Autumn Issue 2006. - The Traveller
revista nuevo estil2006.6 3/8/04 12:30 Página 1 Editorial Welcome to the new edition of the Traveller, Welcome to the autumn edition of The Traveller magazine, dedicated to the members of the various travel and lifestyle clubs that Timelinx, “the holiday club people”, service. New Format You may have noticed that we missed an edition of The Traveller this year; it was due to the fact that we have reformatted the magazine to better suit the requirements of our members. As well as the regular ingredients of in-depth information on holiday destinations and useful tips whilst travelling, it will include some super, special offers on some amazing holidays. Offers from as little as £29 per week per apartment These offers are not in the usual last-minute category, they are all available during the next year; giving you, the members, ample time to take full advantage of them. If the response from these offers is good, we will continue the magazine in this format and continue to deliver unbelievably lowpriced weeks. Book early All members should book early when possible. We expect a high demand and all offers are subject to availability, which is in fact more than 1000 weeks, so, again, book early to avoid disappointment. The concept we are using here now is very similar to many of the low-cost airlines who have achieved great success in selling the first available seats at the lowest price, in contrast to the traditional methods of selling the last-minute seats at the lowest price. The reason for this concept’s success is because it encourages customers to book well in advance, something that our suppliers are also looking for from us. So help us to help you. BOOK EARLY…and we will deliver more deals! Resort Directory I think most members already know about our resort directory, but just for those that don’t, it is on sale now from our reservation centres. As not everybody chooses to use our online service we have produced the directory to satisfy the demand from the clients who prefer the more traditional methods when it comes to deciding upon their holiday destination. Win £35,000 or a BMW X5 Be sure to fill in the annual members’ competition to give you a chance to win this great prize, I can tell you that the threshold minimum to draw the competition (1000 entries) has already been achieved, so it’s happening! And remember…you can’t win if you don’t enter! Kind Regards and Happy Holidays! Traveller 5 Destination Cyprus 6 Traveller Photos: Cyprus Tourism Organisation Paphos Harbour at dusk Grape harvest The island of Cyprus in the eastern Mediterranean is a modern country that effortlessly marries European culture with ancient enchantment. Here, visitors will discover a compact world of alluring beaches and fragrant mountain peaks, vineyards studded with olive trees and ancient ruins that stir the imagination, citrus groves and old stone villages where sweet wine flows as freely as conversations at the local café. T he charms of Cyprus are many and varied. For a start the weather is sunny and dry for most of the year, and the encircling sea is blue, clear and enticing. There are modern luxury hotels in the coastal resort towns, historic restored city precincts to explore, taverns and nightlife aplenty. Cyprus has remote picturesque mountain villages and monasteries, classical Greek and Roman ruins, beautiful churches, Crusader castles and fascinating museums. The local people are extremely welcoming of tourists, happy to share with them their innate love of life and camaraderie. In Cyprus it is possible to mingle with crowds, or seek isolation off the beaten track as the mood takes, even in peak holiday season. For this reason the island is also a favoured destination for honeymooners, a reputation enhanced by the fact that legend has it that Cyprus was where Aphrodite, Greek goddess of love, rose from the sea. Nicosia, Cyprus’ capital, is unique in Europe because it is divided by the 'green line' that bisects the whole island, dividing north from south. The line, which serves as a United Nations peacekeeping buffer, was drawn in 1974, when the Turks invaded and took over the north. Most of the tourism development since then has taken place in the southern Government-controlled sector, and the political divide, even in Nicosia itself, has not dampened the island's appeal as a holiday Mecca. Paphos Paphos, a small charming harbour town, on the west of the island, is one of the main tourist spots in Cyprus. This stunning town has holiday charm with an air of historic elegance. Among its attractions are its ancient mosaic floors, its beautiful old harbour, its modern hotels and restaurants, situated along the seaside promenade. Other sights include an archeological museum, the Byzantine castle of Paphos, the Tombs of the Kings, St. Paul’s Pillar and the Temple of Aphrodite (the goddess of love and beauty). Bordered by a lovely coastline, the Paphos area has charming villages in its mountains; here life has gone unchanged over the years, where the customs and traditions of the country have been kept alive. Traveller 7 Destination House of Aion Mosaic Floor, Apollo and Marsyas, Paphos One of the legends says that if you swim around