Visit us at 41 Railroad Avenue South Big Valley, Alberta Welcome to Ol’ MacDonalds Resort “A Perfect Spot For Family & Friends” P & H Elevator, Feedmill & Coal Shed P&H Elevator and Feedmill Parish&Heimbeckerwasfoundedbytwoflourmillingfamiliesin1909.The P&HElevatorinStettlerwasbuiltinthe1920’s,andtheelevatorhandled manythousandsoftonsofgrainoveritsmanyyearsofservice.Thecapacity oftheelevatorandannexwasapproximately40,000bushels.The15,000 bushelannexwasaddedtotheelevatoratanundetermineddate.Theannexprovidedforaddedstorageandwasanintegralpartofthegrainhandling facilities. The feedmill was added in the late 1940’s and servedmanyfarmersingrindingandmixingtheir livestockfeeds.VirtuallyeveryfarmerintheStettler areawouldhaveusedtheserviceprovidedbythis elevator/feedmill. This is one of the last elevator/feedmillcomplexesleftinAlberta. P&H Coal Shed Coalwasbroughttotownbytrainandoff-loadedintothecoalshed.Teams ofhorseswithwagonsandorsleighs(inthewinter)wouldpickupcoalfrom the coal shed and deliver the coal around town to the houses and businesses.TheCoalShedwasahubofactivityuntilnaturalgascameto Stettlerinthe1940’s.Thisbuildingisuniqueasveryfewcoalshedsarestill inexistence.
