Paula proudly announces she has been successfully unemployed for 26 years. A dynamic, infectious, and inspiring presenter, Paula regularly speaks to small business groups about the joy of being in business and the “What if” attitude that has allowed her own and many of her client’s businesses to grow and prosper. Author of Speaking in the Shower - Presentation Skills Exposed, Paula is also an authority on standing up and speaking out. Liz Davenport - Fashion Designer Business woman, eco-campaigner, fashion designer, mother, wife and philanthropist – it’s difficult to settle for one mantle when it comes to Liz Davenport. In the fickle world of fashion, she has remained a stalwart. And if you think she is slowing down any time soon, think again. “Retirement? Who ever heard of the word!” she laughs. Liz’s motivational presentation touches upon the courage that is needed to do anything in our lives that is out of the ordinary, as well as how to achieve a balance of business and family and what makes people have such conviction to succeed and why. 10.30am Morning tea 11.00am Turning adversity into opportunity Leonie Gully - Founder & Creator of Moon Haven in Cowaramup (Margaret River) Like many small business owners, Leonie has many titles. Managing Director, Formulator, Creator, Marketer and Consultant. Leonie will share her business story that began when a serious health issue turned adversity into opportunity and in the process she became healthier and happier. Together with her late husband Eric they developed a product to ease her suffering that became the core of Moon Haven and expanded to a full range of ‘handcrafted soaps, lotions and potions’. Leonie has recovered from personal tragedy and the business has recovered from a devastating fire which wiped out their entire manufacturing facility and wholesale business. They lost everything. The fire not only affected their business but also the business of their retailers, staff and the surrounding community. Overcoming adversity with a positive attitude, Leonie’s mission is to help put the natural and joyful back into your life. 11.45am 12 noon Short Meditation Session with Gillian Robertson - Core Star Healing 5 min stretch break 12.05pm Maintaining positive mental health in the workplace Jackie McRae - Mental, Physical and Emotional First Aider Jackie is a principal master trainer in the internationally award winning Mental Health First Aid Course, with over 75 courses delivered throughout Western Australia to a range of industries. As the founder of Holistic First Aid, Jackie is passionate about empowering people to help the whole person, mentally, physically and emotionally. Jackie will discuss the most common mental health issues in the workplace; depression & anxiety, how to spot the signs & symptoms as well as identify strategies to help yourself, loved ones or work colleagues. Jackie is involved in a variety of health related fields including university lecturing, volunteer telephone crisis support, and has completed studies in Transactional Analysis, Sports Science & Health Promotion. Meet the Speakers Paula Smith Liz Davenport Leonie Gully 12.50pmLunch 1.40pm The joys and challenges of being a leader in the Australian Defence Force Lieutenant-Commander Alexandra Turner – State Manager WA, Defence Reserve Support Alex joined the Navy straight from high school and graduated from the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) in 1991, completing a BA with Honours in 1992. She subsequently became a Seaman Officer, responsible to the Commanding Officer for the control and safety, at sea and alongside of, the ships in which she served. She was amongst the vanguard of women to serve on Australian warships. After deciding that her interests lay elsewhere, she moved to a career in Defence intelligence. Alex will share some of her experiences of being a woman and a leader in the Navy, including being a cadet in the early days of the ADFA and being in the vanguard of women to serve in Australian warships. She will also discuss her favourite topic: the joys and challenges of being a modern working woman. Married with children, Alex has a lot of interests outside work, and is desperately trying to find the elusive work-life balance. 2.25pm Start Laughing things are getting serious, with Jon Doust - comedian, novelist, professional speaker and social funster 2.45pm 5min stretch break 2.50pm Showing successful leadership qualities in a male-dominated arena Jo Del Prete - Manager, WA Regional Services at Department of Sport and Recreation Jo has a career spanning over 20 years working in sport, recreation and physical activity at a state, national and international level. In her current role as Manager of Regional Services, Jo is responsible for overseeing the operational requirements of the department’s nine regions as well as coordinate the department’s response to the broader regional development agenda, ensuring sport and recreation is positioned as a key contributor. Jo commenced her strong involvement in the game in the early 90’s whilst she was at University where she took up the role as Freeball Coordinator for the WA Football Development Trust. For those that don’t know, Freeball was the precursor to AusKick. For the last 10 years, Jo has also held the position of Chairman of the East Perth District Football Development Council - a voluntary role that oversees football development across the community within the East Perth District. Jo will share her leadership journey with us and the passion that drives her. 3.35pm Afternoon tea 3.55pm From High Heels to Hiking Boots Janette Philp - Author, Adventure Trek Leader An achiever and an adventurer, Janette gained her private pilot’s licence at forty, walked the Kokoda Track at fifty, has gone on to conquer the summit Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kinabalu and has recently returned from Mount Everest Base Camp. Janette has built, bought and sold numerous businesses over the years and after discovering her passion for writing, is now an author, publisher and co-owner of Three LLLs. Three LLL’s is all about “Women Inspiring Women” and this is reflected in her LiveLoveLaugh book series. Janette pours her heart and soul into supporting others in achieving success in their lives. She believes in people and encourages setting goals and taking action to accomplish them. Her philosophy, “There are only two times in life, Now and Too Late” is dedicated to inspiring those around her to make their dreams come true.