the ‘Petra tou Romiou’ rock three times naked under a full moon, you’ll fall in love 8 Traveller Limassol It is situated in the south of the island and it is Cyprus’ main industrial and maritime area and also the second biggest town of the country. There is a lot to see in Limassol besides a busy industrial centre. Places of interest include the Berengaria Castle -the place where Richard the Lionheart married Berengaria-, Kolossi Castle, the ancient city of Curium and its still functioning theatre and many other archeological spots scattered around the city. If it is nightlife you are looking for, check out Yermasogea, the tourist area of Limassol, where both locals and tourists meet in the vibrant clubs and bars. The old city centre though is the place to go to. A walk will lead the visitor to a vibrant community full of shop owners craft people, artists of all disciplines and businessmen. Protaras Protaras, the tourist resort of Paralimni in the south east, consists of a series of small communities, which have sprung up around various bays stretching from Cape Greco to the outskirts of Paralimni. The area has blossomed in the past fifteen years, taking full advantage of an exquisite shoreline blessed by simply stunning golden sand beaches ranging from the very popular one at Fig Tree Bay, which is undoubtedly one of the best beaches in the Mediterranean, to small, secluded and almost deserted coves. Protaras has a good selection of shops, bars, discos and restaurants but for the more adventurous, the shining lights of Ayia Napa are only a short taxi ride away. Inviting Beach, Protarras PRACTICAL GUIDE Climate The Cypriot climate is typically Mediterranean. Most of the year is dry and sunny with unpredictable rains falling in December-February. The best time to visit this scenic island is April to October. Summers there are very hot with temperatures reaching 40ºC. The winters are mild and very enjoyable. Open Air Market, Lefkosia Language Greek and Turkish are the official languages. English is widely spoken. French and German are also spoken in the tourist industry. Documentation Visitors from the EU do not need any Visas to visit Cyprus. Currency In the Turkish part of Cyprus the Turkish Lira is used. On the rest of the island the Cypriot Pound is the recognised currency. However the Euro is also widely accepted. Its coast hypnotizes the tourists with its unrivalled landscape beauty, with a fine combination of stunning cliffs, wet area like lagoons, large sandy dunes and small coves, along with its famous beaches such as Alcudia, El Arenal or Cala Pi. Majorca beaches are among the best in the world with their fine sand going down towards the crystal clear Mediterranean Sea Traveller 15 Destination Any visitors approaching Palma by sea will be impressed by the graceful Gothic cathedral as it gradually emerges into view W ith the advent of the independent traveller and low cost airlines, the island has developed an abundance of great places to stay. Whether you are looking for a city break, peace & quiet, activities or complete pampering Majorca covers all styles and budgets. The island has over 230 km of aquablue coastline backed by long white sandy beaches, pretty coves and rocky headland. Of the 76 official tourist Majorca beaches 25 have been awarded Blue Flags by the European Union for being safe and well kept. It is the exceptional cleanliness of so many Majorca beaches and the bathwater warm sea which makes them safe for children and ideal for family holidays. North coast of the island at dawn 16 Traveller Majorca’s calas or coves are quieter and very pretty. They cover the fjordlike coastline especially in the south east of the island where the high, A festival commemorating the battles between Moors and Christians Bellver Castle, Palma deeply eroded cliffs often shelter tiny white ribbons of sand at the end of these small inlets backed by shady pines. The main beaches offer every kind of water sport and leisure activity imaginable - beach volleyball, water skiing, jet skiing, windsurfing, parasailing and much more besides. Explore the coast by catamaran or marvel at the multi-million pound yachts moored in some of the world's swankiest marinas. Furthermore, the island benefits from a privileged situation in the Mediterranean Sea. So, its climate conditions are excellent, with warm summers but bearable and mild winters. There are few times of real cold a year. The average annual temperatures are between 16º and 18º C. It could reach more than 2931º C in summertime. The sea is calm and warm to bathe in all year round. Palma de Majorca Half of the population of Majorca lives in its capital. Palma de Majorca is brimming with vibrancy and cheer. Its cosmopolitan atmosphere and lively streets makes this a city well worth a visit, as does the historic centre and the elegant areas of La Rambla and El Borne. A visit to Palma must include the entry of its awesome Cathedral. Presiding over the city and the port, the Cathedral is one of the largest Gothic structures in Europe. The period of Moorish left the tenthcentury Arab Baths and the Almudaina Palace. The best example of the civil architecture in the city is the Lonja, where the active, prosperous