, so call P.P.
Charles Johnston to make a purchase.
Membership is still the key, so
contact O.G. Ernie Palmer and
have him visit your lodge to make a
presentation about Boumi. Better yet,
we still have two more meetings this
year, so ask your friends and neighbors
to join and have their petitions turned
in to the Recorder’s Office a.s.a.p.
Lastly, by the time you receive this
issue, we will be getting into the holiday
season, and the hustle and bustle
connected with it will be here in a rush.
Consequently, we hope each noble and
his family enjoy the holiday however
they celebrate this time of the year.
Anita and I especially want to wish
every noble and the members of their
families a merry Christmas and a happy
and prosperous New Year. As has been
said in the past, Christmas is a beautiful
time of the year with its joys and hope,
peace and brotherhood. It is a joy that
never ends in the memories of good
times and the thoughts of good friends.
May the beauty of this Christmas be
an inspiration to you throughout the
New Year.

W
hat a way to start the end of
the year back up. We had a
great time in Virginia Beach for the
M.A.S.A. Convention. The trophies
were a little thin but everyone had a
good time; and the fact that no one
was hurt made it a great convention.
When we got back we had the
Sportsman’s Bash for the first time.
From the Chief Aide:
It went over well with money being
made for the operating budget.
The membership drive this year has
gone very well. As of October, we have
taken in 80 new members. Now that
they’re in the Shrine, it is up to the
units and clubs to get those members
active. We have formed two new
clubs this year—the Cigar Club and

On behalf of my wife Peggy and myself, thanks to all who donated
food and drinks for the hospitality room in Virginia Beach.
Thanks also to the many who helped with set up, cleaning, getting
food, beverages, ice, packing, and unpacking. Everyone seemed
to enjoy the arrangement. Once again, a heartfelt thank you to
everyone. We couldn’t have done it without your help and support.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS • THURSDAY NIGHT, DECEMBER 3, 2015 • 7:00 p.m.
The first seven officers of the Temple are
the Potentate, Chief Rabban, Assistant
Rabban, High Priest and Prophet,
Oriental Guide, Treasurer and Recorder.
352.2 (a) The first seven officers shall be
elected annually by ballot and constitute
the Official Divan.
4.4 Each Temple must elect its Officers
and Representatives at its annual meeting
in December.
4.5 Election of officers shall be by
separate written ballot and by a majority
vote of those present and voting. A blanket
ballot is prohibited.
4.6 Balloting must commence no later
than 9:00 P.M. and when that hour arrives
all other business must cease and none
may be transacted until the election is
concluded.
325.8Candidates for Officers and
Representatives must be placed in
nomination from the floor. Nominating
committees are prohibited.
325.10(a) When a Temple elects more
than one Representative, all candidates
must be balloted for on one written ballot.
(b) Each member voting must
vote only for the total number of
Representatives to be elected, otherwise
his ballot cannot be counted as a vote.
(c) A majority vote of those
present and voting is necessary to elect
each Representative.
(d) Only those candidates who
receive a majority vote shall be declared
elected.
(e) Successive written ballots must
then be taken in the same manner on
other candidates until all Representatives
are elected.
(f) If more candidates receive
a majority vote than the number of
Representatives to be elected, then those
receiving the greatest number of votes
shall be declared elected.
(g) Blank ballots are not votes.
325.11
(a)The printing, publication,
circulation or distribution of resolutions,
letters, telegrams, tickets or other devices,
by a Noble, suggesting recommending,
opposing or containing the names of
proposed candidates for office in the
Temple is prohibited.
(b) For any violation of (a), the
Imperial Potentate may suspend any
offending Noble, and he may declare the
election of the officers void and order a
new election.
(c) At least one week prior to the
annual meeting or any election the Temple
Recorder shall mail to each member a
notice thereof containing this section.
The Imperial Council Law requires that
you have your 2016 card in order that you
may attend this meeting.

Well, it has been some year—one in
which I never thought in a million
years I would ever be the Colonel
of the Units. For this I have to thank
Illustrious Sir William “Ray” Bosley
Jr. It had been some time since Boumi
had a full Colonel’s Staff, and I thank
those who were on the staff as it takes
time and dedication.
We started off the year with the
Installation, and would you know it,
Mother Nature did not give us the
best of weather. But on the whole, we
had about 300 nobles and ladies in
attendance.
The spring parade season did not
get off to a good start—Glen Burnie
and Catonsville both were cancelled
due to the weather. As I write this, we
still have four parades to take part in:
Columbus Day in Baltimore, Patuxent
River Appreciation Days on Solomons
Island, the Mayor’s Christmas Parade
and the White Marsh Holiday Parade.
I thank all the units for taking part in
these parades.
Fall M.A.S.A. is always a great event
to showcase the Shrine; and this year
was no different. The following units
brought home trophies: Shepherds
received first place in the parade;
Motor Corps took second place in the
parade and two second places in the
competition; Big Rigs came in second
place in the parade; and Camel Wheels
won two second place trophies in the
competition. Noble Harry Caughey
was elected third vice-president of
the M.A.S.B.A., and Robert Creech
was elected captain of the M.A.S.A.
Provost Guard.
As the colonel this year, I would
like to thank all the units and clubs
for the support that you extended
to the staff and myself. May you and
your family enjoy this time of the year
together and remember to keep the
men and women of our Armed Forces
in your thoughts and prayers. Happy
Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and
Happy New Year.

