The report, “America’s Best Health Plans,” also stated that the Health Plan was the highest ranked plan in Pennsylvania for the second year in a row. The rankings, which include more than 320 plans, are based on a combination of clinical performance, member satisfaction, and NCQA accreditation status. The Health Plan registered the top scores statewide in several measures of care, including women’s health (timeliness of prenatal and postpartum care), children’s health (access to primary care physicians for age groups 25 months to 6 years, 7 to 11 years, and 12 to 19 years), and appropriate use of antibiotics and treatment for sore throat in children. UPMC Health Plan was also highest ranked in the state in several behavioral health categories: Where is it ? • antidepressant medication management — optimal practitioner contacts • antidepressant medication management — effective continuation phase treatment e-Procurement enhances purchasing process • follow-up after hospitalization for mental illness within 30 days Recently, UPMC Health Plan also received the top score nationwide in breast cancer screening for the third consecutive year. This means Health Plan female members were screened for breast cancer at a higher rate than were members of any other surveyed health plan in the United States. “We’re so pleased to be among the top 10 health plans in the nation and the highest ranked plan in the state,” says Diane Holder, president of UPMC Health Plan and the UPMC Insurance Services Division.“In partnership with our providers, we place special emphasis on the high quality of our preventive programs and it shows in these outstanding results. Our members are receiving the highest caliber of care available, which has a lasting impact on the health of the community.” You may log on to My HUB from home or work at any computer with Internet access, and you may edit your elections as often as needed before Nov. 17. If you experience problems logging on to My HUB, contact the UPMC Help Desk at 412-647-HELP (4357). Benefit questions should be directed to the UPMC Employee Service Center at 1-800-994-2752, option 3. D o you often wonder what happened to the requisition that you faxed? Perplexed about when payment will be submitted to a vendor? Not sure where to find inventory catalogues? UPMC Supply Chain Management is launching e-Procurement (e-Pro), a user-friendly online system that streamlines the entire purchasing process, from requisition through payment. UPMC’s e-Pro is a module of Peoplesoft, accessed via My HUB, making it available to staff designated as requesters at work, at home, or anywhere there’s a computer with Internet access. When a requester enters an order for goods or services, e-Pro will automatically route it for electronic approval. Through e-Pro, users will be able to use online catalogues of materials that are “preferred,” for which UPMC can negotiate lower prices based on the large volume purchased systemwide. Also, e-Pro integrates purchasing, accounts payable, and general ledger modules, so it will allow you to track your order through the purchasing process. You’ll be able to view purchase orders (along with who approved them and when), receipts, invoices, and payments. Currently in use at UPMC St. Margaret, UPMC Braddock, UPMC McKeesport, UPMC South Side, UPMC Bedford Memorial, UPMC Horizon, and Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, e-Pro is being phased into use at a few hospitals and business units at a time, with systemwide implementation envisioned by spring 2007. The positive effects are definitely being felt at UPMC St. Margaret, the first UPMC site to implement e-Pro. “It’s been very successful here,” says Cindy Dorundo, vice president of finance at that hospital. “e-Pro has reduced a lot of redundancies because people don’t have to make follow-up calls to see if their requisitions were received. And it has really expedited the approval process.” dramatically improving Besides requisition tracking, e-Pro speeds the requisition process, facilitates budgetary control, and drives data accuracy. “The current e-Pro deployment is the first step in a comprehensive electronic procurement strategy that will continue to develop over the coming months,” explains Jim Szilagy, UPMC’s chief supply chain officer. “Supply Chain Management’s focus is to create an optimized buying process enabled by technology that is user-friendly, efficient, and controlled.” 2 KEEP YOUR BENEFICIARY INFORMATION UP TO DATE Do you know who would receive the proceeds of your group life insurance policies through UPMC if something were to happen to you? Open Enrollment, under way until 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, is the perfect opportunity to review and update your beneficiary designations so that your loved ones receive the proceeds that your coverage provides. When reviewing your elections for Open Enrollment, take the time to update your beneficiary information. If you have designated beneficiaries through My HUB in the past, you will see those designations in the Covered Beneficiaries box. If you do not see any beneficiaries listed or you want to change who is listed, select the Add/Review Beneficiaries button to enter those changes. Detailed printable instructions are available online in My HUB to assist you. UPMC provides basic life and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance to eligible full-time, flexible full-time, and job-share staff in an amount equal to their base salary. Eligible part-time staff are provided $10,000 in basic life and AD&D coverage. Eligible staff also can purchase additional supplemental life and AD&D insurance for themselves and eligible dependents during Open Enrollment. Put more money in your pocket FSAs remain viable option to lower your taxes in 2007 F lexible spending accounts (FSAs) are a great way to reduce your taxable income and set money aside to pay for health care and/or dependent care expenses. FSA deductions are taken from your pay on a pretax basis, which reduces your taxable income. You pay less in taxes and have money set aside to pay for your out-ofpocket expenses. By establishing a health care FSA, the funds deducted from your pay are available for you to cover the cost of eligible medical, dental, or other health care expenses for you and your immediate family members. Copays for office visits, prescription drugs, and over-the-counter medications can be paid for with a health care FSA. You