IOI Corporation Berhad (IOIC), which is the second largest company in
terms of market capitalisation, topped the Focus Malaysia’s best-performing
companies list with a net profit of RM3.37 billion in the 2014 financial year.
The 71% jump in year-on-year net profit was due to a gain arising from the
demerger of its property business and higher contribution from its plantation
division.
IOIPG’s South Beach development, which is known as the largest mixed
development in Singapore, “topped out” its South Tower in early December
followed by the soft opening of Four Points by Sheraton Puchong in PFCC,
the latest business hotel owned by IOIPG and managed by Starwood.

A “Magical Christmas” Charity Day
Being the frontrunner in the supply of sustainable palm oil in Europe, IOI
Loders Croklaan marked a new milestone by achieving one million ton mark
of segregated RSPO-certified palm oil imported in November. Apart from
that, it also introduced a new and strengthened sustainable palm oil policy
which demonstrates its strong commitment towards sustainable palm oil
development.
In keeping with the season’s spirit of giving and sharing, many charity
initiatives were organised by IOI Group to bring joy and hope to
underprivileged groups. Among them was a charity visit to Rumah Keluarga
Kami in Kajang that was organised by Yayasan Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng while
Putrajaya Marriott Hotel, Palm Garden Hotel and IOI City Mall also joined
hands to organise a fun-filled day for children in conjunction with Christmas.
As we bid adieu to 2014, let us ring the New Year with love, peace, joy and
happiness for all. May you and loved ones enjoy good health, happiness and
greater success in the Year of the Sheep!

A WHOLE NEW
TASTES,
AND ADVENT
IOI
City Mall, the largest and brand new
lifestyle and entertainment shopping
mall in the South region of Klang Valley, opened
its door on 20 November 2014 to a huge
turnout. The mall was officiated by IOI Group
Executive Chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Lee Shin
Cheng, IOI Properties Group Berhad (IOIPG)
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr Lee
Yeow Seng and IOI Corporation Berhad
(IOIC) CEO Dato’ Lee Yeow Chor on 23
November 2014.
Tan Sri Dato’ Lee Shin Cheng (centre) with Mr Lee Yeow Seng (left) and
Dato’ Lee Yeow Chor after the eye-dotting of the lions.
The auspicious day was marked by a “lion awakening” ceremony
that was followed by a special lion dance performance by world
champion Kun Seng Keng troupe and a lively dance routine by a
group of local performers. Invited guest and media at the launch
were then taken on a tour to unique attractions at the mall such as
District21, Icescape and the outdoor musical water fountain named
“The Symphony”.
The opening of IOI City Mall, recently awarded Best Commercial
Development at the South East Asia Property Awards (Malaysia)
2014, has been met with encouraging response. The middle- and
middle-upper segments from Kajang, Seri Kembangan, Bangi,
Puchong, Bukit Jalil, Putrajaya, Cyberjaya and Seri Petaling who
throng Alamanda Putrajaya and Mines in Seri Kembangan now have
an option at IOI City Mall. Adjacent to Putrajaya, the administrative
capital of Malaysia, IOI City Mall is well connected to major
highways; and has a population of more than 1.8 million people
within 20 minutes’ drive.
To further boost customer traffic and provide easy connectivity
via public transport, IOI is currently lobbying for a Mass Rapid
Transit station next to IOI City Mall under the new MRT Sungai
Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya Line. Presently, the mall provides shuttle
bus service to major transport hubs in surrounding areas such as
Puchong, Serdang and UNITEN.
The shoppers were enthralled by the lion dance troupe
performance of the award-winning Kun Seng Keng.
Shoppers who crave a different sense of excitement will find
IOI City Mall to be a shopping destination of fun, energetic,
trendsetting experience that appeals to the whole family’s tastes,
trends and adventures. The four-level mall has 350 specialty shops
and ample parking space of 7,000 bays.
Apart from anchor tenants Parkson,Tesco, Index Living Mall, Golden
Screen Cinemas and Thailand-based home centre HomePro, IOI City
Mall offers a melting pot of endless brands when it comes to food and
beverages, fashion, IT gadgets, entertainment and leisure.

