Eco-Forward Performance
International Coatings Announces CentrisTM Next Generation Non-Phthalate Inks
International Coatings CompanyTM is proud to launch CENTRISTM, its next generation line of NonPhthalate textile screen printing inks. CENTRISTM inks print and handle like conventional high-performance plastisol inks, but are formulated with non-phthalate plasticizers (that contain no orthophthalates). CENTRISTM inks meet major U.S. and international regulatory standards for phthalates, metals
and other restricted substances. With many retailers and sportswear companies demanding more
eco-friendly solutions for their garments, CENTRISTM is an ideal, proven solution.
“We made a commitment some time ago to convert more of our product line to eco-friendlier products,” said Steve Kahane, President of International Coatings. “CENTRISTM is the latest step for us in
that direction.”
International Coatings has conducted extensive tests, including blind beta-tests of the various products that make up the CENTRISTM series, to insure that it represents the highest quality non-phthalate
inks on the market - ones that perform and have the same attributes as regular plastisol inks.
CENTRISTM inks are press ready and can be used on 100% cotton and cotton/poly blend fabrics.
Initial CENTRISTM product offering:
Whites and low-bleed whites
PMS color matching system
Many of our specialty and special effects inks
Metallic shimmers
Soft-hand enhancers
Foil Adhesive and Foil Resist Additive
Nylon inks
Additives and Reducers
Where To Get The Product:
CENTRISTM inks are available through International Coatings’ exclusive network of distributor companies.

NEW PRODUCTS
DESTRUCTO™ WHITE AVAILABLE NOW!
Achieve the look of vintage or distressed prints simply and easily with the
new 3822 Destructo™ White.
• 3822 Destructo™ White – Once it is cured, the prints crack and split
apart when pulled, stretched, or crumpled, resulting in a vintage or antique
look. 3822 DestructoTM White was developed specifically in response to
customer demand for an ink that could imitate flaking or weathered paint.
More on page 73.
ECONOMICAL KNOCK-OUT™ WHITE AVAILABLE NOW
7044 Knock-Out™ Cotton White and 7045 Knock-Out™ Low-Bleed
White are two new whites developed based on customer specifications
and demand. Both Knock-OutTM whites offer great value and are highly
pigmented, easy to print, formulated to resist ghosting and very economical.
We beta-tested both products and were particularly pleased that several
large, well-known printers who beta-tested the inks gave them rave reviews
for their performance and ease of use. Read more starting on page 41.

3804 LOW-CURE ADDITIVE
3804 PF Low Cure Additive was developed in response to growing customer demand for a product that enables
them to print on heat sensitive substrates,
such as 100% polyester or the very popular non-woven polypropylene bags.
The addition of 3804 PF Low Cure Additive
to regular plastisol inks can lower the cure
or fusion temperature to 300º F (149º C)
and in some cases, even to as low as 275º
F (135º C).
Check out more on page 75.
3820 DIRECT PRINT FLOCK ADHESIVE
Flock is back in fashion, and not just on T-shirts. Button-down shirts,
blouses, skirts, and denim jeans are sporting the ever-popular flock!
3820 Flock Adhesive was developed to provide strong flock adhesion that
cures into a soft, elastic, pliable print. Comments from the large print production shops that beta tested 3820 Flock Adhesive noted the products as
one of the best flock adhesives on the market today.

SENTRI™ SERIES OF
SOFT-HAND REDUCERS
International Coatings Company™ recently introduced its new line of
Sentri soft-hand enhancers. The line consists of 3816 Sentri Clear
– a soft clear enhancer, 3817 Sentri Black – a printing black used to
achieve super soft hand prints and the 3818 Phthalate-Free (PF) Sentri
Curable Reducer – a viscosity modifier and a soft-hand additive.
Although the Sentri™ series products share some basic attributes,
each offers its own unique features:
• 3816 Sentri™ Clear can be mixed with finished colors or color concentrates or used as an extender base, curable thinner, or as a top
clear coat for reducing fibrillation.
• 3817 Sentri™ Black offers a deep black color that will look and feel
similar to a water base print, and it works well with fine mesh counts.
• 3818 PF Sentri™ Curable Reducer offers much improved hand over
other viscosity-modifying products and extends yield when used as an
additive, which in turn can reduce production costs. And it’s phthalate
free.

