A word from the Bishop . . . .
A very warm welcome to this ‘Resurgence’ Festival.
I am excited by the vision that lies behind this festival and deeply grateful to
the team who have made it happen. Two of the key ingredients that seem to
mark out a vibrant church are ‘passion’ and ‘expectancy’: ‘passion’ being an
enthusiasm for, and commitment to, our faith, while ‘expectancy’ leads to an
eager anticipation of what God will do in the midst of his church.
My hope and prayer that these will be two of the ingredients that we will
experience at this resurgence festival and are two of the qualities we will take
back to our own parishes. May God fill us to overflowing with the water of his
Spirit.

The Headingly Centre is the home of Grace Church and was designed as a performing arts centre.
The building is not yet fully completed and we only have use of part of the centre for our festival,
as shown on the site plan, following.
Access to The Headingly Centre is from Headingly Lane off Lower Queen Street.
Please do not use the Lower Queen Street entrance. Thanks.
We ask that all children are booked into and out of the Children’s programme for each of the morning
and afternoon sessions – so that we can account for them all!
A parent or caregiver must remain with any under 3s at all times
– also, do please make use of the play area in the crèche building.

Registration for the Children’s Programme is between 9am and 10am.

Children are to be signed in and out of morning and afternoon sessions.

Please be prompt in picking up your child/children from the programme.

Please have your mobile phones with you and leave switched on
as you will be texted if you are needed.

All parents and caregivers (and other interested people) are welcome to attend
any of the children’s programmes.

Each programme will be followed by a half-hour workshop/discussion with the presenter.

Morning and afternoon teas will be provided for the children.

A crèche area is available for parents and pre-schoolers.

In the crèche and in the junior marquee - Under 3’s need to be accompanied
by a parent or caregiver at all times.

Anna Tovey
Speakers and artists
Youth Mobiliser - New Zealand Church Missionary Society (NZCMS)
Anna has a heart for the nations and is passionate about seeing young people getting
involved in mission and putting their faith into action both locally and globally. As a
Youth Mobiliser, Anna focuses on equipping and encouraging youth in mission and
building partnerships with key youth and children’s leaders throughout New Zealand.
Part of this role also involves organising and leading NZCMS Encounter Teams (2-3 week
mission exposure trips) and facilitating the Haerenga Gap Year programme.
Belinda Stott
Belinda’s
passion to rapidly and effectively help people to improve their
mental/emotional health means that she has become a sought after counsellor and
speaker. She is the mother of two young children and enjoys studying, movies, and
international travel (50 countries visited to date!!)

Ben Carswell
Ben
is committed to helping Christians talk about the Good News of Jesus and
encouraging people who don't believe the Good News of Jesus to listen and respond to
it. Within TSCF, he seeks to help enthuse, train and equip students, Minterns & TSCF
staff as they tell others about Jesus, as well as being involved in this directly himself.
Ben is originally from Yorkshire in England, but has lived in the USA, Wales, Scotland
and Northern Ireland. He moved to New Zealand with his wife Jen, in January 2008.
They have 2 young sons, Sam, named after Samuel Marsden (the first missionary to NZ
who's from Ben's home village) and Josh. Sam & Josh are both NZ born, but could also
play sport for England & Ireland, if they don't pick up their parents' sporting genes.
As a student, Ben was involved in his Christian Unions in Aberystwyth (Wales) and
Aberdeen (Scotland) and as a result has seen the potential of campus groups to be a
witness at the University. He loves sharing the Good News of Jesus with students and is
committed to seeing that happen on campuses throughout the NZ & the world. He
enjoys sport, particularly Rugby (both codes), soccer and cricket. His teams are the
Hurricanes & Leeds Carnegie, Warriors & Leeds Rhinos, Liverpool and Yorkshire. He’s
also passionate about proper coffee, reading good books (travel-writing, business books
and biographies and Christian books, of course!) and loves travelling.