The first meeting of the Boumi Ladies
was held in September. It is so nice to be
meeting again. Let’s hope the weather is
good to us this year so we will not miss
any meetings like we did last year.
This year’s Annual Memorial Service
will be on Nov. 15. We have been
providing the refreshments for the
reception after the service for the last
two years and will be doing it again this
year. We bring baked goods and the
Temple provides the beverages. If you
would like to help, please bring your
baked goods before the service starts
so we can prepare for the reception.
The Memorial Service starts at 2 p.m.
so try to be there by 1:30. If you have
not been to the Memorial Service in
the past, you should try to be there—
you will be glad you did.

Ginny Triplett a speedy recovery. Our

Fall was certainly a busy time for the
Ladies Oriental Shrine. We began
September with a wonderful tour
of the Capitol building led by the
Assistant Raban’s Lady Kathy Hartz.
The history is incredible, the tile is
magnificent, and the cats’ paw prints
outside the old Supreme Court room
are a little unbelievable. Two dinners
have since followed—Friendship
Night and the October Halloween
dinner. Costumes were definitely the
order of the day including our very
own set of hospital staff.
The holiday season seems to be right
around the corner. Before you rush off
to prepare, the Ladies Oriental Shrine
have a few activities to help you reduce
the holiday stress. Gentlemen, please
bring your ladies to the November
Business Meeting. We have an activity
planned to help with that holiday
wrapping! But if you’re not ready to
wrap, we’ll be holding our first ever
Holiday Bazaar in December to help
you find the perfect gift. A little later,
we’ll have a wonderful dinner to save
you some time in the kitchen. We hope
to see you and reduce your holiday
stress.

means my year as president is over. I
missed some of the year and it seems
we must fix things that we misused or
have worn out over the years.
We had a good year overall. We
went to Charlestown with Bo, Toby’s
Dinner Theater and saw “1776.” We
also had a great time at a cookout at
Noble Skip and Lady Nadine Merkle’s
house.

Greetings to all Ambassadors,
Welcome back from the summer and all the activities
and crab feasts. Hope everyone stayed safe and well. I would
like to take this opportunity to thank all the Ambassadors
who participated in the Carnival, the Golf Classic, the Crab
Feast, and the Beer Brigade during the summer. It means a
lot to the chief ambassador to have the support of the board
members and active members.
Our Crab Feast in August was a complete sellout with
over 539 members, family, and friends in attendance. I was
astounded when I walked into the main ballroom and saw how
filled it was and everyone was eating crabs and all the other
wonderful food. I wish to extend many thanks to all of the
committee members. A special thank you goes to Bill Mezoff
for an outstanding job with the tickets, assigning the tables
with well over 100 hours poured into that, and everything that
goes with it. This made for a very profitable evening.
Our next meeting will be on Nov. 5. This is traditionally
known as “Eastern Shore Night on the Western Shore” or
basically at Boumi Temple. We usually have raw oysters,
along with other goodies, during the social time. We’re
pursuing a good speaker, which will be announced later
along with the complete menu.
On Nov. 7, Tall Cedars—Baltimore Forest No. 45 will be
holding its Annual Pancake Day in support of Muscular
Dystrophy from 8 a.m. to noon, and it’s only $5! Also, don’t
forget about the upcoming Stag Oyster Roast at Boumi
Shrine Center on Dec. 12 from noon to 4 p.m.
We will take part in two Christmas parties. The first will be
with the Potentate and the other units of Boumi Shrine. The
date and price have not been set. The Shrine will let you know
as soon as they can. The second is on Dec. 10 at the Knights of
Columbus Hall (Klosterman Avenue and Belair Road) from
6:30 to 10:30 p.m. It is combined with the Clowns, Hamilton
Shrine, the Yacht Club, Legion of Honor, and the Amateur
Radio Club. The cost is $39 per person. Let’s celebrate the
holiday season together. Make your checks payable to Boumi