Another key attraction is District21, a 55-feet air-conditioned
adventure park designed for families and those with active lifestyles.
Faced with a possible future in year 2066 where the world is in ruins
and resources depleted, District21 simply challenges the skills of
survival in the ultimate aim of surviving the apocalypse. For more on
District21, please turn to page 25 in the IOI Mall section.
From delectable dining choices such as Tony Roma’s, Morganfield’s,
The Manhattan Fish Market, Magnum Putrajaya, Osaka Teppan,
Seoul Garden, Be Lohas to a bevy of shopping outlets such as
PADINI, H&M, Adidas, Dorothy Perkins, G2000, Kitschen, Uniqlo,
Hush Puppies and Xixili, shoppers are spoilt for choice.
Besides food and retail indulgence, IOI City Mall brings an edge of
excitement with its offerings of definitive adventure – Icescape
and District21 – that distinguishes it from other shopping malls.
Located at the first floor, Icescape is the only Olympic-sized ice
skating rink in Malaysia. Spanning 30m x 60m of ice surface with a
breathtaking glass view, Icescape is ideal for leisure skating, speed
skating or even ice hockey. Prior to the opening, 1972 Winter
Olympics (Sapporo) Mr Takahashi and 1988 Winter Olympics
(Nagano) Mr Ogawa, who are experienced rink artisans, were
brought in to ensure the skating rink is in tip top condition and
as smooth as silk.
At Icescape, skaters can enjoy a twirl and a whirl on ice skates that come with
snaps instead of shoe laces while those who do not know how to skate can rent
the penguin skate or be coached.
Shoppers are looking forward to the 36-alley Wangsa Bowl and the

for everyone, IOI City Mall is the best place to enjoy a whole new

CORPORATE UPDATES
BERITAIOI
Q1 Earnings for IOIC
and IOIPG
IOI
Corporation Berhad (IOIC) registered a net profit of
RM176.7 million in the first quarter (Q1) ended 30
September 2014. The net profit decreased from RM301.8 million a
year ago. The revenue of RM3.02 billion also marked a decline of
6.7% from RM3.24 billion.
The lower results were due to the demerger of its property business
which led to the cessation of profit contribution from the propertyrelated business as well as lower contribution from the resourcebased manufacturing division. However, the decline was moderated
by lower translation loss on foreign currency denominated
borrowings and higher contribution from the plantation division.
The plantation division recorded an increase of 12% to RM281
million for Q1 FY2015 due mainly to higher fresh fruit bunches
(FFB) production as well as higher palm kernel prices realised. The
FFB production for Q1 FY2015 was 96,202 tonnes as compared
to 875,835 tonnes for Q1 FY2014. As for the resource-based
manufacturing division, RM108.8 million was recorded for Q1
FY2015 which was 50% lower than RM218.6 million a year ago
due mainly to lower margin and lower sales volume from the
oleochemicals and refinery sub-segments.
Meanwhile, IOI Properties Group Berhad (IOIPG) recorded an
operating profit of RM151.0 million in its Q1 ended 30 September
2014, an increase of 13% compared to the preceding quarter.
The property development division recorded RM124.3 million in
operating profit due to higher contribution from sales of completed
properties and advanced progress works from high-rise residences,
while additional rental income led to property investment division
posting RM17.1 million in operating profit. Similarly, leisure,
hospitality and other operations had a higher income generated
from its two hotels resulting in RM9.6 million operating profit.
Overall, IOIPG reported a lower profit before taxation of RM147.1
million for this quarter as compared to RM163.0 million in the
corresponding quarter. It was due mainly to decrease in share of
results from both associates and joint ventures and higher net
interest expense.

SAGIL ESTATE
O
n 3 December 2014, IOI Group welcomed the members of Aflac
Global Investments for a visit to Sagil Estate in Johor to learn more
about plantation activities and operations. IOI Corporation Berhad
Chief Financial Officer Mr Kevin Wong accompanied the visitors as
they received first-hand information on how palm oil is derived, and
witnessed various day-to-day estate operations such as fresh fruits bunch
(FFB) harvesting as well as buffalo-assisted harvesting at the estate.
It proved to be an interesting insight for the visitors and the visit resulted
in a better understanding of a plantation estate.

