Homecoming 2013 Page 1 Pawnee Indian Veteran’s 67th Annual Homecoming and represented the Pawnee Nation as a member of the Color Guard. In the Veterans organization, St. Elmo served as president, flag man and arena director. He was well known throughout Indian country as an arena director, a position he currently held for the Pawnee Veterans. The Homecoming held at Memorial Field, offered many activities including dance contests for all ages, the Hawk Chief Run, Inter-Tribal War Dances, men’s Grass/Traditional, Fancy and Straight Dances and women’s Fancy Shawl/ Jingle, Buckskin and Cloth Dances. Events held on Friday, July 5, included the selection of Anna Pratt as the 2013-2014 Homecoming Princess. Hope Libbie Ann Harjo currently serves as the Pawnee Nation Princess. The Mose YellowHorse Softball Tournament and the Homecoming Parade activated the activities for Saturday, July 6. Unique offerings held throughout the Homecoming included a Special-Honor Contest sponsored by the 20122013 Veterans Princess Judiki Sheree Dah-Tah-Hay Moses, a Special Men’s Straight Dance Contest sponsored by Head Singer Herb Adson and a Senior Women’s Buckskin and Senior Men’s Straight Dance sponsored by Pawnee Tribal Development Corporation. The Homecoming officers and staff are as follows: President David Echo Hawk, Vice President Pius Spottedhorsechief, Treasurer/Secretary Ashley Scott-Ohman, Drum Keeper Darrell Wildcat, Arena Director, Beaushee Wildcat, Arena Director Adrian Spottedhorsechief, Master of Ceremony Warren Pratt, Jr., Head Singer Herb Adson, 2012-2013 Princess Judiki Moses, Hawk Chief Run Ned Williams, Parade Marshall Austin Realrider, Flag Man Curtis Arkeketa and Water Boy Paydon Moore. The Homecoming Chiefs were Gene Evans (Skidi), William Howell (Pitahawirata, Lynn Eaves (Kitkehahki) and Larry Goodfox (Chaui). Tail Dancers were Pete Moore, Jr. and Walter “Bunky” R. Echo Hawk, Jr., who also served as the Whip Man. Men’s Cooks were Steven Moore, Steven Moore, Jr. and Once Lawrence Mann. Women’s Cooks were Stella Moore, Lily Harms, Roberta Ahdunko and Tiffany Frietze. The Nasharo Council, also known as the "Chiefs Council" are as follows. Nasharo Head Chief Warren Pratt, Jr., Chaui Band members Jimmy Horn and Mat Reed; Kitkehahki Band associates Morgan LittleSun and Ralph Haymond; Skidi Band members Warren Pratt, Jr. and Pat Leading Fox, Sr. and Pitahawirata Band comrades Francis Morris and Lester Sun Eagle. Photo by Toni Hill The Pawnee Indian Veteran’s 67th Annual Homecoming (Homecoming) held July 4 – 7 honored veterans from all areas and eras of service including the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Army, the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard. U.S. Flags were raised in honor of Herbert Morris, U.S. Army, on July 4; in celebration of Wilson Moore, U.S. Navy, on July 5; in respect for Alvin “Ugh” Echo Hawk, U.S. Navy, on July 6 and in honor of Eugene Peters, U.S. Army on July 7. The Homecoming booklet was dedicated to St. Elmo Wilde (July 24, 1943 - Nov. 26, 2012). According to his obituary published in the Dec. 2012 Chaticks si Chaticks as received by the Pawnee Chief, Wilde served as a Petahawirata Band chief on the Nasharo Council of the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma. He also served as president of the Pawnee Indian Veterans Organization Pitahawirata Veteran Chief and Vietnam Veteran (66-67) William Howell carries the Pawnee Nation Flag; Pfc. Kent Marland, Marine 4th Tank BTN, holds the U.S. Flag and Cpl. Kent Vincent, who served two tours Iraq until July 22 2013, carries the Oklahoma Flag signifying the beginning of the 2013 Homecoming ceremonies on Saturday, July 6. The Plains Indian tribes called the Pawnee “Wolves” because of their cunning and courage. Thus, the emblem of the wolf was created and retained the double meaning of “Chaticks si Chaticks” or Men of Men. Designed by Brummett EchoHawk.
