Dear Members:
We just wrapped up one of the best seasons ever at
St. Andrews Country Club with increased member
participation in all areas of the Club. The Gatsby
Spring Social was a great success and the perfect
send off for those of you headed up north or overseas.

Our sales remain strong with 20 homes closed since November 1. We have five
pending closings which will result in five more new members. We continue to see a
wide variety of new members from families with children in school to recent
retirees and look forward to welcoming them all to the St. Andrews family.

On a final note, we recently had a severe thunderstorm that not only dropped 11” of
rain over the community, but did significant damage to both the Palmer and Olde
Courses. I applaud George Kervern, Director of Golf Course Maintenance and his
entire team for their dedication and mastery in repairing the damage and getting
the Olde Course ready to play 24 hours later. The Palmer Course experienced much
more damage to the bunkers, with one even collapsing, but our Golf Course
Maintenance team was undaunted and had the course open for play within five
days. Thanks to all of you for going above and beyond to make sure the courses were
once again in top condition.

For those of you here year-round, there is still much to do over the summer, even
with the Club Improvement Plan Phase II renovations underway. A member
favorite, Wednesday Wine & Dine returned on May 15 to Lakeside and if you are
new to the club, this is the place to be every week to socialize with your friends and
neighbors. If you haven’t signed up already, stop by the Golf and Tennis Shops for
the Memorial Day and July 4th Firecracker events and mark your calendars to join
us for the All American Dinner Buffet at Lakeside on July 4th before heading out to
watch the fireworks.
I want to thank all of you for your patience as we had to reroute our normal member
entrances to the Clubhouse, Lakeside, Fitness/Tennis/Spa building and the
Promenade Room. While it was hard at first to adjust to these new routes, I think we
all have found our way and are moving about more comfortably now. The
renovations are moving forward quickly and I encourage you to login to our
member website at www.standrewscc.com frequently for the most up-to-date
information on the progress being made.
Eileen and I wish you all a happy, healthy summer.

Phase II of the Club Improvement Plan is underway and after one
month we have a lot of progress to report. The removal of trees, plants
and flowers from the pool area and in front of the clubhouse is almost
complete. Many of the trees have been transferred to a holding area
and will be replanted in new locations around the pool and the front
entrance as part of the final tasks on our very long list of summer
projects.
The parking lot has been fenced off and signs are positioned throughout
Craig D. Martin, CCM,
the area to help guide members and guests to their destinations. Valet
Chief Operating Officer
shuttle service between the bag drop, Lakeside and the temporary
and General Manager
entrance to the Promenade Room operates at a steady stream. We have
expanded the shuttle service to include the Fitness/Tennis/Spa building directly from your
vehicle or the bag drop area.
Demolition of the pool area, except for the main pool, is almost complete, providing a
clean foundation for our new Aquatic Recreation Area to be constructed. In the clubhouse,
demolition is ongoing and moving forward at a steady pace.
I want to thank you all for your patience and understanding as you found new routes to
Lakeside, the Fitness/Tennis/Spa building and the temporary entrance to the Promenade
Room where Bridge and Ladies’ Card Play is being played this summer. The professional
staff and I understand that this is a major inconvenience and welcome your input on how
we can make this transitional period easier for you, your families and guests.
The Dining & Pool Reciprocal Guide underwent some changes from participating clubs
and you all should have received the updated information via mail, email or online. As you
visit these clubs we remind you that you are representing St. Andrews Country Club and
appreciate your cooperation with the rules and regulations specific to any given club so
that everyone may continue to enjoy the reciprocity arrangements.
I encourage you to visit our private member website at www.standrewscc.com and login to
see progressive photos from Phase II of our Club Improvement Plan. We will be updating
the status at the beginning of each month, starting in June.
Please be sure to review the May, June & July Summer Highlights on page 4 and take
advantage of the many activities and events happening around the Club.
I wish you all a happy and healthy summer.