medieval merchants run their public exchange. Another must see attraction of Palma is the Bellver castle, amazing panoramic views of the city can be found from this hill-top Castle, with its unique circular structure being both unusual, and exceptional in particular for Spain. Since 1983, Palma has been the official capital of the newly recognised autonomous community of the Balearic archipelago -the 17th ‘state’ of Spain- and has grown into a shiny Mediterranean metropolis. Majorca’s posh credentials are sealed by its reputation as the favourite summer haunt of the Spanish Royal Family, alongside Claudia Schiffer, Boris Becker or Michael Douglas. Mountains The ‘other Majorca’ is located in the mountains and the isolated valleys. The Tramuntana mountain range crosses the entire North-West coast. There is a charming train which makes an exhilarating zigzagging ride from Palma to Sóller through these steep mountains. The trip is an interesting attraction itself, as well as the visit of the lovely towns of Deià, where an important community of artists, musicians and writers live; and Valldemosa, popularized by the famous composer Frederich Chopin in the XIX century. On the other side of the island, the Drac Caves are another popular tourist attraction. The caves run 1,700m long and are wonderfully illuminated by weird figures of stalactites and stalagmites. The beauty of the place is ennobled with the music shows performed from vessels which sail on a big underground lake. Food and drink The so-called ‘cellers’ (wine bars) are the most picturesque places to taste a local speciality. The Majorcan gastronomy is rich and Mediterranean, using a huge variety of agricultural produce. It is not surprising that one can find a high proportion of seafood and fish. However, the most famous island recipe is the ‘ensaimada’, a giant spiral of sugar dusted pastry which is to Majorca what the croissant is to France. Another well-known speciality is the ‘sobrasada’, a spreadable version of red chorizo sausage. Majorca is the only place in the Balearics which produce its own wine in the areas of Binissalem and Llevant. There is mile after mile of soft sandy beaches, sweeping sand dunes and turquoise seas. This island is known worldwide for its fantastic white sand beaches. Every resort on this island is a beach lover’s paradise. Nearly all of the resorts offer a wide variety of water sports. Due to the fact that the water is so clear makes it an ideal destination for scuba diving and snorkelling. A total of 157 beaches are the best lure to Fuerteventura. With warm winds blowing in from the Sahara, the coast around the island is a paradise for water sports lovers. Fuerteventura is now the second biggest windsurfing centre in the world. However, families are also attracted to the less hectic island of Fuerteventura where they can enjoy the peace and quiet of deserted beaches. tura Fuerteventura enjoys a tropical climate throughout the year. The average daytime temperature remains around 20º C all year round, making it an undeniable attraction for tourists. However, there is more to this island than just sun and sea. There is a current boom in leisure centres that invite tourists to discover different aspects of the island’s landscape and culture. Some examples are Tefia Craft Village, the Betancuria Museum of Archaeology and the Morro Velosa Lookout. The beauty of this outstanding island is complemented by the neighbouring islet of Lobos, which is just a short boat ride from the pure white beaches of Corralejo in the north. Spend the day riding on a camel Fuerteventura has become a Mecca for surfers and windsurfers Traveller 21 Destination Las Playitas, a calm little fishing village in the southern area of the island Las Playitas, a calm little fishing village in the southern area of the island changing and growing. Most of the resorts restaurants, bars and shops are lined along the main street that runs down into Corralejo and ends in a maze of small streets by the seafront. Town of Betancuria Corralejo The most well-known and busiest tourist resort town is Corralejo. Due to the number of people going there every year the resort is constantly 22 Traveller In the evenings along the main street there is a children’s play area, with small rides, a playground and bouncy castles. Corralejo has a picturesque harbour. As well as being home to the local fisherman and yacht owners, it is also a port of call for ferry services. The towering sand dunes and crystal clear waters just outside Corralejo are equally stunning and were declared a nature reserve in 1982. In summer, the area is particularly good for snorkelling and a great place to spot small (harmless!) sharks and dolphins. Jandia This is not purpose built resort, what once was a quaint little fishing village is now home to hotels and apartment complexes. It is the second largest of the tourist resorts and that is due to the famous beaches which are even more spectacular than the ones in the south. Butihondo beach is well worth a visit. A walk along the beach could take a while as it is over twenty kilometres long! The lighthouse on this beach marks the southernmost point of the island. A promenade runs the length of the resort, lined