Straight No Chaser: Live in New York
Tuesday, August 2, 9:30 p.m. The a cappella
phenomenon,
Straight No Chaser,
whose quirky version
of “The 12 Days of
Christmas” was a
YouTube sensation,
provides a captivating
and entertaining
evening for all. The 10 male vocalists marry impeccable
harmony with just the right amount of humor. This special,
which includes material from their EP Six Pack presents a mix
of classic hits from the 1950s and 1960s, the Motown era
and contemporary pop hits, all with the classic SNC twist.
Dinosaur Big City
Monday, August 22, 1 & 4:30 p.m.
Big dinosaurs, big musical numbers and big fun
are on the ticket when Dinosaur Train launches its
second season with the one-hour special Dinosaur
Big City. Buddy and the Pteranodon family begin
their journey on the Dinosaur Train, gathering all
their Theropod friends together to travel to a really
big Theropod Club Convention which is being held
in Laramidia, the “Dinosaur Big City!” Among the
travelers is King Cryolophosaurus, who’s more than
a little nervous about giving a concert in front of his
biggest audience
ever. Can Buddy
and Tiny help him
overcome his fear
of performing?

FRONTLINE: The Pot Republic
Thursday, August 18, 9 p.m.
FRONTLINE brings you a timely
report from the frontlines of
marijuana legalization in California.
The bulk of marijuana consumed
in the United States used to come
across the border from Mexico,
Canada and elsewhere. Now, more
than half of it is believed to be
home grown in California, where an
enormous black market has emerged under the cover of the state’s
medical marijuana law. With more than a third of all states now
experimenting with some form of legalization and decriminalization
- and several California counties attempting to openly regulate pot
production - FRONTLINE and The Center for Investigative Reporting
team up to investigate the country’s oldest, largest and most wideopen marijuana market. Is the federal government now moving to
shut it down?

Mondays, beginning August 22, 10:30 a.m.
In a renovated 1806 farmhouse, the cast
scientifically re-imagines family-friendly
recipes for the modern home cook. Test
cooks Bridget Landcaster and Julia
Collin Davison uncover blue-ribbon
regional specialties (Cornell barbecued
chicken, “Juicy Lucy” burgers and Texas
barbecued beef ribs), re-discover “lost
recipes (monkey bread and Shaker lemon
pie), and tackle classic American fare in
need of a makeover (glazed meatloaf,
chocolate cream cupcakes, angel food
cake and more). Jack Bishop challenges
host Christopher Kimball to live tastings
of kitchen staples like barbecue sauce, hot

Sunday, August 7, 9 p.m.
In the early 60s, clubs like the Village
Vanguard were scattered throughout
Greenwich Village. Now it stands alone,
the last of its kind. In September 2009,
a select group of fans and friends had
the rare opportunity to experience
the legendary Barbra Streisand’s
performance in the ultimate up-closeand-personal setting of this historic
club. Accompanied by piano, bass,
guitar and drums, this is the artist at
her most intimate.

Nature: American Eagle
16
Unique to North America, the bald eagle is the
continent’s most recognizable aerial predator, with
a shocking white head, electric yellow beak and
penetrating eyes. In the 1960s, this symbol of the United
States became an emblem of environmental degradation,
as the pesticide DDT and other human pressures brought
it to the brink of extinction. Following their protection as
an endangered species, bald eagles have come roaring
back. Photographed by three-time Emmy winning
cinematographer Neil Rettig, this first-ever HD hour on
bald eagles focuses on the drama of the nest. Even in
the best of times, it’s a surprisingly tough struggle to
maintain a one-ton home and raise chicks until they can
hunt on their own. This is an intimate portrait of these
majestic raptors’ lives in the wild.