Dining
So begins the next chapter of our Club Improvement Plan
also known as Phase II. It began with total disruption of
some normal routes to the pool, tennis, spa, fitness, offices,
usage of facilities being closed, alternative parking and
transportation changes that you might need a degree in city
planning in order to understand.
All that said we are finally settling into new routines that
include morning bagel and coffee service at Lakeside and
the Spa, coffee service in both men’s and ladies’ locker
rooms, and bridge and ladies’ card play restricted to the
Promenade Room. Lunch and dinner is now served
exclusively at Lakeside and we have erected a ramp and
awning structure connecting Promenade with the path to
Lakeside.
Now the fun begins with the start of new
construction including a new front entry,
lobby, lobby lounge, Gallery and St.
Andrews Room. The Gallery dining
experience has always been the talk of the Darrell Wilde
Assistant General
town but next season we are stepping up
Manager
our game with all new menus, dining
programs and a whole new look that will
be sophisticated and refined. The look of the new room has
been meticulously thought out and every design detail has
been carefully scripted to ensure only the finest quality
result. Our team of professionals are already working with
their new committees to create social events, golf, tennis,
entertainment, children’s events and food and beverage
programing that will make next season the best ever here
at St. Andrews Country Club.

THE
Around Club
Activities
For those of you that had an activity
filled season, get excited as we are
always growing and raising the bar,
here at St. Andrews. Many of the
children that attended our activities
this year were regulars, although we
had many new faces that had a great
Ali Hall
time as well. Any child that didn’t have
Activities Manager
the chance to attend this year, here is
an overview of what great activities
there are on board for next season.
Kid’s Club is a once per month activity that is held on a
Friday night in the Rec Room. It goes from 6pm –
9pm and is only $20 per child. Each child receives
supervision, dinner, a movie and endless activities that
revolve around a theme appropriate for children ages
5-12 years of age. This is a great chance for parents to
have a well-deserved date night or dinner at the Club
with friends.
We also offer a Dive-In movie once per month that is
held poolside (weather permitting). This is a
complimentary event with no need to make a
reservation that will feature a kid friendly movie with
all the popcorn and candy one can only dream of! We
also feature dinner items from Lakeside’s pool window
for a price if you care to have dinner during the movie.
New to the kids’ activities is the “Kids Can Series.”
Founded last year by Children’s Activities Chair,
Wendy Kohansky, the Kids Can Series, will be held
once per month and feature something new each time.
Certain days and times each month are subject to
change due to the activity, but with supervision and at
$10 per child, the kids will learn how to cook, garden,
and learn different techniques to take with them in
their daily activities.
Also, to be focused on this upcoming season, is our
tweens. The ages of 8 – 12 are often left behind when
planning activities and since it is such a critical time of
growing up, this age
group is going to have
star treatment this
upcoming season! Be
prepared to reserve
your tween’s spot in
some totally fun and
exciting events
featured in the 20132014 Social Calendar!

Crowning of Champions
Fred & Carolina Fisher shot a 79 to hold off the rest of the field and defend their title to win the
2013 Husband & Wife Club Championship. The Fishers will try next year to make it three
straight. Steve & Joan Babic won Flight II, George & Sharon Fontini took Flight III, and Frank
& Phyllis Gladstone captured the crown in Flight IV.
Next up was the 1st Annual “Championship Sunday.” On the ladies’ side Wendy Kohansky made
an amazing comeback to defend her 2012 title over Carolina Fisher and Amy Ross. Wendy had
Paul Clivio,
an outstanding Sunday round to help her capture back-to-back titles. On the men’s side Marty
Director of Golf
Weisfeld took out defending champion David Bender on the previous weekend to set up a
36-hole match against the tough Charlie Cartwright. Charlie and Marty played even through the first 18 holes but
Cartwright proved to be too much and pulled away late on Sunday to close Weisfeld out 2 and 1 on the 17th hole. It was
Charlie’s first championship title. Championship Sunday ended with a cocktail reception at Lakeside where all the players
who participated in all the flights helped celebrate the crowning of the club champions.
The men held their Closing Event on Saturday, April 20. Over 150 men played, the most in over 10 years, in the A-B-C-D
scramble and enjoyed some of Chef Steve’s delicious 19th hole treats as well as The Best lunch buffet in town. The day also
included awards for all the tournament winners and runners up throughout the season.
The S.A.W.G.A. followed on Tuesday with their Spring Golf & Luncheon. Meryl Gallatin’s “April Showers Bring May
Flowers” themed event was a huge success. The ladies enjoyed breakfast on the balcony and a beautiful, plated lunch after
golf. Awards were also given out to all the tournament winners from the 2012-2013 season. The Board was also sworn in
for the upcoming season. A big Way To Go goes out to Meryl Gallatin for making the day so special for all the ladies.