with bars, restaurants and shops. There is a little harbour to the west towards Morro Jable. As fishing is a very popular industry there is plenty going on there. Ferries also run from the harbour to neighbouring islands. Tindaya The village and protected zone sit at the foot of the 401m mountain of the same name. This was once regarded as a very religious place and the mountain was considered sacred. There is still evidence of this to be seen today in more than one hundred carvings of ‘feet’ (podomorphs) in the smooth rock. These unusual carvings which are located at the top of the mountain were only discovered 1978. The feet are said to be there to ward off evil spirits. If you have the energy to get to the summit of mount Tindaya you will not be disappointed by the view. You will be able to see mount Teide the highest mountain/volcano on the island of Tenerife. Food and drink As Fuerteventura is an island that is surrounded by bountiful seas, a lot of the local cuisine is based on the fruits of the sea. Fish and seafood dishes are prominent, and the restaurants that have been on Fuerteventura for generations are expert in the creation of gastronomic delights based on the harvest of the sea. Other local dishes include Canarian potatoes, also called ‘papas arrugudas’, which translates as wrinkled potatoes. These are small potatoes which were traditionally cooked in sea water, which being salty resulted in the wrinkled skin. They are served with ‘mojo’ sauce, which comes in many varieties, the most common being a spicy red variety called ‘mojo picante’ and a milder green version called ‘mojo verde’. This land has embraced the tourism boom with a more laid-back feel than its popular sister islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Nature is a big attraction on this small island crowned by volcanic peaks. Long stretches of sandy beaches, dunes and marinas dot the coastline in white, gold and jet black colours. It offers places to rest under the kindness of a splendid sun, caught up in the rhythmic transformation of life on this Fortunate Island. Fishing town in La Graciosa, island just north of Lanzarote and declared a Nature Reserve Photos: Lanzarote Tourist Board 26 Traveller rote Traveller 27 Destination Aerial view of one of the volcanoes in the Timanfaya National Park Lanzarote enjoys a mild dry climate with average daytime temperatures ranging from 21ºC in winter to 29ºC in summer. This makes Lanzarote the perfect year-round destination. Timanfaya National Park Geysers shoot hot water and steam up into the air A chief attraction in Lanzarote is its extraordinary volcanic landscape with a multitude of remarkable places, including Timanfaya National Park, El Golfo, and Los Verdes caves. The various dark hues of the lava contrast with the clarity of its sandy beaches and create a rare landscape, often described as ‘lunar’ or ‘Martian’. This enchanting island is an example to the world of tourism sustained by its magnificent integration with the environment. The hotel infrastructure, although welldeveloped, has avoided agglomeration by adopting forms more in harmony with the landscape, including small housing developments and the use of traditional architecture. 28 Traveller One of the main attractions of Lanzarote is the volcano park of Timanfaya. Its volcanic lava fields were declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1993. What is now a ‘lunar’ landscape was once fertile, agricultural land, devastated by a series of volcanic eruptions, in 1730 and later in 1824. The barren land with its ochre colours makes an impressive sight. To visit the park, most visitors take the tour bus -a trip that last 45 minutes. Walking trips are possible, but must be arranged in advance. It is also possible to take a short camel ride around the park. Puerto del Carmen The most popular tourist resort on the island is Puerto del Carmen. This resort town is a 10 km long boulevard with hotels, English pubs, Italian pizzerias, apartment complexes and lots more fun. Puerto del Carmen keeps an architectural harmony because there are no high-rise buildings here. All buildings are in the same style which is supposed to reflect the traditional way of building on the island. We have to thank Cesar Manrique, a local architect, for this. Costa Teguise Situated on the southeast corner of Lanzarote, Costa Teguise assembles a group of select hotels and is a haven for families and sun-seekers. Although it is a purpose built resort, Costa Teguise manages to have a nice community feel to it, with lots of little squares around which the bars and restaurants are located. The resort is more low key than some but still has plenty to do with a wide variety of shops and restaurants for all tastes and of course lovely beaches. Playa de las Cucharas is probably the best of the three beaches with uninterrupted views and crystal clear blue waters, but Playa Bastian is another idyllic spot to enjoy the subtropical sunshine. Also on the southern coast, Playa Editorial Famara area enjoys possibly one of the longest stretches of beach in Lanzarote, curving round under the cliffs Blanca is a tourist centre that has grown around a small fishing port. Food and drink Golf course