4 SEASONS GARDEN SYSTEM Conception of the 4Seasons system: Francesco Iannone, Serena Tellini - Consuline (Milan) - www.consuline.com Graphic design, photographs, illustrations, text, coordination and prepress: Boutique Creativa (Milan) - www.boutique-creativa.com 3D Rendering: Consuline (Milan) - www.consuline.com Photographs were taken at the Parco Giardino Sigurtà in Valeggio sul Mincio (VR) - www.sigurta.it PRISMA ARCHITECTURAL Shadows of the trees in the winter moonlight my shadow moves along. 1 Masaoka Shiki (1869-1902) 2 The wrong lighting eliminates natural contrast and diminishes the beauty of nature. Light and dark are complementary elements: only when they are put together, in natural or artificial illumination, can we understand the fullness and majesty of natural shapes. 3 Colour adds to the combination of light and dark to interpret a season or emphasize a particular element: nature becomes the scenography that surrounds life. 4 4Seasons is an integrated system of information, technical specifications and luminaires designed specifically for parks, gardens and greenspaces. PRISMA ARCHITECTURAL Lighting a natural element in the best possible way means emphasizing its shape in detail, evaluating its size and possible growth, and visualizing its appearance over a period of seasons. And perfect lighting can be obtained only by recreating the natural equilibrium between light and dark. 4Seasons was created with the idea of suggesting different options for lighting engineering projects that make it possible to control and utilize shadows, in addition to respecting the natural areas. It’s not just a technical matter. We are also thinking about creating atmosphere and taking care of the environment. 5 Throwing shadows has always been a simple but captivating game that can change the appearance of a spotlighted element. 4 SEASONS - GARDEN SYSTEM The variety of plant species, the different growth phases of trees and bushes and the correlation between the different natural elements present in a greenspace are factors that can generate a wide range of lighting problems, even within a single garden. For every situation, 4Seasons allows you to find the perfect combination of light emission and positioning of luminaires. 6 7 For lighting engineering purposes, the infinite variety of plants can also be classified according to shape. Correct lighting can therefore be decided by considering similar criteria for trees with the same basic shape. 4 SEASONS - GARDEN SYSTEM 4Seasons luminaires make it possible to adjust the light emission with screens that have geometric shapes or decorative motifs. Each screen can be used as desired to create light and shadowing effects that play upon the surface features of the element in question, with an infinite number of creative possibilities. 8 Even on a flat surface like, for instance, a long walkway, light can form patterns and decorative effects that integrate artificial lighting into the natural landscape. Each element in a garden, like a hedge or a group of bushes, can be lit up in a particular way to call attention to it in a nocturnal landscape. 9 The shadows generated with the screens can radically modify the spotlighted element. 10 Seasonal variations influence the appearance of parks and gardens. Each season coincides with a specific phase of the life cycle of the different trees, bushes and lawns that change colours and shapes all year long. Nocturnal lighting can be planned to change the dominant colour scheme and adapt to the different seasons. PRISMA ARCHITECTURAL Natural elements and coloured lighting can produce surprising, changing scenes. The change can follow and emphasize the modifications in seasonal conditions, or create a quick, continuous visual effect, like one that could be used for a festive evening. In this way, scenographic content becomes an integral part of the lighting engineering project. The range of 4Seasons luminaires includes several light emission alternatives, with infinite possibilities for changing colours and beam intensity. 