A one-day workshop on “Corporate Image

2014 to help participants dress right and improve their networking skills.
The trainer carried out a colour analysis on each participant to establish
the “colour personality” which determines the right colours for make-up,
clothing and accessories. Correctly identifying the right choice of colours
will lead to a better overall image, while the wrong colours will make one
look older, tired or sickly.
After observing the participants’ attire, she provided helpful comments
on how to improve their choice of clothing, shoes and accessories. The
participants gained tips from discussions on the various types of dressing
(business formal, semi-formal, business casual, and suitable dressdown outfits) as well as the many textures of fabrics designed to suit
respective body shapes.
The workshop also included role plays with participants
polishing their networking skills in a session on how to keep

EFFECTIVE LEADERS
LEAD THE WAY
B
ecoming an effective leader does not happen overnight. It takes time to
learn and practise leadership skills until these skills become a part of
you. Leadership begins with self-awareness because when we have a better
understanding of ourselves, we are able to experience ourselves as unique
and separate individuals. Then, we are empowered to make changes and to
build on our areas of strength as well as identify areas for improvement.
The “Becoming an Effective Leader (with Silega Commander)
Workshop” was conducted by Mr Eric Lau from Leaderonomics. It was held
on 6 and 7 November 2014 for Managers and Assistant Managers of IOI.
Silega Commander is a business simulation that helps participants unlock
their hidden potential and their organisation in order to achieve sustainable
growth. It is used to identify their performance and challenges faced in getting
the desired results, create positive change in the corporate culture, resolve
problems, and communicate effectively. It enables leaders to understand why
decisions and behaviours are often misunderstood by their followers and
learn how to maximise their influence.
It takes five levels of leaderships to become a Great Leader:
Level 1 : Highly Capable Individual – You make high quality contributions.
Level 2 : Contributing Team Member – You use your knowledge skills to help your team succeed.
Level 3 : Competent Manager – You are able to organise a group effectively to achieve specific goals and objectives.
Level 4 : Effective Leader – You are able to galvanise a department or organisation to meet performance objectives and achieve a vision.
Level 5 : Great Leader – You have the requisite abilities and humility required for true greatness.

NEW SUSTAINABLE
PALM OIL POLICY
FOR IOILC
O
n 14 November 2014, IOI Loders Croklaan (IOILC) introduced
a new and strengthened Sustainable Palm Oil Policy, which
supersedes its existing policy. The new policy, effective immediately,
ensures:
1. No deforestation through the conservation of High Carbon
Stock (HCS) forests and the protection of peat areas regardless
of the depth;
2. Building a traceable and transparent supply chain;
3. Respecting the rights of employees, indigenous peoples and
local communities;
4. Increased focus on driving beneficial economic change and
ensuring a positive social impact on people and communities.
IOILC Sustainability Director Mr Ben Vreeburg said: “We felt it
was necessary to work towards ensuring our Sustainable Palm
Oil requirements were set out more clearly than in our existing
Sustainable Palm Oil Sourcing Practices. Our new policy leaves no
room for differences in interpretation and is better aligned with
recent market and stakeholders’ requirements.”
Implementation
IOILC’s commitment to sustainable practices affects the company’s
entire supply chain, from the choice of its suppliers of palm (kernel)
oil to how it operates its refineries. The policy also applies to all its
suppliers of palm oil, palm oil fractions and palm kernel oil.
strongly believe that a multi-stakeholder approach is the right way
forward to transform the palm oil sector. We will continue to work
with various stakeholders including our suppliers, customers, nongovernmental organisations (NGOs), governments and independent
verification bodies to implement our policy,” said Vreeburg.
Development
The policy is an additional step in IOILC’s commitment to support
a sustainable and transparent supply chain. The company was:
1. The first to supply sustainable palm oil to continental Europe
(2010);
2. The first to supply sustainable palm oil to the United States
(2011);
3. The first to supply its entire portfolio as RSPO (Roundtable on
Sustainable Palm Oil) mass balance (2012);
4. As of October 2014, 96% of the palm oil sourced worldwide is
traceable (list of mills);
5. From June 2013 to September 2014, IOILC has purchased
545,000 tons of RSPO-certified palm oil.
IOILC will continue to be an active supporter of RSPO and will
work to strengthen the RSPO standard and its enforcement.