in Costa Teguise Fish has always been the main staple food for the islanders for many centuries, and still is. Usually prepared fried or grilled, on Lanzarote you can get a taste of many common fishes, such as sea bass, hakes, swordfish and tuna -often served with ‘mojo verde’ (a green sauce made of coriander or parsley) and ‘papas arrugadas’ (literally ‘wrinkled potatoes’, which are nothing more than small potatoes boiled in their skin in salty water until the water is gone). Traveller 33 Destination Costa del The Spanish Sun Coast is known as the playground of Europe. With a protective backdrop of rugged mountains, the Costa del Sol enjoys almost constant sunshine. So it is no wonder that it is popular all year round. The Costa del Sol of the 21st century is a paradise of up-market developments, thriving towns, modern marinas, extraordinary restaurants, sumptuous hotels, an absolutely sizzling nightlife and, of course, beautiful beaches. The more traditional side of Spain - this is after all Andalusia - is present here: flamenco dancing and bullfighting are quite popular. Not forgetting to mention the almost infinite number of golf courses, which has led to the region being renamed by some as the Costa del Golf. Photos: Costa del Sol Tourist Board 34 Traveller Sol Panoramic view of Casares, enchanting village only nine miles from the hustle and bustle of the coast Traveller 35 Destination Close-up of a bunker at Atalaya Golf Course, between Marbella and Estepona S tretching from Nerja in the east to Sotogrande in the west, the Costa del Sol takes up over 180 miles of the Spanish coastline in the southern region called Andalusia. With so much to see and do here, a lot of visitors hire cars to get around. Popular tourist attractions are the old towns of Ronda, Mijas and Nerja, whilst those searching for more modern surroundings head for the cosmopolitan boutiques, bars and restaurants of Marbella and Puerto Banus. Typical whitewashed town of Frigiliana 36 Traveller The rich history of Andalusia has left behind a legacy of ruins and historical sites from many ancient civilizations. The strong Moorish connection is apparent throughout: the Alcazaba in Malaga -capital of the Costa del Solwith its ancient fortress overlooking the port is testimony to the centuries long Arab domination. On a cultural level, the region also plays host to a large number of museums, one of which is centred on one of Malaga’s most famous sons, Pablo Ruiz Picasso. Beaches The beach and the sun are without a doubt the two most valuable assets of this important tourist destination. The coastline, full of natural splendour, range from huge expanses of golden sand to hidden coves with secluded and tranquil spots. With an average of more than three hundred cloudless days a year, there are endless hours to enjoy the beaches during the summer. It is never too cold for a swim as the sea has a medium temperature of eighteen degrees, which in August can often rise to above twenty-four. The majority of the beaches feature small open-air bars or typical Spanish beach restaurants called ‘chiringuitos’. The menu typically contains a selection of fresh fish and is usually good value. There are many kinds of beaches to suit all kinds of people. Marbella is considered a playground for the rich and famous. If you prefer to relax by day and party by night you will enjoy the La Caletilla Beach, Nerja exuberance of Torremolinos, Benalmadena and Fuengirola where you will find lots of bars and clubs. Marbella and Puerto Banus have a more sophisticated nightlife with top quality restaurants and expensive nightclubs. If you are feeling lucky, check out the casino. White villages The whitewashed villages of Andalusia are striking monuments of a bygone era in themselves. And, in most cases, their inhabitants still live according to age-old traditions, inherited from their Iberian, Roman and Moorish forefathers. Many of the villages near the coast have become fashionable resorts like Mijas or Nerja, while still conserving their ancient charm, whereas others, lost in the highlands of Andalusia, remain rough and ready olive-farming towns, with a special appeal for the adventurous travellers. Ronda is a lovely town characterised by its wonderful location, placed high above a famous cliff and surrounded by mountains. It captured the imaginations of many romantic writers of Europe during the 19th century. You can get to it from the town of San Pedro de Alcantara, in the west of Marbella. It is also worth visiting Antequera, situated in the north of the province. This town is well-known for its prehistoric dolmens and many other religious and national monuments. Folklore Getting to know the culture and the deep-rooted traditions of the Malaga province can be an attractive alternative to enjoying the beauty of this unique region. The fiestas, Holy Week, flamenco dancing competitions and bullfights are probably the best recommendations for the travellers who are not satisfied with simply following the tourist trail. Tasting the wines of the region and sampling the many different kinds of Singing and dancing at a local festival food is also a task that can provide a great deal of enjoyment. Food is a passion all over