7044 AND 7045 KNOCK-OUT™ WHITES
International Coatings Company™ introduces its new 7044 Knock-Out
Cotton White, and 7045 Knock-Out Low-Bleed White. Both KnockOut whites offer great value and are highly pigmented, easy to print,
formulated to resist ghosting and very economical.
7044 Knock-Out Cotton White is designed for use on 100% cotton
fabrics. Its creamy viscosity makes the ink very easy to print, so a lot
less pressure is needed to print the ink through finer screen meshes.
7044 Knock-Out Cotton White is very opaque and provides excellent
coverage on dark garments. 7044 Knock-Out Cotton White can be
used as a stand-alone white, as a highlighter, or as an under base.
7045 Knock-Out Low-Bleed White is a low-fusing, fast-flashing plastisol ink that has low-tack and excellent bleed resistance. With its high
pigment content, 7045 Knock-Out Low Bleed White is perfect for printing on 100% cotton or poly/cotton blend fabrics where bleed might be
an issue. 7045 is a bright white ink – truly a “white” white. It contains
no bleaching agents and performs better than many other more expensive, low-bleed inks.
Large printers who have already tested our Knock-Out Whites have
raved about the quality and ease of use of these inks. Get some today!

7040 BLOCKER GRAY™
7040 Blocker Gray™, a bleed blocking phthalate-free plastisol underbase for use on 100% polyester or other textile fabrics where dye migration is a severe problem. The new 7040 Blocker Gray™ was developed in response to growing customer demand for an underbase ink
that could help prevent dye migration during production on bleed-prone
textiles.
7040 Blocker Gray’s unique chemistry makes it highly resistant to bleed,
prevents fabric dye migration in almost all situations, and helps build
greater opacity. When overprinted with white or colored inks, 7040
Blocker Gray™ preserves the brilliance of the whites and colors, and
maximizes the details of the design.
7040 Blocker Gray™ is a high performance ink that prints easily and
flashes quickly.

GEN IV Series
We are pleased to announce the much anticipated launch of our PVCfree, Phthalate-free, eco-friendly GEN IV Series inks. GEN IV series inks
are unique. Unlike other eco-friendly inks, GEN IV inks are creamy and
full-bodied, and offer the coverage, opacity and performance of plastisols.
GEN IV was developed to provide optimal performance on both manual
and automatic printers.
GEN IV inks do not dry on the screen and cleanup is simple – all that’s
needed is water. No harsh solvents or chemicals are necessary!
We have run extensive tests on GEN IV inks in our tech center. We love
the soft hand and coverage it gives even on dark garments.
Initial GEN IV Product Line Details
In addition to being PVC-free and Phthalate-free, GEN IV does not contain
any heavy metals or other harmful materials. GEN IV has been tested by
independent labs and certified as meeting Oeko-Tex standards. You can
view the certificates on our website or by clicking here.
GEN IV’s initial product line consists of 19 primary colors and several specialty inks. The colors can be used as stock printing colors or as color
primaries in the GEN IV color matching system. The initial line of GEN IV
specialty inks include a Clear Base, Puff Additive, Foil/Transfer Adhesive,
and a Glitter Base. For a short video demo, visit our website at www.iccink.
com.
The Tiger prints below were printed through the same screens, one using
Plastisol inks, the other GEN IV Series inks and were printed the same
way. Can you tell which one was printed with which inks?
Answer: Tiger on the right was printed with GEN IV inks

What About Special Effects?
The minute our Print Applications Manager, Ed Branigan, got his hands on the
GEN IV line, he immediately tested the ink on the manual as well as automatic
printers. Not only did he print with the inks straight and tested the glitter and puff
bases, but he also tried to come up with other techniques to showcase some special
effects.
Here are just some of the results: (more to come!)

