The meeting was called to order at 1:00 PM, and facilitated by Rick Duggan, CCPS Elayne Gundeck, ESE Secretary, volunteered to record the meeting minutes. The PIT Team welcomes Ellie VanderMeuse and Barbara Brown as a new members to the team. GOALS AND ACTION PLANS Action plan # 1 – Members submit updated organization information Action plan # 2 – Uniform information form Action plan # 3 – Website template Action Plan # 4 – Brochure utilizing Project 10 Grant Action plan #5 - Media Day Rick came up with an agenda for this meeting, but would also like to reiterate last meetings goals and go over some action planning. He will take some notes during the meeting and will send it back to the members for input. In addition, he would like to include all members instead of primarily CCPS. In this, all representative views would be accounted. One idea that was brought up was developing an additional secondary worksite like a Life program for 18-22 years of age and age 22 and beyond.. Good examples were the Moorings Park Program. Increasing Community participation was another topic that was mentioned not only in the meetings, but locating more businesses that we can reach out to as potential work sites for our student. David Glenn reminded us that we need to update the information on the agencies as well as your own agencies that we give out in the communities. Under the Tactics Guide you will find information on Sharing the Commitment, another Cooperative Agency that is used by CCPS. Since the information is rather out dated in the Tactics brochure, updated information on the agencies along with the members updated information can be submitted so we can update the guide along with graphics, or make into brochures. In addition, the idea of a newsletter was suggested. Lisa suggested a searchable web based directory be created instead of a PDF. This can be updated on a quarterly basis, include information along with the quarterly meetings dates, spot light some of the business and employers that are employing our students and young adults along with the meeting minutes This may be a good tool in recruiting interest for new agencies. Rick agreed and will host this. An additional tool that is being piloted by CCPS is student Directed Summary of Performance. This provides information on a disabled students educational and vocational needs, progress, transition and experience. A new action step could entail submitting a small blurb including contact information of their agency, and organizations the member is working with. Lisa Chavez commended making a form for the information so everything remains uniform. Rick agreed, as a second action step, create a form template and submit at the next meeting. At this time the agency could tell us what links are going to be listed on their page. The home page should include a PIT page, a resource page, and member’s page. The member pages will then link to the agencies page. This may already exist in your own website. When supplied, Rick and Elayne will coordinate with our Assistive Technology team to develop a usable format on a website. Rick stated the template for the web site will be ready in 2 weeks. The information for the web site needs to be sent to Rick by the next meeting (March 23). The target for web site completion is in June. The information can be submitted to duggri@collier.k12.fl.us PROJECT 10 GRANT Three sites within with CCPS are receiving this grant. Immokalee High School, Lely High School and Naples High Schools. A wonderful example of the success of this grant is from last year. Lely High School had a school store for the students. The grant money was awarded to start up the store, but the students utilized it to augment and earn money for their participation. In addition, the student had to do well within the program in order to participate The goal was to have the store self generating income for the student. Lisa stated that there were grants available for organizations such as PIT. The grant is called Pilot Transition Site Mini Grants. The maximum for this grant is $2000.00. Another grant called Interagency Collaboration is a full mini grant application that offers $1500.00. If you are interested, the dead line is February 17. Once the funds are awarded you have until October 1st to use the entire grant. Lisa volunteered to lend a hand to anyone needing assistance with the application. Once the the grant is awarded and we get the proper releases, the money can be used to recruit organizations. Rick suggested a sheltered workshop, including a brochure showing what it looks like with some of our students and different sites. In addition, this could be handed out not only to vendors and employers, but to parents in hopes to increase participation. On the back page of the brochure, add instructions how employers could get involved, internship, or volunteer. Barbara Brown strongly suggested keeping the brochure simple so it is easy to navigate participation. Out of town conferences and travel is one more item that the grant can cover. At the beginning of the year, such as October, a Meet and Greet mini luncheon could be held including incentives and recognitions off the CCPS work site. In addition, use the new brochure and/ or the media. Target groups could be Kiwanis, The Chamber for commerce, the Rotary club, Publix, Walgreen’s, or CCPS . These companies could sponsor or donate the awards. The PIT group will be attending the Diversity Festival at Hodges University on March 5TH, 12:00 PM-5:00 PM. Rick stated he would put together a flyer for this event. The following volunteered to run the booth: Rick Duggan, Abiba Jimma and Joe Belardinelli. Rick will attempt to locate a banner for the event. OPEN DISCUSSION Elayne will supply the PIT group with the list of companies that already employee students using the CCPS Cooperative Agreement. Jennifer from The Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples, located at North Collier Regional Park offers locations for children with all disability to participate. The building and programs are accessible. Around 200 volunteers and 20 staff members with go through disability training. A variety of programs will be available such as Breaking the Barriers on Saturday mornings and special Autism Sensory nights. Conover Company supplied CCPS a transition tool for some of our students called the I-Touch. This is now being piloted along with other software and devices creating a peck system or augmentative device. The software is available to download from the Apple Store. More information will be supplied to the group at the next meeting Kathleen Peck with Lighthouse of Collier Inc., Center for Blindness and Vision loss, living skills, assistive technology, a summer program and transition programming. offers orientation in mobility, There will an art exhibit with VSA in August. If you would like additional information regarding this event, please contact Kathy Iwanowski at kathy.iwanowski@nurseartistsinternational.org SPECIAL NOTE Rick recognized that Josephine Morris will not longer able to support the PIT at this time.