Spain, and nowhere is this passion stronger than in Andalusia. From deep-fried fish to tortilla and cured ham to paella the love for food is everywhere, and if you want to try it all there is always the ‘tapas’, small portions of food that are perfect for eating when you are on the go. Often referred to as “the crossroads of civilisations”, the country has been inhabited by a varied list of peoples, including the Ancient Greeks, Romans and the Byzantine Empire. Today it is a modern country with one foot in Europe and one in the Middle East. Turkey combines the splendour, mystery and intrigue of Orient with the ambience of a contemporary society. Turkey is a bit like a huge outdoor museum. Its rich history is very much part of the present, with temples, ancient theatres, churches, mosques, tombs, statues of gods, palaces and fortresses, and much more. Getting away from the cities you will find captivating sea side resorts, with no shortage of bars and eateries, like Antalya, Alanya, Marmaris, Bodrum or Kusadasi, which are very popular with tourists from Europe. This may lead you to believe Turkey is very much oriented on the sea. You couldn’t be more wrong: the Anatolian high central plateau is where Turkish culture is rooted. The soul of the country is to be found in the green pastures of the hinterland, where shepherds still move their herds with the seasons. The Turkish people have an unrivalled reputation for hospitality, the cuisine is to die for, and while costs are rising, Turkey remains one of the Mediterranean’s bargain-basement destinations. Traveller 51 Destination Istanbul's imperial Mosque of Sultan is called the Blue Mosque because of its interior tiles Istanbul Old capital of Rome, Byzantium and the Ottoman Empire, Istanbul is Turkey’s prime attraction. It has the most beautiful mosques (Blue Mosque) and palaces (Topkapi and Dolmabahce) of the country; it has Byzantine churches (Kariye and St. Sophia) and Roman temples. With a population of 12 million people, Istanbul has one part in Europe and the other one in Asia, connected with two impressive suspended bridges across the Bosphorous strait. You can find all kinds of attractions in the city. Make sure that you shop and bargain in the Covered Bazaar (Kapali Carsi), which was built in early 15th century. Antalya Greek Temple 52 Traveller Although many people come to Antalya just for the beaches and the fun associated with them, the city has lots more to offer. There is no need to get bored here. The Kale, the Ottoman citadel, is the nicest part of town, with narrow alleys, old timbered houses, stone archways and private gardens. The old harbour is now a marina with modern yatchs. It is a nice place to spend a evening outside, having a meal or a drink next to the sea. Bodrum Ancient Hallicanassus, city of the great Mausoleum, one of the seven wonders of antiquity, the crusader Castle of St Peter and amphitheatre, is today modern Bodrum, a relaxing and party town with a magnificent mountain surrounding, that is full of great markets and home to stunning sunsets. The sand is warm as well as the water, and it is definitely Turkey’s leading holiday resort. Marmaris This is the major vacation resort on Turkey’s west coast and is probably the Turkish spa most European of the Turkish resort towns. This bustling tourist centre is built around an extensive natural bay at the foot of forested mountain slopes. If you are sailing fan you will know that Marmaris is home to some of the finest sailing on the Mediterranean. You will find a very modern marina there which caters for yachts and boats of all sizes. Pamukkale If you fancy a dip in some mineral rich water, Pamukkale is the place to do it. Pamuk means cotton in Turkish and Kale fortress, so the name means ‘Cotton Fortress’. The white waterfall is indeed a lot like a huge cotton castle. Pamukkale is a World Heritage Site. At the top of the hill there are various spas and hotels that will allow visitors to swim in the hot, bubbly water. PRACTICAL GUIDE Health Pamukkale has a remarkable landscape that should be seen There are no vaccination requirements when travelling to Turkey. Most tap water in the larger towns and cities has been chlorinated, but bottled is still recommended and it costs next to nothing. Be careful when it comes to eating food sold by street vendors. The standard of healthcare and medical facilities in general are not the best so it is advisable to take a private health insurance package for your holiday. Customs You should always respect local customs wherever you travel to, and Turkey has no shortage of customs. You should take particular care during the month of Ramadan, when eating, drinking and smoking during daylight hours should be discreet. Make sure to dress modestly when visiting mosques or religious shrines. Do not take photographs of or near any military or official institutions and always ask permission when taking photographs of strangers. Området runt Estoril, Cascais och Sintra har många golfbanor, alla högklassiga. u r o p e Portugal E Garajau Terrace Apartamentos Turisticos Madeira LOCATION: The Garajau Terrace resort is located in the most beautiful islands of the Atlantic Ocean - archipelago of Madeira. by car.