SPECIALTY PRODUCTS & ADDITIVES
When vibrant colors and bright whites are not enough, International Coatings™ comes through with dimensional, glitter, reflective, metallic, puff,
granite, and other special-effect inks to meet the need.
With the variety of inks available in our product line, there is no limit to
what your imagination can produce. By using specialty inks such as our
dimensional inks, holographic glitter ink, gel gloss ink, metallic shimmer
ink, or even our bead adhesive to add caviar beads to your textile prints,
ideas can become reality.
Check out these NEW additions to our specialty product line:
3822 DESTRUCTO™ WHITE
Achieve a distressed or vintage look the easy way with our new 3822
Destructo™ White. The print cracks and splits apart when crumpled or
stretched.
3804 LOW-CURE ADDITIVE
3804 PF Low Cure Additive offers a printing solution for heat-sensitive
materials that are prone to bleeding or dye migration when subjected to
conventional oven or dryer temperatures. In addition, the 3804 Low Cure
Additive is Phthalate-free!
3820 DIRECT PRINT FLOCK ADHESIVE
3820 Flock Adhesive was developed to provide strong flock adhesion that
cures into a soft, elastic, pliable print. It is a two-part, simple-to-use ink
that allows a thick deposit to be printed easily for flocking.
Here are more of our specialty and special effects products:
108 LF GLOW-IN-THE-DARK
Our Glow-In-The-Dark (Phosphorescent) ink produces a bright, greenish
glow in a darkened environment, after exposure to a light source.
This product is ready-to-use from the container and can be used for direct
print or cold peel transfer applications.
HIGH DENSITY INKS (HD)
These inks produce dramatic 3-dimensional, heavy-deposit prints.
Because of reduced tack and increased flow characteristics, these highviscosity plastisol inks will print through thick stencils. Their unique flash
time will speed up production and dwell time in the dryer.
Extremely sharp edges can be produced for maximum effect. Available as
142 LF HD Base, 143 LF HD White and 144 LF HD Black.

METALLIC SHIMMER FASHION COLORS
Due to popular demand, International Coatings is introducing new fashion
colors of pre-mixed Metallic Shimmer: 146 Ruby Red Metallic, 148 Royal
Metallic, 149 Purple Metallic and 147 Green Metallic.
The new Metallic Shimmers add a bright, non-tarnishing metallic sparkle
to printed garments. The inks contain fine, shimmering glitter flake in a
low bleed, low fusion, easy-to-print base that performs well on automatic
and manual printers.
155 LF LB SHIMMER PLASTISOL
155 LF LB (low-bleed) Shimmer is a translucent iridescent glitter flake in
a very clear base. It is a press-ready plastisol used for creating special
sparkling effects on garments.
156 LF, 157 LF METALLIC SHIMMERS
Our 156LF Metallic Silver and 157LF Metallic Gold Plastisols are all pressready.
They provide a bright, non-tarnishing metallic sparkle to printed garments.
The inks consist of fine, shimmering glitter flakes in a low-bleed, low-fusion, easy-to-print base. Easy printing is a real plus for manual and automatic printers when it comes to wear-and-tear on people and equipment.
199 LF LOW BLEED FIRST DOWN CLEAR
This low bleed product works as a base to help prevent bleeding when a
white base is not wanted. It is a medium viscosity plastisol clear ink with
fast flash and low bleed characteristics.
Printed wet, 199 LFFirst Down Clear also works to “wet trap” fibers when
printing a low bleed white on top.
220 LF PUFF ADDITIVE
220 LF Puff Additive will produce a raised or puff effect when added to
standard plastisol inks.
222 LF DULLING / SUEDE ADDITIVE
222 LF Dulling or Suede Additive is ideal for reducing surface gloss in
most plastisol inks or to create a suede look and feel.
500 LF QUICK TRANS ADDITIVE
When added to our Multipurpose or 700 Series plastisol inks, the 500 LF
Quick Trans Additive will convert those inks to hot split or hot peel transfer
inks.

