The season opens with a Performing Arts Series and community favorite. The
Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) will return for their eighth appearance
on the series presenting Hansel and Gretel. The Missoula Children’s Theatre
proudly presents an original musical adaptation of the Brothers’ Grimm age-old
tale of a journey, a secret and a grand adventure. A team of two professional
Actor/Directors will arrive in our community at the beginning of the week
with a set, costumes, props and make-up – everything it takes to put on a play,
except the cast. The weeklong residency begins with an open group audition
on Monday, August 13 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the HCTC First Federal Center and
culminates with matinee school performances on Friday and a public evening
performance on Saturday. Around 50 to 60 students in grades 1–12 are cast
and well rehearsed throughout the week, learning lines, songs and choreography
to perform as an ensemble in producing a full-length musical. MCT will conduct
theatre workshops in area schools for any grade level and will present two
matinee school performances. Area schools interested in having a workshop or
attending a matinee school performance should contact the performing arts
office for the Arts Education Schedule and more information.

Lardo & Burley of the Moron Brothers have been entertaining folks for years
with their hilarious stories and original songs. They are a favorite at bluegrass
festivals across the nation and have shared the stage with greats like JD Crowe,
Eddie Adcock, Bobby Osborne and Rhonda Vincent just to name a few. Also
featured will be The Mike Snider String Band. National banjo champion Mike
Snider made his way on the country music scene in the 1980s with his
incomparable wit and stellar banjo playing. Mike first worked his way into
people’s hearts through his hundreds of spots on TNN’s “Nashville Now” and
his seven-year stay in the cornfield on “Hee Haw,” a syndicated television show. In addition to his television work, Mike and his
band entertained crowds for seven years at
Nashville’s Opryland USA. Mike’s popularity
ultimately garnered him a membership among
country music’s elite - The Grand Ole Opry. A
Grand Ole Opry member since 1990, Mike
continues to draw laughter and entertain crowds
with his music. Mike’s show is exciting, funny,
moving, easy-going, but above all, honest---from
his heart. A great night of family entertainment
during the holiday weekend!

Native American Artist Robert Mirabal
Thursday, October 25, 2012 – 7 p.m.
HCTC First Federal Center – Hazard, KY
Admission: $15 adults, $8 students (age 18 & under)
Two-time GRAMMY Award winner Robert Mirabal lives with his family at
the foot of the sacred Taos Mountain in northern New Mexico. Maintaining
a traditional life and keeping the centuries-old customs of the Taos Pueblo
people, Robert has been described as a Native American “Renaissance Man”
- a musician, composer, painter, master craftsman, poet, actor, screenwriter,
horseman and farmer - and he travels extensively playing his music all over the
world. His dozen albums of traditional music, rock and roll, and spoken word
present a contemporary view of American Indian life that is unequaled. A leading
proponent of world music, Robert has merged his indigenous American sound
with those of Africa, Asia and the Caribbean, tapping into a planetary pulse with
a style that defies categorization. Robert has won many honors blending all of
his influences into a musical landscape that conjures up both the historic and
contemporary West that is evident in this unique performance, which includes a
full band and dancers that will transport audience members with a multi-sensory
concert experience unlike any other. Robert will also be available to conduct
workshops in area schools for any grade level and a condensed version of the
evening show is scheduled for a matinee performance that area schools can
attend. Schools interested in having a workshop or attending the matinee school
performance should contact the performing arts office for the Arts Education
Schedule and more information.

Appalachian choral music pieces will be performed by local area high school
choirs and accompanied by faculty and students from HCTC’s Kentucky School
of Bluegrass and Traditional Music (KSBTM) in this tribute performance to
one of our hometown’s national treasures in folk music. The program will be
interspersed with dance, solo and ensemble pieces performed by faculty and
students from both the KSBTM and area schools; and will include Christmas and
seasonal favorites along with some of Jean Ritchie’s most beloved songs. Plans
to incorporate excerpts from KET’s “Mountain Born: The Jean Ritchie Story,” in
addition to some other surprises promises to make it a memorable homecoming
event for everyone. Area school choirs interested in participating in the choral
festival and performance should contact the performing arts office for the Arts
Education Schedule and more information. Area schools interested in attending

Jaimee Paul in “At Last”
Thursday, February 14, 2013 – 6 p.m.
HCTC First Federal Center – Hazard, KY
Admission: $35 includes dinner/show
“At Last” is a tribute to the great girl singers of our time starring Jaimee Paul.
Imagine a 1940s jazz club with the voices of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday,
Rosemary Clooney, and others. Jaimee Paul and her Jazz combo, led by husband
Leif Shires on trumpet, deliver just that. “At Last,” a tribute to that wonderful era
and those fabulous female vocalists of that time, will certainly take you back to
the glory days of yesteryear. “Paul is blessed with a glorious voice (indeed, there’s
significant evidence of [Aretha] Franklin’s raw majesty), one that deserves to
travel under its own powerful steam...” - Jazz Times. A few interesting points about
Jaimee Paul’s career: she is a Nashville recording artist with 3 albums (CDs). First
2 charted well, 3rd is a Christmas CD that was just released. She toured with
both Wynona Judd and The Judds. She performed with Jim Brickman, and was
picked up by EMI Japan where she performed an eight date tour in Tokyo and
Yokohama, Japan, of which six were sold out!
