Here at Denby, we pride ourselves
on the strength and exceptional
craftsmanship of our pottery, which
we’ve been making in England for
over 200 years. We still source our
super strong Derbyshire clay
from just behind our factory as we
did centuries ago. And using
time-honoured skills and traditions,
we turn it by hand into beautiful
stoneware.
Today we continue to go from
strength to strength, crafting timeless
collections that exude English
heritage and seeking out current
trends to create modern ones.
And we don’t stop at stoneware.
Our design team also source equally
hard-wearing materials to create
a stunning range of china, glass and
accessories, that are sourced from
our overseas partners.
Four generations back, artists in Derbyshire
became pottery pioneers when they
used their skills to turn strong clay into the famous
Denby collections we love today.
It all started in 1809 with a stroke
of luck. While digging up the roads
around Denby, a seam of clay
was uncovered. Local entrepreneur
William Bourne happened to
be passing and noticed something
special about it – it was extremely
good quality and incredibly strong.
This got him thinking...
William soon set up a factory
employing local craftsmen and
women. Using this amazing clay they
kicked off the tradition of jollying,
fettling and handcrafting.
They also invented secret glaze
recipes, that when fired to the right
temperature, give each piece
its unique and durable surface.
We’re proud that their skills and
attention to detail are still very much
alive. We now have over 5000 glazes
and a growing range of distinctive
colours, shapes and patterns –
all hand finished, so no piece is ever
exactly the same. In fact, only after
being passed through 25 pairs of
hands is each piece then awarded
the Denby seal of approval.

Reviving the spirit of
1950s Britain, moreish

retro graphic motifs,

Digging through our archives we
stumbled across these wonderful
vintage patterns and had to
bring them back. Using the strongest
clay locally sourced from the
fields by our factory, our craftsmen
have reinvented a special new
speckle that’s equally long-lasting.
With shades of mint macaroon,
lemon sorbet and a touch of rustic
warm copper you can easily
recreate a relaxed homely kitchen
feel with true artisan quality.

VERANDA
The eclectic pattern
of an iconic design

In the 60s we launched our Arabesque
oven-to-tableware range. The design
was highly decorative and a true
reflection of the aesthetics of the time.
Now a new generation of craftsmen
are masterfully updating this collection
from our strong heritage. The Veranda
range retains its bold folk-style patterns
while also introducing a harmonious
earthy palette of buttery yellows, soft
sage and refreshing duck egg.

Care and use
Ovens and Microwaves
Denby can definitely stand the heat! Use it
with confidence in the oven and microwave,
but please do not expose to direct heat
sources such as the hob or grill.
Stoneware
Our stoneware clay is very strong.
It’s fully vitrified which gives
it strength, durability and chip
resistance. All 5000 of our beautiful
glazes are totally unique and each
one has its very own secret recipe.
Porcelain*
Similar in strength to stoneware,
porcelain has a more translucent
body and a cool blue-white colour.
Our stunning porcelain ranges (White
and James Martin) are sleek, stylish
and make any food look fantastic.
Bone China*
Bone china has a pure white
translucency and is also fully vitrified,
so like our stoneware it’s surprisingly
tough. Not just for afternoon tea,
our bone china has contemporary
shapes and gourmet pieces to bring
china bang up to date.
Fine China*
Our Monsoon fine china is soft cream
in colour and is also fully vitrified,
so as you would expect from Denby
it’s functional and versatile as well as
being beautiful and elegant.
Freezers
Great for storing food in the freezer.
Just remember that all tableware can crack
if exposed to sudden changes in temperature,
so please don’t take items from the freezer
and put them straight into the oven
or microwave.
Dishwashers
Hand washing your Denby will ensure you
keep our amazing colours and glazes as
fresh as the day they were made. All Denby
stoneware can be used in the dishwasher,
however like all ceramics due to changes in
temperature, types of cleaner used and water,
it will eventually result in discolouration.
As we can't control these when in use at home
we can not offer any additional guarantees.

Take care in stacking and handling, as
scratches are more visible on coloured glazes.