720 LF SOFTHAND CLEAR
This product is a super clear, curable extender base plastisol specifically
formulated to soften, extend and increase the flow characteristics of most
plastisol inks.
1199 LF STRETCH INK ADDITIVE
1199 LF Stretch Ink Additive can be easily mixed into Multipurpose, 700
Series or 1100 Series plastisols to produce increased elongation on Lycra,
Spandex and other stretch fabrics.
1199LF is a 100% solids ink that contains no solvents. The printed ink has
excellent laundry resistance.
3801 LF PLASTISOL FOIL ADHESIVE
3801 LF is a clear plastisol adhesive used to produce brilliant metallic foil
designs on textiles.
3801 LF adhesive can be printed directly onto the fabric. Foil is then applied
to the dried adhesive.
The adhesive also can be printed directly on the foil in a way similar to printing a conventional transfer. Designs made with 3801LF adhesive can be
applied to light or dark fabrics.
3802 FOIL RESIST ADDITIVE
3802 Foil Resist Additive can be added to most standard plastisol inks to
make them resist adhesion to foils. More details on following pages.
3805 LF SUPER STRETCH CLEAR
This specially formulated plastisol provides exceptional stretch and is great
for use on Lycra, Spandex, knitted rib, or combination stretch fabrics.
This versatile product can also be used as a stretch additive, foil adhesive,
or as a clear carrier for PVC or glass beads. When added to regular plastisol inks, it adds a nice glossy finish.
3806 LF GEL GLOSS CLEAR
Formulated to produce a very glossy “wet” look when printed on top of other
flashed plastisol inks, this unique plastisol product is not sticky or tacky
after curing.
It also can be used as a caviar bead (PVC or glass) adhesive.
3807 LF PHTHALATE FREE GEL GLOSS CLEAR
This product produces the same “wet” look when printed on top of other
flashed plastisol inks, however it is Phthalate free.

effect.
3809 LF SPECIAL FX CLEAR
This is a plastisol clear product which achieves a very high glossy finish
when used as a base or overprint.
Special FX Clear works well as a high-density clear for “stacking” purposes
and has minimal after-flash tack. Cures at low temperatures.
3810 BLOWOUT BASE
3810 BlowOut Base will blister and bubble up to form a unique spongy and
textured surface. See following product pages for more details.

QUALITY ENGINEERING
All INSTA® machines have a cast-in tubular heating element, the most reliable even heating source available. The temperature control sensor is located as close to the heating surface as possible to ensure accurate temperature sensing.
Platens are cast and heat-treated. The printing surface is tested for ultimate
flatness. INSTA® coats the upper heating platen with Teflon for easy cleaning. The lower platen is covered with the finest silicone sponge rubber for
superior applications.
All these features come housed in a heat-treated aluminum casting for
strength and durability. The painted finish is baked enamel, which keeps
the machine looking as good as the products it seals.
Quality parts and construction from the inside out – INSTA®’s machines are
the ones you can depend on!
SAFETY FIRST
INSTA® manufactures ten manual and automatic (pneumatic) models available in 120-volt and 240-volt systems.
All INSTA® machines proudly carry approvals for quality and safety from
agencies such as UL in the Unites States, CuL in Canada and CE in Europe. These certifications assure customers that they are purchasing machines that meet the highest standards.
INSTA® pioneered the swing-away heat platen, which prevents direct exposure to the heating element. During application, a safety latch on manually
operated machines keeps the handle in place. INSTA®’s automatic models
incorporate a two-hand switch operation, anti-tiedown devices, breakaway
platens and disengage switches for additional safety.

