s PROJECT CASE STUDY: Data Center Mechanical Installation THE OVERVIEW: A client needed a new plumbing and HVAC system installed for a 40,000 sq.-ft. data center, with limited space and an ambitious schedule that would require blocking off a major Chicago thoroughfare. That’s why they called Kroeschell. THE CHALLENGE: A large business in downtown Chicago needed to add a data center. However, the only space available in their building was an office complex on the first floor. They needed a company that not only could handle a project with such a large scope, but also could handle all the issues that can arise when undertaking such a project in downtown Chicago. PROJECT OVERVIEW: Location: Chicago, IL THE SOLUTION: Project Scope: • Install a new plumbing and HVAC system After being selected over three other bids, Kroeschell set to work on this massive project, which included an ambitious schedule and required blocking off a major Chicago road for three days. This became even more of a challenge due to space restrictions within the building, which made moving equipment more difficult. Kroeschell installed the HVAC, plumbing and piping for what was to become two data centers covering 40,000 sq.-ft. of space. The installation included: • Four evaporators • 15 pumps • 24 chillers • 38 lever units • 12” mains to the roof that required a strict timeline, had challenging space limitations and blocked a major downtown Chicago road.