It always causes me to pause and ask myself, does time really
move this fast? From the third degree we learned: “The

such a profound and accurate message.
So before the frost is upon us, I hope everyone had a safe
and enjoyable summer. And as we move rapidly through the
year we all now start thinking about the upcoming holidays.

another successful ladies night.

in June 1948, recently moved its monthly
dinner meetings to the Boulevard
Restaurant on Merritt Boulevard in
Dundalk. Yes, this is the same diner
featured on Food Network’s “Diners,
Drive-ins and Dives” with Guy Fieri.
Meetings are held the fourth Tuesday of
every month at 7 p.m. The meeting is
open to all nobles and their ladies. The

and, of course, the camaraderie make
for an enjoyable evening of fellowship

Atlantic Caterers. Some of our guests
said that it was one of the best banquet
meals they have had in all of their 40plus years of attending such functions.
Our hats off to Raoul Jr. and his staff
for doing such a wonderful job.
Also, thanks to those ladies who
joined us in September while the
nobles had their business meeting. We
always enjoy meeting the new ladies
and seeing some of our old friends as
well.

Auto and Cigar clubs was a great
success. Members of both clubs were
in attendance, and it was much more
than expected. The weather, food, and
camaraderie of all nobles, ladies and
friends made for a most delightful
afternoon. A very good dialogue
between both clubs continued as the
smoke from the barbecue and the
cigars filled the air. Many events and
activities were discussed and planned.
The Auto Club will be participating
in the upcoming parades to showcase
the beauty of our cars. If you wish to

Thanks to all who attended our summer
breakfasts. Thanks also to Past Potentate
“Skip” Merkle and Lady Nadine for their
willingness to hold the breakfasts at
their home. We had beautiful weather,
wonderful fellowship, and great food!
Our journey to Virginia Beach was
fun, and the combined hospitality
rooms were successful. Thank you,
Illustrious Ray Bosley and your
hard working crew, for the delicious
luncheon after the parade. The parade
went off without a raindrop and the
Color Guard marched with pride and
“matching uniforms.” Unfortunately,
the parade judges didn’t see our
matching uniforms and good form as
well as our parade route fans did. We’ll
get them next year, fellas!
Welcome to our newest marching
members Mike Wallace and Dennis
Leland. We hope that you enjoy the
Color Guard as much as we’ve enjoyed
having you be part of us! We will march
in the upcoming Solomons Island
and Mayor’s Christmas parades. Our
annual Christmas party will be Dec. 9.

In closing, I want to remember one
of our cherished Color Guard members,
Past Captain Stanley L. Curtain. Stan
valiantly battled cancer for over two
years, and just two months before Stan
passed away, he attended and worked
the bake table at our June Color Guard
breakfast. Stan was known for his
“booming” radio voice and his lyrics
written for the Blue Yo-Yo’s, a worldrenowned singing group. Shirley, your
Color Guard friends and family join you
in mourning the loss of Stan. We miss his
heartfelt and meaningful prayers and, of
course, his beautiful voice. The Color
Guard was honored to sing a farewell
Blue Yo-Yo’s song at Stan’s funeral and
stand honor guard at his gravesite. We
salute you, Captain Stan!

Ocean City Shrine Club
Greetings, this year is moving along
rapidly with only a couple months
left. Back in September, Virginia
Beach was a good time for us. Our
riders at the convention were Captain
Don Hurcombe, Lieutenant Bob
Candler, and nobles Don Warren,
Wayne Snyder, Jim Ringsaker, Frank
Mazzone, Mark Hartz, and Len Elliott.
Those nobles did very well, winning
second place in the drill competition,
third place in the two-wheel obstacle
course, third place in the slow box
competition; and second place in the
parade. Congratulations to them!
Also in September, our raffle for
the gun safe was drawn along with
Boumi’s very big, important raffle. I
can’t say how that turned out because
it hadn’t happened as of the writing of
this article. I
In October, the captain held a
cookout at his home and it should
have been a success. We did see a lot
of friends at Bonnie Blink the same
day before the Motor Corps party.
Also, the Solomons Island parade was
held in October and hopefully weather
was good.
Our new officers for 2016 have been
chosen, so all you members who were
afraid to come to a meeting because
you might be nominated can rest easy
now. If you would like to know who
they are you’ll have come to our next
meeting at the Harley Shop on Rte. 40
in October. We’re proud to say that the
owner, Noble Don Meyers, is a member
of our unit.
There is still a lot to do this year:
the White Marsh parade, followed by
Aberdeen the same day, and the big
Mayor’s parade. All of these depend
a lot on weather. We are planning
a Christmas party so we are asking
all of our members to come to our
meetings so they can meet those new
members who joined us this year. Also
a reminder: attend Boumi Business
Meetings please!!