can use a dependent care account to pay for day care expenses for your children under age 13 while you work or attend school. A dependent care FSA also can be used to pay for eligible elder care expenses. IRS modifies FSA debit card guidelines The ADP FlexDirect debit card has made it more convenient to access your FSA dollars and pay for eligible expenses at the point of sale. However, updated Internal Revenue Service (IRS) guidelines will change the way staff can use FSA debit cards. Beginning Jan. 1, 2007, cardholders will experience an increase in the number of instances when they will be asked to submit receipts to ADP FlexDirect, the FSA administrator, even for purchases that have been made in the past without substantiation, such as refills for prescription drugs. It is critical that you save your receipts for all FSA card transactions and submit your receipts to ADP when requested in order to document your claim. If documentation is not received by ADP in the requested timeframe, the transaction will be deemed an ineligible expense, and you will be required to reimburse the plan. Additionally, the FlexDirect cards will be limited to those businesses designated as health care-related merchants and to those vendors who use a special reporting system to identify items purchased. Health care-related merchants include physician offices, dental offices, hospitals, and most pharmacies. It is unclear if the debit cards will be accepted at pharmacies located within a retail store. Currently, the majority of nonhealth care-related retailers do not report the necessary information to identify the items purchased so that the transaction can be verified as an eligible purchase from an FSA. As in the past, eligible expenses can always be submitted for reimbursement using a paper claim. While this may reduce the convenience a little, the tax savings remain the same. UPMC continues to work with ADP to streamline the documentation process and to reduce the number of receipts that you will need to submit to ADP. For more information on enrolling in an FSA or changes on the use of the debit card, review your customized Open Enrollment information available through My HUB or log on to the Benefits section of UPMC Infonet (http://benefits.infonet.upmc.com). Any woman between the ages of 35 and 65 may find herself suddenly living with symptoms that were the punch lines of yesterday’s jokes or the catalyst for giggles by younger generations. For most women, the route approaching midlife is similar — but once a woman reaches midlife, the map is not as straightforward. Symptoms can range in severity and timing of onset may differ. But when symptoms do occur, there is now a resource offered by a group of clinical experts who specialize in perimenopause and menopause: the Women’s Midlife Health Center at Magee-Womens Hospital. The Women’s Midlife Health Center offers a holistic approach to perimenopause and menopause, encompassing expertise in gynecology, internal medicine, reproductive endocrinology, cardiology, complementary and alternative medicine, gastroenterology, and psychiatry. The experts offer consultation and treatment to women with simple or complex midlife symptoms and associated health conditions that may be exacerbated by midlife. Treatment is not the only option for menopause. Education is a key component in steering midlife women toward optimal health. Information related to women’s health is available at the on-site Women’s Resource Center at Magee-Womens Hospital and through educational venues such as UPMC’s “Alive & Well” speaker series, and public health screenings are scheduled throughout the year. Women’s Midlife Health Center staff may help coordinate physician visits with tests or other exams that may be prescribed, including mammograms, DEXA scans (to check bone density), blood tests, and ultrasounds. All these tests are available at Magee-Womens Hospital. In one day and one convenient place, it is possible to see all of the experts it would normally take three or four weeks to access. Experts at the Women’s Midlife Health Center know women better. For women who encounter midlife health issues, there is no need to feel lost or alone. This timely and intelligent medical approach offers the means to move forward with confidence into the next phase of life. Newly arrived in Pittsburgh 18 months ago, Ms. Thames, who had been running since late college, was looking for a way to meet people and get involved in the community. TNT offered the opportunity to train with a group, receive coaching and a personalized training plan, and help raise money for a good cause. “My grandmother passed away from lymphoma,” says Ms. Thames. “This was a win-win-win situation — I met people who shared my hobby, received coaching help to better prepare me for the marathon, and was able to support an organization that is helping others with lymphoma.” While Ms. Thames ran a marathon, Team in Training also offers support for people who want to participate in a triathlon or century (100-mile) bike ride. People of all experience levels — from beginners to lifelong athletes — are welcome. TNT representatives also assist participants in the fund-raising aspect of the program. “The support offered by the coaches and training partners made it a wonderful, unique experience,” says Ms. Thames. “I encourage anyone who is interested to check it out.” Want to learn more about Team in Training? Quitters wanted for Great American Smokeout I t’s true: Quitters win. But when it comes to smoking, quitters may need help. The support of friends and family during an attempt to quit smoking can mean a great deal. That’s the message UPMC Health Plan wants to get out in conjunction with the American Cancer Society’s 30th annual Great American Smokeout on Thursday, Nov. 16. In partnership with UPMC and several of its business units, UPMC Health Plan will support the Smokeout by offering special presentations and exhibits throughout the week. Watch for information on your campus about these events. The Health Plan also is encouraging nonsmokers to become Smokeout “partners,” by providing support and positive reinforcement for a friend’s efforts to quit. Call the UPMC Health Plan health coaches at 1-800-807-0751 for tips on providing positive support. If you are ready to quit, it is important to know that the right mix of support, planning, and perhaps medication can help you quit for good, regardless of how many times you have tried.
