Masterpiece Classic: Mr. Selfridge (8-part miniseries) Monday, April 8, 8 p.m. NOVA: Meteor Strike Tuesday, April 9, 8 p.m. www.kbtc.org The 1962 World’s Fair: When Seattle Invented the Future Friday, April 12, 10 p.m. 1 NOVA: Meteor Strike Tuesday, April 9, 8 p.m. On the morning of February 15, 2013 a 7,000-ton asteroid crashed into our atmosphere, exploded and fell to Earth across a wide swath near the Ural Mountains. The Siberian meteor was captured by digital dashboard cameras, a common fixture in Russian vehicles. Within days, NOVA crews, along with impact scientists began the hunt for debris from the explosion and clues to the meteor’s origin and makeup. Is our solar system a deadly celestial shooting gallery – with Earth in the crosshairs? What are the chances that another, even more massive, asteroid is heading straight for us? Are we just years, months or days away from a total global reboot of civilization, or worse? Masterpiece Classic: Mr. Selfridge (8-part series) Monday, April 8, 8 p.m. Jeremy Piven (“Entourage”) stars as a wheelingdealing American who shows early 1900s Londoners how to shop. Based on the life of colorful retail magnate Harry Gordon Selfridge, the new eightpart series is created by Emmy Award-winning writer Andrew Davies (“Pride and Prejudice,” “Bleak House”). Also starring Frances O’Connor (“Madame Bovary”), Aisling Loftus (“Page Eight”), Zoe Tapper (“Zen”), Amanda Abbington (“Case Histories”), and Samuel West (“Any Human Heart”). Who knew shopping could be like this?! 2 www.kbtc.org KBTC/KCKA, licensed to Bates Technical College reaffirms its policy of equal opportunity and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability, or status as a disabled veteran or Vietnam era veteran in its programs and activities in accordance with college policy and applicable federal and state statutes and regulations. Extended to eight episodes, BBC One’s most successful new drama since ratings began sees the return of its well-loved characters as well as some new faces. Nonnatus House opens its doors to warmly welcome the audience back into 1950s East End London and continues to follow Poplar’s community of exceptional midwives and nursing nuns. The new series stays true to its roots – viewers can expect to see more births, babies and bicycling, plus blossoming romance from an unexpected quarter. The 1962 World’s Fair: When Seattle Invented the Future Friday, April 12, 10 p.m. The 1962 World’s Fair, a six-month celebration of science and technology, featured an exciting mix of culture, cuisine and celebrity, drawing more than 10 million visitors from around the world to the then relatively unknown mill town of Seattle. Through historical photographs and archival footage, THE 1962 SEATTLE WORLD’S FAIR brings to life the textures and sounds of Seattle in the late 1950s and early 60s. The city’s business, civic and cultural leaders, historians and longtime residents reminisce about the excitement and ambition the Fair ignited.