Special Effects Print Techniques
This simple technique using our High Density Dimensional ink was demonstrated by printing guru Charlie Taublieb at FESPA 2007 in our booth.
He simply used a wallpaper brush instead of a squeegee to get this striated effect. Very simple and very effective. Try tone-on-tone or contrasting colors.
Here is another simple technique that Charlie showcased at FESPA 2007,
simply using our 3808 Bead Adhesive and some caviar beads.
Get a great look by using this simple technique!
Ed Branigan came up with this special effects look. For this particular
design, only one screen was used.
• Apply IC’s 3809 FX Clear using 110 mesh screen and 200 micron
capillary film.
• Add caviar beads by hand while the adhesive is wet.
• Cure at 330° F for 1 minute.
• Apply silver foil on top of the caviar beads and quickly (1 second) apply the foil with a heat transfer machine. Hot peel the foil and voila!
Here are the settings used on the heat transfer machine: 350 degrees F,
10 psi for 1 second
For this particular design, you will need 3 screens as follows:
1st screen
• Use a mixture of 90% 3810 BlowOut™ Base and 10% Black Color Concentrate (you can use other colors, of course) on a 25 mesh screen
• Flash the ink (10 seconds)
2nd screen
• Print your design again using the mixture of 90% 3810 BlowOut™ Base
and10%Black CC, using the 25mesh screen
• Flash (10 seconds)
3rd screen
• On the third screen, use a mixture of 90% 3811 Granite Base™ and
10%Black CC on a 40 mesh screen
• Cure @ 380 degrees for 2 minutes and voila, you’ve got an amazing
textured design.

CONDITIONS TO AVOID
: High Heat and Fire, Moisture
INCOMPATIBILITY (MATERIALS TO AVOID): Water, Amines, Strong Bases, Alcohols, Copper
Alloys, Aluminum.
HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS: By Fire and High Heat: Carbon Dioxide (CO2),
Carbon Monoxide (CO), Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx), Dense Black Smoke, Hydrogen Cyannide,
Isocyanate, Isocyanic Acid, Other Undetermined Compounds.
HAZARDOUS POLYMERIZATION: Contact with moisture, other materials that react with
isocyanates, or temperatures above 350°F (177°C), may cause polymerization.
SECTION VI- HEALTH HAZARD DATA FOR PRODUCT: 900 CATALYST
INHALATION – ACUTE: Diisocyanate vapors or mist at concentrations above the TLV or PEL can
irritate (burning sensation) the mucous membranes in the respiratory tract (nose, throat, lungs) causing
runny nose, sore throat, coughing, chest discomfort, shortness of breath and reduced lung function
(breathing obstruction). Persons with a preexisting, nonspecific bronchial hyperreactivity can respond to
concentrations below the TLV or PEL with similar symptoms as well as asthma attack or asthma-like
symptoms. Exposure well above the TLV or PEL may lead to bronchitis, bronchial spasm and pulmonary
edema (fluid in lungs). Chemical or hypersensitivity pneumonitis, with flu-like symptoms (e.g., fever, chills),
has also been reported. These symptoms can be delayed up to several hours after exposure. These
effects are usually reversible.
INHALATION – CHRONIC: As a result of previous repeated overexposures or a single large dose,
certain individuals may develop sensitization to diisocyanates (asthma or asthma-like symptoms) that
may cause them to react to a later exposure to diisocyanates at levels well below the TLV or PEL.
These symptoms, which can include chest tightness, wheezing, cough, shortness of breath or
asthmatic attack, could be immediate or delayed up to several hours after exposure. Extreme
asthmatic reactions can be life threatening. Similar to many nonspecific asthmatic responses, there
are reports that once sensitized an individual can experience these symptoms upon exposure to dust,
cold air or other irritants. This increased lung sensitivity can persist for weeks and in severe cases for
several years. Sensitization can be permanent. Chronic overexposure to diisocyanates has also been
reported to cause lung damage (including fibrosis, decrease in lung function) that may be permanent.
SKIN - ACUTE: Causes irritation with symptoms of reddening, itching, and swelling. Persons previously
sensitized can experience allergic skin reaction with symptoms of reddening, itching, swelling, and rash.
Cured material is difficult to remove.
SKIN – CHRONIC: Prolonged contact can cause reddening, swelling, rash, and, in some cases, skin
sensitization.
EYE – ACUTE: Causes irritation with symptoms of reddening, tearing, stinging, and swelling. May
cause temporary corneal injury. Vapor may cause irritation with symptoms of burning and tearing.
EYE – CHRONIC: Prolonged vapor contact may cause conjunctivitis.
INGESTION – ACUTE: May cause irritation; Symptoms may include abdominal pain, nausea,
vomiting, and diarrhea.
INGESTION – CHRONIC: No data available on 900 Catalyst. Chronic ingestion of component,
Page 2 of 8