The Challenge Cup scratch matches for women golfers in
Palm Beach County concluded on April 15 at Ironhorse
Country Club. St Andrews did very well thanks to Team
Captain, Maddy Seeman. We will be working on our games
for the 2014 season beginning in March. Next year’s cocaptains will be Amy Ross and Meryl Gallatin.
Ina Rae Fox has once again organized the seasonal interclub
matches called Summer Swingers which began with its first
match at St. Andrews. We are wearing our “lucky red team
shirts” and are competing against Broken Sound, Gleneagles,
Mizner, Aberdeen, Boca Woods and The Fountains.
Our Ladies’ Spring Luncheon was a huge success! “April
Showers Bring May Flowers” had a great turnout and
enthusiastic participation. The golf format was innovative and
fun; breakfast and lunch were delicious! Meryl Gallatin, chair,
Paul Clivio, Ben Bauer, Terry Farino, Glenn Hall, Mike
Johnson, Chris Brady, Chef Steve and staff, Shannon
Fitzpatrick and staff had a wonderful time working on this on
behalf of S.A.W.G.A. This was definitely a team effort! The
day was fabulous!
Did you know that St. Andrews has a women’s golf
tournament schedule throughout the year? We are the only
country club in our area that continues great tournament golf
from May to November. Please check the sign-up book in the
Golf Shop, read the eblasts or “Style” and join us on Tuesdays.
Happy golfing,
Meryl Gallatin

Our annual April Closing Tennis Event and
Luncheon was all around a tremendous success.
Beautiful blue skies paved the way for a
wonderful day but a great turnout from our loyal
and very supportive tennis members is what
made the event a memorable one. Round robin tournament play
kicked off the morning in style and was followed by a special St.
Andrews Country Club Pro doubles exhibition held on stadium court.
All members who attended were treated with a fun yet competitive set
of doubles between the St. Andrews tennis professionals. Thanks to all
for coming out to cheer us on! The two-hour round robin tournament
was hard fought and after three rounds, trophy winners were crowned.
On the Ladies’ side, Sue Katz continued her ever improving play to take
home the championship trophy. Finalist Susan Lande played
extremely well and finished a close second. On the Men’s side,
Champion Peter Lande used his vast experience and strong forehand
to squeak past Finalist Bob Rosenberg. Congrats to all trophy winners!
As our tennis calendar for 2012 / 2013 draws to a close, I want to thank
all of you for your participation and support, which was the obviously
the key to making this season a huge success. Our events were well
attended and overall court activity was up, so thanks again for a great
season! I do want to remind everyone that as we approach the hot and
humid summer months that your staff is here to serve you in any
possible way. So, please come out to improve your game, enhance your
fitness, and, most importantly, enjoy your tennis experience.
In closing, I want to thank my entire staff for all their hard work in
making this a very successful season. That includes our fantastic pros
Dave, Simon and Marcelo, as well as Cici and Michelle in the Tennis
Shop and of course Tito, Julio and Hedmond for making our courts the
best of the best! For those of you heading north or leaving for the
upcoming months, the entire staff wishes you a wonderful summer
and looks forward to your return next season.
See you on the courts!

