Student Education Enhancement Drive
(SEED) contributions ensure high
quality arts integrated education
Thank you to the many families
who contributed to SEED for the
2015/2016 school year! Because of
family contributions to the Student
Education Enhancement Drive our
teachers are able to supply their
classroom with materials to support
high quality arts integrated education.
All SEED donations go directly into
the classrooms early in the school
year to allow teachers to plan ahead
and purchase supplies for this
year’s students. We are so proud
and thankful that 161 families have
pledged to support SEED bringing in
$20,895. This is amazing and we thank
you for supporting our teachers! If
you have not contributed to SEED and
would like to, donations are still very
much appreciated!

There is a new face in the SRCSA
office, her name is Tanya Harlin and
she is the new office manager. Harlin
comes to our school with 17 years
experience working in the Santa Rosa
City School District. Harlin started
working in the schools when her
own children were growing up so she
could work around their schedule.
She worked at an elementary school
as a special education assistant,
went on to Santa High School as
the counseling secretary, and then
served as registrar secretary at Elsie
Allen High School. She spent a brief
amount of time at the District Office
in the human resource department
but quickly realized she preferred
being on a school campus with kids.
So she decided to make a change. That
change brought her to SRCSA.
“I love working in schools and being
around the kids. I think it is because
I always felt like I was a mom, so
maybe it just feels natural to take care
of people here too” said Harlin.
Harlin is the mother of three adult
children and is married to a retired
police officer. When she is not working
she enjoys cycling, running, and
cooking. She is currently in school to
earn a degree in physical education.
She also enjoys reading and has more
than 3,000 books at her house. One of
the things she wants to do as the office
manager is make sure the teachers
here feel supported.

6th grade adventures
trips and speakers in mrs. holmstedt’s
This year Mrs. Holmstedt’s 6th
grade class will be going on several
adventurous field trips and will host
classroom guest speakers.
ALLIANCE REDWOODS, OCCIDENTAL
This is one of Mrs. Holmstedt’s
favorite field trips! At Alliance
Redwoods, students will partake
in zip-lining, ropes courses as well
as develop their teambuilding and
leadership skills. This trip pushes us
out of our comfort zone and really
brings us together as a community.

This experience allows students to
explore the fish hatchery, learn about
watershed dynamics, and collect
weather/soil data. The second trip
will be to the Wohler Pumping facility
in Forestville, CA. Here, students will
learn about where their water comes
from as well as perform: water, soil,
and weather data collection. The
last field trip will be to the mouth
of the Russian River in Jenner, CA.
Students will continue their previous
data collection techniques but add
pinniped monitoring (seals and sea
lions) as well.
HEADWATERS TO OCEAN
Our class will be part of the Sonoma
County Water Agency’s Headwaters
to Ocean Program. This program
includes: a classroom presentation
and three field trips throughout the
Russian River watershed! The goal for
this program is to increase students
awareness of their local watershed
and develop an appreciation for
everything it encompasses. The first

6TH, 7TH, AND 8TH GRADE)
These guests will talk to us about
the different species that call the
Russian River their home; focusing on
Salmonids. Students will learn about
Salmonid genetic inheritance and
what it takes to survive long enough
reproduce.

Tickets are NOW on sale for a preview
production of the holiday classic,
A Christmas Carol! Four of our very
own SRCSA students: 8th graders,
Aisling Donahue and Ari Vozaitis; 5th
grader, Sofia Natalini; and 1st grader,
Jamie Vozaitis have been cast in the
production.
The preview night is scheduled
for Thursday, November 19 at the
6th Street Playhouse. The doors
open at 6:30 pm; show starts promptly
at 8 pm. This unique opportunity
to see a professional theater production
is available at a discounted rate.
Tickets are just $20 for the show ($16
off the regular ticket price). The 8th
Grade class will also be hosting a silent
auction. Appetizers, desserts, and drinks
will be available for sale. Tickets can be
purchased in the school office.
By attending this event, you will be
supporting SRCSA’s 8th graders as they
raise funds to make their way to the
Ashland Oregon Shakespeare Festival in
the spring.

classroom events and field trips throughout the year for the
yearbook. Please label your images or include a note with
date, event or class, and photographer’s name.
1) Load files onto a USB flash drive located in the office on a
clipboard. Sign out a numbered flash drive and return it.