Chris Davis
Chris is World Vision’s senior school coordinator for South Island. He has just
completed a field trip to Mali in West Africa with 3 teenage youth ambassadors as part of
the Sanitarium Youth Ambassador Scholarship programme.
Mali is one of the world’s poorest countries and Chris visited some of the poorest
villages in Mali to see the work that World Vision is doing with these communities.
Chris will speak about the richness of community life in Malian villages, the impending
Sahelian famine, and the truly inspirational and life saving changes that are happening
in Mali with nutrition projects and irrigation schemes.
Prior to joining World Vision, Chris lectured at universities in New Zealand, Australia and
the United Kingdom, as part of Unismart. Unismart is focussed on empowering young
university students to meet the new situations and challenges that they will encounter in
their first year at university.
Chris studied in New Zealand at Lincoln University and University of Canterbury and in
the United States at University of California Santa Cruz. He has an honours degree in
philosophy and a post graduate qualification in primary school teaching.
City of Light
City of light – Nelson – rock/worship
Luke Shaw, Jared Altments, Abbey Shaw, Antonio Sardella, Tim Did-Dell
Formed in early 2011 and based in Nelson New Zealand, ‘City of light’ is a five
piece rock worship group with a heart that desires to see people glorify Jesus,
encounter God’s presence and experience the power of His Holy Spirit.
Dave Hough
Dave
is the Suicide Prevention Coordinator for Nelson Marlborough and has
presented at local, national, and international suicide prevention symposium and
conferences. His prior experience includes Mental Health Promotion, Life Coaching,
Christian Pastoral Ministry, and various roles in the Health and Fitness Industry. Dave
originally trained in Physical Education and he coaches and judges men’s gymnastics at
a national level; having represented New Zealand in his youth. He is married to Lyn, the
Principal of a Christian School, and they live in Nelson with their two teenage children.
Dave is passionate about people achieving their potential and understanding their selfworth; in this session he will explore aspects of suicide prevention, mental wellbeing,
brain processes, and spiritual survival.

David Riddell
David, counsellor, theologian and speaker has, for the past 20 years, travelled NZ and
overseas impressing upon the church the need to take mental / emotional health
seriously, in order to be equipped for life and service. He is the founder of the Living
Wisdom movement, and today his team counsel hundreds of people from all corners of
the globe in the key elements of success. He is a motivational speaker and mentor to
pastors from a wide variety of denominations, and is well known locally as a marriage
and family guidance counsellor.
James Keating
James
has been a professional comedian for seven years now. He has performed
comedy throughout New Zealand and Australia, and in 2009 was nominated for the
prestigious Billy T Award. In 2010 James appeared on the hit television show A Night at
the Classic, and in 2011 he performed his new show True Story at the New Zealand
International Comedy Festival.

Jane Bailey
(Ceroc)
Jane and Alastair are both All Saint’ers, and long time Ceroc’ers.
Jane is a planner in a consulting firm in Nelson, and moon lights as a Ceroc dance
teacher, both in Nelson and Motueka. She is also a musician at both All Saints and St
Peter’s.
Alastair is a theological student at Laidlaw College, finishing his PhD, he also is involved
in music at All Saints, and leads a bloke’s fellowship.
Ceroc is a fresh dance style to partner dance to any form of music. It incorporates
elements of salsa, swing and rock’n’roll but simplifies footwork to make it easier to
dance. It is extremely easy to learn, and is designed for people with 2 left feet!
You’ll learn 3 or 4 dance moves and how to put them together to be able to dance
through a whole song. With Ceroc, you will be able to dance confidently in any social
situation.

Kaz Yung
Network Coordinator, Order of St Stephen (OSS)
Kaz is passionate about living as God would have us live –
with intentionality, healthy
Christian community, social justice, ethical living & prayer rhythms. She’s involved in
multiple levels of the Anglican Church – through a range of Three Tikanga events, across
the seven Tikanga Pakeha Dioceses, in her own Diocese of Wellington, her parish of
St Paul’s, Waiwhetu, and the grassroots. She has a heart for trade justice, young people
& local community and lives with other Christians in the Hutt Valley, exploring what it
means to follow Christ.
The Order of St Stephen (OSS) is a religious order for young people between the ages of
16-30 years. It is a chance to experience their faith journey with God through a ‘Rule of
Life’ focussed around three core values of Prayer, Community and Service. This is done
together as a nationwide network and also individually with a mentor to begin to
explore what mission and ministry is all about.
Lee-ann O’Brien
Lee-ann is an Adolescent Nurse Specialist who has recently completed her Masters of
Health Science. The focus of her dissertation was on the impact of spirituality and
religion on health risking behaviours and emotional health concerns among young
people in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
She has worked in the area of youth health for the past eight years in various roles
throughout the country and prior to this worked as a youth worker in various church
communities and Diocesan roles. She currently works in Nelson with young people who
attend Alternative Education or Youth Transition services. Lee-ann has a passion to
work alongside young people as they grow in Christ and figure out where they ‘fit in this
world’.
Matt Stott
Matt is one of New Zealand 's most experienced youth communicators. Over the last
decade he has spoken to more than 250,000 young people on faith related topics. Matt
and his wife Belinda run the popular Christian life-skills course 'Soul Tour'
throughout Australasia each year.
Mike Pilavachi
Mike is part of both Soul Survivor Watford, a congregation aiming to reach out to the
young people of Watford and also Soul Survivor, a youth organisation seeking to reach,
disciple, equip and empower young people to make a difference in their generation.
When Mike is at home he can be found either in his garden tending his vines or in the
kitchen cooking up some delicious meal, he loves to read and supports Manchester
United Football club . . . . well someone has to!