IOI
Loders Croklaan (IOILC) Europe achieved a
sustainable palm oil milestone with the uploading
of its millionth ton of segregated (SG) RSPO (Roundtable on
Sustainable Palm Oil)-certified palm oil in November 2014.
On 25 March 2010, IOILC was the first in continental Europe to
ever receive a SG RSPO-certified palm oil cargo. Since then IOILC
has become one of the frontrunners in the supply of sustainable
palm oil.
IOILC Sustainability Director Mr Ben Vreeburg said: “Over the past
one and a half years, we have seen a strong and continuous growth,
partly because of our active and stimulating policy and production
flexibility.
“At present, we import 53% of our European palm oil as SG RSPOcertified. This corresponds to approximately 450,000 tons of SG
RSPO-certified palm oil. The demand for sustainable palm oil has
now risen to 42% of our total demand in the last (third) quarter.”
He concluded: “We expect a continuous increase in RSPO-certified
palm oil in 2015.This is due to a growing belief that sustainable palm
oil is the only right thing to buy, which is a sentiment that we fully
support. New EU labelling legislation (2015) and a growing demand
for traceable supply chains are other key factors for growth.”

• To be the preferred palm-based oils and fats supplier to food
and infant formula manufacturers in our focus markets;
• To be the preferred employer providing opportunities for
development and a rewarding career;
• To live a culture of teamwork with ownership, where people
listen with openness and strategies are clearly communicated.

Christmas
FANTASY
THE
NUTCRACKER
T
he origin of the Nutcracker, a classic Christmas story, is a fairytale
ballet centred on a family’s Christmas Eve celebration. The story
revolves around a young girl’s coming of age and awakening to romantic
love. In conjunction with Christmas, shoppers at IOI Mall Puchong were
invited to “The Nutcracker Christmas Fantasy” and enjoyed festive
activities such as Santa Claus appearances with candy and lollipop
giveaways, and carolling performances held from 20 to 27
December 2014.
Continuing previous years’ tradition, IOI Mall Puchong
organised the “Heavenly Gift with Community at
Heart” charity project to spread love and Christmas
spirit towards the poor families and orphans in
Puchong. From 5 to 23 December 2014, shoppers
picked gifts for the underprivileged at the Gift Trees
located near the main entrance. Shoppers also took
the opportunity to have their gifts wrapped at the
Heavenly Gift Counter.
All in all, it was one Christmassy affair at IOI Mall
Puchong!
SafeCar @ IOI Mall with MAI
The objective of the campaign, which will be held nationwide in
2015, is to raise awareness on road safety and to reduce death and
injury on Malaysian roads through safer vehicles, safer drivers and
safer roads. MAI Chief Executive Officer En M Madani Sahari, who
was present to launch the campaign together with government
officials, said:“Our challenge is to move towards zero-fatality and
serious injury collisions, where the price of mobility is not death
or disability; that is why we have chosen the campaign slogan, A
Car Should Mobilise, Not Paralyse.”
M
alaysia Automotive Institute (MAI), an agency under the
Ministry of International Trade and Industry, recently launched
the “SafeCar @ IOI Mall with MAI” which ran from 5 to 7
December 2014 at IOI Mall Puchong.
The car safety campaign was supported by Proton and Perodua,
the two national car manufacturers in Malaysia, as well as
government agencies such as Jabatan Keselamatan Jalan Raya,
Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS), and Ministry
of Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism.

