Problem:
The black design found on this dress is a pigment print.
When drycleaned in perchloroethylene, the black pigment
dissolved and transferred onto the white portion of the
dress, as well as the other garments in the load. This
resulted in discolorations that cannot be corrected.
Responsibility:
The manufacturer. The manufacturer used a pigment that
was soluble in perchlorethylene, causing the print to fail
when this dress was drycleaned according to the care label
instructions.
Recommendation:
If this dress proves to be unserviceable when drycleaned in
accordance with the care label instructions, it should be
returned to the place of purchase for a refund or exchange.
Drycleaner:
Explain the potential serviceability issues to the customer.
Since this dress may potentially ruin other garments in the
load, we are of the opinion that this dress should not be
accepted for processing in any solvent type.