Pete Majendie
Pete - An installational and conceptual artist who has created large-scale, interactive,
multi-media art installations here and overseas. For 10 years he has run Side door
alternative church; a reflective, contemplative art space which also uses poetry and
music to facilitate connection with God.
Sonny Double
Sonny one of 8, born in Australia, grew up in Nelson, in a household where musical
talent was highly valued. In early years, Sonny developed an addiction – playing drums
on pots, pans and buckets on the dining room floor. Irish roots brought Irish music to
the musical table. Age fifteen, Double strapped the first guitar to his shoulders as he
developed in contemporary music knowledge. In 2004, Sonny set out on a journey to
the deep south of NZ, writing original rock music. Working, travelling, writing and
performing became the reality over the next five-years for the group Dream Farm. The
group swept across the lower part of New Zealand, then from Dunedin to Nelson, then
to Wellington. After a year with no huge successes, the group disbanded to pursue
individual paths.
This - in short - has been Double’s music journey, with more to
follow. Now bringing to the table in fresh sound and emotion, this is the travellers’
road.
Stephanie Beck
Stephanie is a New Zealand-based singer-songwriter of the highest calibre. Taking
influence from across the musical spectrum, Stephanie lovingly crafts down to earth
pop gems to soothe the soul.
Stephanie works writing songs, performing and representing World Vision. Her innate
desire to make the world a better place has been evident since her childhood. She has
always been compassionate and desired to make a difference on a global level.
The Glory Sea
The Glory Sea is an indie rock band from Auckland who have played in a variety of
secular establishments and Christian festivals over the past 6 years. They are now
veterans of the annual Parachute Festival, and are very much looking forward to playing
in the South Island for the first time.

MEDIA:
painted, drawn, mixed media, collage or print.
mosaic, fibre, low relief and carved works must be able to be shown hung on screens.
SIZE:
the longest edge of the work must not exceed 100cm (40”), including frame.
NUMBER OF WORKS:
artists may submit two entries. However, while we aim to exhibit as many works as possible,
due to space limitations we are unable to guarantee that all submitted works will be displayed.
We will endeavour to contact any entrant should their work not be displayed.
SELECTION:
the organisers reserve the right not to accept for show any work which is considered

Each work submitted must have the title of the work, medium, sale price or ‘not for sale’ (NFS),
artist’s name and contact details clearly marked on the back of the work.
DELIVERY OF WORK:
entrants are personally responsible for delivering their work before and collecting after the
competition. Artists sending work via courier must include pre-paid return freight tickets.
PRESENTATION:
should be of a high standard, be appropriate to the style and format of the work,
be wall-mountable and ‘ready to hang’ using string-and-hook system. Works in dry medium or
on paper will only be accepted if suitably framed and mounted behind glass or plastic. Oils must
be dry.
Artists submit work at their own risk. Whilst all due care and attention will be taken to safeguard
submitted artwork, Resurgence organisers are unable to be held responsible for any loss or
damage caused. We therefore strongly recommend that artists arrange their own insurance
cover for this event. Artists submit work in full understanding of this condition.
USAGE RIGHTS:
copyrights of images will remain with the entrants at all times. However, in submitting works,
entrants agree that the organisers have permission to use images, with acknowledgements,
solely for promotional purposes at their discretion for the following two years without further
permission or remuneration.
COLLECTION OF WORK:
please arrange for works to be collected from the Headingly Centre 1pm – 3pm Sunday 12
February 2012 or by prior arrangement. Works to be returned by pre-paid freight will be