A “MAGICAL
CHRISTMAS”
CHARITY DAY
T
he season of joy brought festive cheer to 72 underprivileged
children from Rumah Hope and Rumah Anak-Anak Yatim
Nasuhah who enjoyed a fun-filled day, thanks to a collaborative effort
by Putrajaya Marriott Hotel, Palm Garden Hotel and IOI City Mall.
The effort, in line with Marriott’s global vision of “Spirit to Serve
our Communities” and IOI Properties Group Berhad’s CSR initiative,
was geared at letting each child experience a “magical Christmas” by
making them feel special and cared for, simply by being themselves.
The day was centered on play and physical activity as well as good
food and poolside fun.
Upon arrival at IOI City Mall, the children were grouped into Team
Elsa and Team Olaf, named after characters in the popular Disney
cartoon, Frozen. Both teams were given the opportunity to spend an
hour at “District21” where they enjoyed the trampoline and activities
such as the tubby ride and carousel, followed by another hour of
learning to skate at the Olympic-sized “Icescape Ice Rink” with the
help of volunteers.
After a tremendous amount of exercise, the children were brought
over to the Palm Garden Hotel for a sumptuous lunch. Hotel Manager
Cik Zarilla Bashir and team welcomed the little guests with a host
of activities including presenting them with Christmas gifts. The
children were also entertained by the popular Putrajaya Marriott
Hotel’s carollers, d’Flaming Reindeers, who sang classic Christmas
jingles such as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Jingle Bells,
Winter Wonderland and Santa Claus is Coming to Town – with
Santa himself making a grand appearance, much to the children’s
delight! A special song titled I’ll Be There was a poignant reminder
of the need to create a more caring and giving world.
After lunch, the children headed over to Putrajaya Marriott Hotel
to watch a movie and play games in the Langkawi function room
which was transformed into a playland. Helium balloons hanging
from the ceiling were tied with snack packages for the children to
grab and munch on as “Yoyo the Clown” showed off his balloon
tricks. Those who preferred to continue playing were encouraged
to join in some games or solve a puzzle or two. Hotel Senior
General Manager Mr Simon Yong gave out gifts and pocket money
to each child and caregiver.
The day ended with a splashing time at the hotel’s lagoon-shaped
pool. It was indeed a day of fun, surprises, joy and most would say,
magic!

on Tour for
the 9th Year!
P
utrajaya Marriott Hotel’s resident carollers d’Flaming Reindeers
once again brought the Christmas spirit to the hotel’s valued
clients and media friends. This is the ninth year d’Flaming
Reindeers have gone on tour to corporations such as Shell IT, AMD
Global Services,The Star and New Straits Times.
This year, d’Flaming Reindeers proved to be as popular as before
with bookings and requests filling up their schedule in a short time.
They had 10 engagements lined up, including a special performance
at the home of the US Ambassador.
Other memorable performances included singing live on radio
station TRAXXfm and serenading the delegates of Miss Tourism
International 2014 at the hotel’s festively-decorated lobby.
Its Christmas repertoire included popular classics such as Rudolph
the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Jingle Bell Rock, Winter Wonderland,
and Santa Claus is Coming to Town. A special song, I’ll Be There,
was also sung to remind all of the Christmas spirit of love for one
another.
BRINGING THE
FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS
TO CHARITY HOME
The residents were delighted with the simple yet lavish buffet
dinner prepared by the hotel. They tucked in dishes such
as butter prawns, roast lamb and an array of desserts which
thrilled the children. The hotel’s management and staff took
the opportunity to mingle with the residents while entertaining
the younger ones with balloons and games. Everyone was a
good sport in playing the Mystery Box game: once the music
stopped, the person left holding the box had to draw a forfeit
slip and carry out tasks such as singing or impersonating funny
characters which drew laughter from the participants.
The charity event ended on a high note, albeit all too soon, as
the children had to prepare for school the following day.
O
n 30 October 2014, Palm Garden Hotel
celebrated Deepavali with 32 residents
of Pusat Jagaan Ribuan Kasih in Kajang.
It was the hotel’s first venture away from
its usual ballroom setting to bring food

consisting of 26 children and six senior
citizens, at their home.
