PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION Uashat, August
PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION Uashat, August 11th 2011 – We are proud to announce the 6th Edition of the Painting Symposium « MAMU » Together at Uashat’s Shaputuan Museum, on 26, 27 and 28 August 2011. Since the symposium was launched six years ago, it has been organized under the banner of “Mamu,” which means “together” in the Innu language and expresses the power of a project that hosts both Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal visual artists. The theme we have chosen for this year is 2011 – Onze Nations ! For the first time in the history of our symposium, we will be convening Quebec’s 11 Aboriginal nations, who will be represented by artists of national and international stature. Equal representation of Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal artists at “Mamu” Ensemble! is one example of our success, and it shows that we have acquired greater access to the media and audiences, so as to provide positive images of Aboriginal art and artists and the importance of intercultural collaboration. In addition, we will be presenting an “Innu-Aitun / Innu culture” component outside the Shaputuan Museum, where 10 Innu artists, artisans and sculptors will be located. This year, we have focused on activities for the whole family. There will be free musical shows starting with « La Caravane Amoureuse de Marc Vala » and « Claude McKenzie », painting workshop for youths at the Galleries Montagnaises, face painting throughout Saturday, juggling workshop on Sunday, BBQ corn on the cob on Saturday along with a free traditioinal innu community dinner, the draw of Ernest « Aness » Dominique’s painting, a silent auction and door prizes! Equal representation of Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal artists at “Mamu” Ensemble! is one example of our success.