IT MIGHT BE TIME TO
CHANGE YOUR WORKOUT
F it ne s s
SCHEDULE
Whether you workout with your own routine or work
with one of our creative trainers, there are certain signs
that tell you it’s time to change your workout regime.
Here are 4 to look for:
1. YOUR WORKOUT BORES YOU.
Ginger Alfano
Director of Fitness
If you used to like walking on the treadmill, but now you
you dread your workout each day, you could be bored. Maybe you have been
doing the same thing for too long. Try taking your workout outside, adding
speed intervals, or bringing a friend along. Or maybe it’s time to try a new
activity. Change can help keep your workouts fun and interesting, giving you
something to look forward to. And that is exactly what will keep you coming
back for more.
2. YOUR WORKOUT ISN’T GIVING YOU RESULTS ANYMORE.
Someone who does the same activity all the time is very likely to plateau. Your
body adapts to these same exercises so that they don’t offer the same benefits
that they once did. Variety means either changing your current workout or
trying something new. If you like consistency and don’t want to change your
workout each time you hit the gym, change your routine at least every 4-8
weeks. This will keep your muscles challenged, your body guessing, and the
results coming!
3. YOUR WORKOUT ALWAYS LEAVES YOU TIRED AND SORE.

Sundays
Exercise should give you more energy, not less. If you’re feeling overly tired
or perpetually sore, you could be overtraining. Your body needs time for rest
and recovery. If you don’t give your body ample recovery time, you’ll become
weaker instead of stronger. You might need up to a week off to recharge
mentally and physically. Talk to a trainer before starting again to get the most
out of your time in the gym without overdoing it.
BALLET SCULPT
4. YOUR WORKOUT IS NO LONGER CHALLENGING.
Saturdays
If your workouts aren’t challenging you anymore, it can be helpful to wear
a heart rate monitor. Your heart rate will change over time as you become
more fit. By using a heart rate monitor, you’ll know to change up or intensify
your routine. Challenging your body improves your fitness level and can also
provide a sense of accomplishment as you become stronger and work toward
your goals.

Body exfoliations and back treatments are ideal during this time of year
when we find ourselves outdoors more often. These treatments are
aromatherapy based and offer an exfoliation of the skin leaving the body
renewed and re-energized.
Our skin is our largest organ and it absorbs so very much; our pores suffer
from being clogged with the body’s natural oil secretions, dirt, lotions and
sunscreens. Many of us have a tough time reaching those hard to get spots
and these services allow not only for pampering but proper care.
Our Sunless Tanning service takes only 30 minutes to give you a beautiful
nice warm brown glow; a safe alternative to sun bathing or tanning beds.
One of our top retail items is the at home regimen where you can keep
your tan lasting longer. This product is also great for those golfers or tennis
players that get the “unique” tan lines. It will help blend the tan with the
untanned; feet, shoulders and arms.

We had a wonderful Bridge Closing Day and the
winner of the Masterpoints Race for the
2012-13 season was Myrna Keisman, then overall winners
in order were Phyllis Rosenstock and Joe Hickey in First
Place, Linda Tafet and Adele Hast in Second Place, Yetta
Bregman and Peggy DeZwirek in Third Place and Susan
Simon and Ellen Goldberg in Fourth Place. On behalf of the
Bridge Committee and myself, congratulations on a wonderful year in Bridge
and best of luck in all of your future Bridge games!
Twilite Bridge on Thursdays had a closing dinner with an amazing turnout of
50 participants. This is sure to be a wonderful tradition for the Twilite players
to meet and greet new players and see friends. Look for the Twilite Opening
and Closing Dinners next year as this was an instant hit and start of a new
tradition at St. Andrews.

We are very excited to
inform you that
beginning with the July/
August Style Magazine
we will be featuring
employees from around the club in a special
“Get to Know” section. One of the greatest
things about living and/or working at St.
Andrews Country Club is the sense of
belonging. As our website welcomes each of
you or a visitor, this is the place where
“Friends Become Family.”
The St. Andrews Country Club employees are
designated by Front of the House employees
and these employees interact with our
members on a daily basis. The Back of the
House employees are those of us who work
behind the scenes to help make the magic
happen. Employees from the Front of the
House and from the Back of the House will be
highlighted each month based on their years
of service. By selecting years of service by hire
date, we ensure all employees are fairly
recognized.
The “Get to Know” will provide you with a
little bit of information about the employees,
their years of service, family status, their
responsibilities at the club and a photo to help
you recognize them when you see them
working. I hope you will all enjoy learning
more about the employees of St. Andrews
Country Club, they are an integral part of that
“special something!”
