Celebrating Excellence in
HEALTHCARE
Obstetrics and Gynecology
Dr. Amanda Leib Receives Prestigious William H.J.
Haffner American Indian/Alaska Native Women’s
Health Award
On Monday, May 16, 2016 in Washington
DC, Obstetrics and Gynecologist Amanda
Leib, MD, received the American College
of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG)
William H.J. Haffner American Indian/Alaska
Native Women’s Health award after 20 years
of exemplary service to American Indian
and Alaska Native (AI/AN) women while
based at the Tuba City Regional Health Care
Corporation (TCRHCC).
The award recognizes the superlative
efforts of those individuals who have made a
major contribution to improving the quality of
AI/AN women’s health care.
“She is deserving of this award for
her commitment to the Native American
community and the outstanding service
she provides,” said Kathleen Harner, MD,
MPH, FACOG. “She is an exceptional
physician with excellent clinical skills and a
compassionate nature. We, at TCRHCC, are
lucky to have her on our staff.”
Dr. Leib is recognized as an outstanding
consultant specialist in Obstetrics and
Gynecology (OBG) at TCRHCC,
which includes Sacred Peaks
Health Center, and has consistently
provided excellent care at
surrounding clinics and hospitals:
the Hopi Health Center, Inscription
House Health Center, and Kayenta
Health Center.
“TCRHCC and the surrounding
communities are fortunate to have Dr. Leib
leading a quality Women’s Health Program.
She leads her colleagues in establishing a
better quality of life for our Native women,”
said Lynette Bonar, RN, MBA, BSN, Chief
Executive Officer.
Dr. Leib has served as Chief of Women’s
Services at Tuba City for the past nine years,
Chief Clinical Consultant of Obstetrics
and Gynecology for the Navajo Area since
2011, and as a principal faculty member
for the American College of Obstetrics and
Gynecology and Indian Health Service
Continuing Education Symposia and the
American Academy of Family Practice

Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics
courses conducted biannually by the College
Committee on AI/AN Women’s Health since
2010.
As described in her letter of nomination
for the award, Dr. Leib’s “dedication and
commitment to the Native women she serves
is unsurpassed, and she has had a tremendous
impact on the lives of many. I can think of no
one more deserving of this recognition.”
“Dr. Leib is an outstanding physician
and leader. Her service is emblematic of the
great physicians and providers that TCRHCC
has attracted through the years,” said Dr.
James Kyle, Chief Medical Officer. “We are
extremely proud of this accomplishment and
pleased that it draws needed attention to the
vulnerable population that we serve.”

TCRHCC names first DAISY award
Continued from page 2.
TCRHCC Customer Service Council reviews the
nominations and will select a nurse to receive the DAISY
Award and will present the recipient with an award and
certificate in front of colleagues, patients, and visitors.
There are over 2,000 healthcare facilities in all 50 states
and 15 other countries, committed to honoring nurses with
The DAISY Award. The impact of the program on nurses
at TCRHCC is important, as it focuses on the nurses’ job
satisfaction, retention, teamwork, pride, organizational
culture, healthy work environment, and more.
Bonnie and Mark Barnes started the DAISY Foundation
after their son Patrick developed an auto-immune disease
and died at 33 years of age. DAISY stands for Diseases
Attacking the Immune System. The Barnes family was
awestruck in realizing what nurses do for their patients
everyday. They initiated the DAISY Award because Patrick’s
death left them with a desire to do something to keep his
wonderful spirit alive.