11 4 SEASONS - GARDEN SYSTEM THE LUMINAIRES The 4Seasons system includes three types of luminaires and different types of light sources. CUT is suitable for illuminating trees and bushes of any size, and stands out because of its particularly shaped housing, with a slanted contour. The light emission covers a 90° angle, which can be adjusted by closing one of the three open sides. This luminaire can accommodate a wide range of light sources, some of which allow for colour variations. BOX is suitable for illuminating trees and bushes of any size, and has the same variety of light sources as CUT. The light emission covers a 90° angle, and can be adjusted by closing one of the two open sides. DECO is designed for decorative lighting for pedestrian walkways and flat areas. The light emission can be modified by closing one or more of the five open sides. This luminaire is designed for one light source only. Each shape has different requirements, both in terms of direction and in terms of the number of luminaires necessary to illumine the whole surface of the tree. It is well known that a tree’s natural development is regulated by the golden ratio, which is followed even in the fields of art and architecture as a perfect and harmonious proportional relationship. This same pattern also determines the optimal position of the points of light with respect to the size of the plant and the main point of view. 14 Picea Abies X Cupressocyparis Leylandii Acer Pseudo Platanus Salix x Chrysocoma Chamaecyparis Lawsoniana Pseudotsuga Menziesii Sequoia Sempervirens Sequoiadendron Giganteum Cryptomeria Japonica Thuja Plicata Cedrus Deodara Carpinus Betulus Fagus Sylvatica Alnus Pendula Eucalyptus Camadulensis Fagus Pendula PRISMA ARCHITECTURAL 2 2 3 3 4 5 4 5 6 7 8 9 6 7 10 11 10 11 12 13 12 13 14 14 8 9 AREA FREE FROM LUMINAIRES In fact, the points of light should always be placed along the path in a spiral, which develops according to the golden ratio. To avoid glare, the light beam must never be pointed towards the point of observation. 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 OPERATIVE AREA 10 11 12 13 14 MAIN POINT OF OBSERVATION 15 Celtis Australis Populus X Gileadensis Phoenix Dactilifera Acer Campestre Quercus Suber Sambucus Nigra Quercus Petraea Broussonetia Papyrifera Rhizophora Mangle Platanus Occidentalis Ailanthus Altissima Talia Cordata Cocos Nucifera Sobal Palmetto Jubae Spectabilis Olea Europaea Delonix Regia Fraxinus Excelsior Carya Ovata Albizzia Julibrissin Ceiba Pentandra Cornus Florida Arbutus Unedu Acacia Baileyana 4 SEASONS - GARDEN SYSTEM 3 - THE GRAPHIC PERSONALITY AND THE USE OF SCREENS Besides the shape and size, a natural element also has a graphic personality that can be emphasized with shadowing. Screens of the 4Seasons luminaires create a wide range of effects by combining light and dark, which transforms the lighting layout to tailor it to the personality of the natural element. 4Seasons has several screens designed to bring out some typical personalities. However, the screens can be used as desired, to discover creative new effects and generate new sensations. DYNAMIC CONSTANT MOBILE CALM 16 Trees with similar shapes can have different graphic personalities: dynamic, static, mobile or other. The screens for 4Seasons luminaires (Kit Shadow) are designed according to graphic personality to obtain the best light and shadow effects for the specific tree. On the following sheets, there are a few parameters and typical personalities. OUTGOING PRISMA ARCHITECTURAL TECHNICAL DATA SHEETS The technical data sheets contain solutions for optimal lighting of the main types of tree shapes, and for some natural elements found frequently in gardens. For each natural element, the sheet suggests the best type of luminaire with the visualization of the most correct lighting arrangement and a few possible variations, in relation to the seasons or the screens. There are obviously an infinite number of variables in the lighting project of a greenspace. This range of basic solutions was not intended to be all inclusive. In the pages following the technical data sheets, there are a few examples that allow us to explore personalized solutions. The Blind accessory is a blind screen that blocks the light beam. The USB interface for the DMX card is a module that contains a software interface between the PC and the DMX communication protocol, used in the control system of the lights. The IR multi-function remote makes it possible to manage and change the light emission of the light sources Color, Double C and Mini C by sending signals to a infra-red sensor. The IR sensor receives the commands and sends them to the light source management driver. For a schematic representation of the shadows projected from the screens, see the following page. Screens and accessories with the C suffix are rectangular in shape and may be mounted only on the Cut luminaires.