Summer and the crowds have gone,
and the weather is changing. Fall is here
and winter is not far away. Some of our
members will be joining the southern
migration along with thousands of
other “snow birds.” Our club activities
continue, along with planning sessions
for the 2016 calendar.
Our 18th Annual Golf Tournament
was once again a success due to our
sponsors, golfers and the hard work
of our members. Thank you! The
Sweetheart Raffle was also a big hit. Lots
of sponsors and ticket sales brought
in a good amount of money for our
Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Nov. 24 is a regular meeting night.
We meet at Peaky’s Restaurant (atop the
Fenwick Inn) at 6 p.m. That evening will
be the election of officers for 2016. We
hope for a big turnout that night and
at all our meetings through the winter.

of the month, consider attending.

Bou-Tem-Sci
The 83rd annual Bou-Tem-Sci Luncheon
and Fashion Show, held in October, was
a great success. Our theme for the day
was “Taking Flight For Our Children.”
Everyone had a wonderful afternoon
shopping from the various tables and
participating in the raffles. The food
was delicious and the fellowship most
enjoyable. Our Bou-Tem-Sci models,
wearing the fall fashions from Boscov’s
of White Marsh, did a fantastic job and
looked very professional as they walked
the runway. Many thanks to our members
and their friends for supporting this
event so we can continue to provide
corrective shoes to children with special
needs and give to the Shriners Hospitals
for Children. A special thank you to
Sandi Phillips, chairperson, and her
President Linda D. Barnes
committee for the many hours they gave
to make the fashion show and luncheon
a splendid occasion.
During the summer, our ladies have
been like Santa’s elves filling Christmas
stockings for the Salvation Army, who
in turn gives our stockings to deserving
children. What a good feeling you have
knowing you will put a smile on a
child’s face.
Our next two meetings will be on Nov.
16 and Dec. 21 at Columbus Gardens.
We begin at 11 a.m. with a social hour
followed by a tasty luncheon, great
entertainment, and a short meeting.
The November entertainment will be
“The Roundhouse Ramblers,” singing
old familiar songs and some new songs.
I am sure there will be a sing-along.
For December, a special visitor will be
entertaining the ladies. Please join us
for the last meetings of the 2015 season.
I hope you and your family have a
lovely Thanksgiving Day and be truly
grateful for this great land with the
freedom to enjoy all the blessings given
to us.
As we prepare our hearts and homes
for Christmas, let us not forget the true
meaning—the birth of the Christ Child
in a humble stable. May your Christmas
be glorious with the spirit of Christmas,
which is peace, the gladness of
Christmas, which is hope, and the heart
of Christmas, which is love. The officers

The Commander’s trip to visit the battleship New Jersey in June
was absolutely great. The Commander drove and we took the selfguided tour, which turned out better than a guided one. We got to
see a lot more of the ship. The volunteers who are restoring the ship
were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I never realized there
were so many stairways and steps on a battleship. After our tour, the
Commander bought lunch for all. See what you missed.
Nominations for officers were accepted at our October meeting and
our election will occur at the November meeting. Dues notices for 2016
will be mailed in January. The dues will remain the same—there will be
no increase. If you are one of the few who haven’t yet paid your 2015 dues,
please do so now. Be sure to update your roster information. Thank you.
We continue to meet on the second Thursday of the month in our
unit room starting at 7:30 p.m. We have refreshments after every
meeting. Attend a meeting and enjoy the friendship of the great nobles
who are members of the Provost. This is truly an excellent unit. Hope

100 Million Dollar Club

I
hope you survived the hot summer and are now
preparing for the holidays. Each month I invite you to
join the 100 Million Dollar Club, I solicit your donations,
and I hope for the best. I believe every Shriner knows his
purpose—to support the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
This is extremely important during the holidays.
For the fortunate ones, the holidays are times for being
thankful and giving. At Thanksgiving we are thankful for
the abundant food we have at our Thanksgiving dinner and
for our freedom—freedom to worship as we please and
speak our peace.
The children in our hospitals are not so fortunate. They
depend on us—you, me, and other Shriners—to provide the
hospitals with the funds necessary to continue to deliver the
fine care for the burn survivors and disabled children, and
they are thankful.
I usually ask you to remember the children when
you go shopping for Christmas gifts for your family and
friends. I am not asking you to buy them a Christmas
gift, but remember that our children are depending on
your financial support to keep our hospitals viable. Your
donations to the 100 Million Dollar Club will help keep
our hospitals financially viable.
We want to thank everyone for their donations this
year. This has been a very successful year for the club and
hopefully next year will be the same.
I, along with our children, hope you and your family have
a very enjoyable and peaceful Thanksgiving, Christmas, and
New Year.