FIRST AID MEASURES
Eye Contact
In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Use lukewarm water
if possible. Use fingers to ensure that eyelids are separated and that the eye is being irrigated. Then
remove contact lenses, if easily removable, and continue eye irrigation for not less than 15 minutes. Get
medical attention.
Skin Contact
Immediately remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash off with soap and water. Use lukewarm
water if possible. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse. For severe exposures, immediately get under
safety shower and begin rinsing. Get medical attention if irritation develops.
Inhalation
Move to an area free from further exposure. Get medical attention immediately. Administer oxygen or
artificial respiration as needed. Asthmatic symptoms may develop and may be immediate or delayed up to
several hours. Extreme asthmatic reactions can be life threatening.
Ingestion
Do not induce vomiting. Wash mouth out with water. Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious
person. Get medical attention.
Notes to physician
Eyes: Stain for evidence of corneal injury. If cornea is burned, instill antibiotic/steroid preparation as
needed. Workplace vapors could produce reversible corneal epithelial edema impairing vision. Skin:
This compound is a skin sensitizer. Treat symptomatically as for contact dermatitis or thermal burn.
Ingestion: Treat symptomatically. There is no specific antidote. Inducing vomiting is contraindicated
because of the irritating nature of the compound. Inhalation: Treatment is essentially symptomatic. An
individual having a dermal or pulmonary sensitization reaction to this material should be removed from
further exposure to any diisocyanate.

suspected.
SPILL AND LEAK PROCEDURES: Evacuate non-emergency personnel. Isolate the area and
prevent access. Remove ignition sources. Notify management. Put on protective equipment. Control
source of the leak. Ventilate. Contain the spill to prevent spread into drains, sewers, water supplies, or
soil. Call International Coatings Company (800) 255-3924 for assistance and advice. Major Spill or
Leak (Standing liquid): To minimize vapor, cover the spillage with fire fighting foam (AFFF). Released
material may be pumped into closed, but not sealed, metal container for disposal. Process can
generate heat. Minor Spill or Leak (Wet Surface): Cover spill area with suitable absorbent material
(Kitty Litter, Oil-Dri®, etc). Saturate absorbent material with neutralization solution and mix. Wait 15
minutes. Collect material in open-head metal containers. Repeat applications of decontamination

solution, with scrubbing, followed by absorbent until the surface is decontaminated. Check for residual
surface contamination. Swype® test kits have been used for this purpose. Apply lid loosely and allow
containers to vent for 72 hours to let carbon dioxide (CO2) escape.
PREPARING WASTES FOR DISPOSAL (ADDITIONAL SPILL PROCEDURES/NEUTRALIZATION):
Neutralization solutions:
(1) Colorimetric Laboratories Inc. (CLI) decontamination solution.
(2) A mixture of 75% water, 20% non-ionic surfactant (e.g. Poly-Tergent SL-62, Tergitol TMN-10) and 5%
n-propanol.
(3) A mixture of 80% water, 20% non-ionic surfactant (e.g. Poly-Tergent SL-62, Tergitol TMN-10).
(4) A mixture of 90% water, 3-8% ammonium hydroxide or concentrated ammonia, and 2% liquid detergent
NOTE: Dispose of all wastes in accordance with Federal, State, Local regulations. Incineration is the preferred
method. Empty containers retain product residue; observe all precautions for product. Do not heat or cut empty
container with electric or gas torch because highly toxic vapors and gases are formed. Do not reuse without
thorough commercial cleaning and reconditioning. If container is to be disposed, ensure all product residues are
neutralized and removed prior to disposal.
INTERNATIONAL COATINGS CO. requires immediate notification, (800-255-3924) when this product is
unintentionally released from its container during its course of distribution, regardless of the amount
released. Distribution includes transportation, storage incidental to transportation, loading and unloading.
Such notification must be immediate and made by the person having knowledge of the release.
SECTION VIII - SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION
INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE/VENTILATION MEASURES: Local exhaust should be used to maintain levels
below the TLV and PEL whenever diisocyanate is handled, processed, or spray-applied. At normal room
temperatures (70°F) TDI levels quickly exceed the TLV or PEL unless properly ventilated. Standard
reference sources regarding industrial ventilation (e.g., ACGIH Industrial Ventilation Manual) should be
consulted for guidance about adequate ventilation. To ensure that published exposure limits have not
been exceeded, monitoring for airborne diisocyanate should become part of the overall employee
exposure characterization program. NIOSH, OSHA, and others have developed sampling and analytical
methods. Methods can be made available, upon request.
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: At normal room temperatures, airborne TDI can exceed the ACGIH TLVTWA; therefore, in inadequately ventilated environments, respiratory protection must be worn. The type of
respiratory protection selected must comply with the requirements set forth in OSHA's Respiratory
Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.134). The type of respiratory protection available includes (1) an
atmosphere-supplying respirator such as a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) or a supplied air
respirator (SAR) in the positive pressure or continuous flow mode, or (2) an air-purifying respirator (APR).
If an APR is selected then (a) the cartridge must be equipped with an end-of-service life indicator (ESLI)
certified by NIOSH, or (b) a change out schedule, based on objective information or data that will ensure
that the cartridges are changed out before the end of their service life, must be developed and
implemented. The basis for the change out schedule must be described in the written respirator program.
Further, if an APR is selected, the airborne diisocyanate concentration must be no greater than 10 times
the TLV or PEL. An organic vapor (OV) cartridge is recommended for APR use.
HAND PROTECTION: Gloves should be worn. Nitrile rubber shows excellent resistance. Butyl rubber,
neoprene, and PVC are also effective.
EYE PROTECTION: When directly handling liquid product, eye protection is required. Examples of eye
protection include a chemical safety goggle, or chemical safety goggle in combination with a full face shield
when there is a greater risk of splash.
SKIN AND BODY PROTECTION: Avoid all skin contact. Depending on the conditions of use, cover as
much of the exposed skin area as possible with appropriate clothing to prevent skin contact.

143
MEDICAL SURVEILLANCE: All applicants who are assigned to an isocyanate work area should undergo
a pre-placement medical evaluation. A history of eczema or respiratory allergies such as hay fever, are
possible reasons for medical exclusion from isocyanate areas. Applicants who have a history of adult
asthma should be restricted from work with isocyanates. Applicants with a history of prior isocyanate
sensitization should be excluded from further work with isocyanates. A comprehensive annual medical
surveillance program should be instituted for all employees who are potentially exposed to diisocyanates.
Once a worker has been diagnosed as sensitized to any isocyanate, no further exposure can be permitted.
ADDITIONAL PROTECTIVE MEASURES: Emergency showers and eye wash stations should be
available. Educate and train employees in the safe use and handling of this product. Follow all label
instructions.
