BHF Newsletter 12-15.indd - Brazosport Health Foundation
Brazosport Health Foundation, building philanthropic support
for Brazosport Regional Health System.
December 2015
As I reflect back on all of BRHS’s accomplishments during 2015, I feel that we continue to raise
the bar and reach new heights in our service to the community. We continually strive to live out
our mission of Healthcare with Excellence and Compassion.
During 2015, we continued the renovations of our physical plant. We have completed the
replacement of the windows in the bed tower, which will result in improved energy efficiency.
We are well into the construction of a new emergency room, which should be open for use
in the spring of 2016. We have also begun to renovate the 4th floor, turning these rooms into
private suites, and upon completion in mid-2016, will be the new home for our Telemetry unit.
We continue to strive for excellent customer service, and 2015 saw us significantly improve our
service scores in the emergency room and inpatient units over last year.
On the clinical side, we continue to work to ensure our results can be benchmarked with
hospitals across the state. This collaborative effort with our physicians means that when you
receive medical care at BRHS, it is consistent with best practices across the state. We are
especially proud of our designation as a center of excellence in minimally invasive gynecologic
surgery, and also our work this year to attain designation as a primary stroke center.
None of our accomplishments are ever achieved in a vacuum. We enjoy a strong partnership
with our community stakeholders, and the friends of the Brazosport Health Foundation are
some of our strongest supporters. Through your gifts of time, talent, and treasure, we have
had one of the most successful years in our history. We accomplished the monumental feat of
exceeding our goal of raising $5 million in pledges towards our Cornerstone of Caring Capital
Campaign. This remarkable achievement helped to ensure that we would be able to continue
our facility renovations, which will be utilized by our community for decades to come. This
campaign was successful because we had all aspects of our philanthropic community involved—
industry, other private foundations, physicians, community members, and employees.
Finally, I want to close by looking forward—what’s next for BRHS? Of course we will continue
to work on enhancing our services to the community, in the physical setting, the clinical care,
and our customer service. All of these aspects need to continue to improve; we can never be
satisfied with the status quo. To help ensure a bright future for our hospital as our national
healthcare sector undergoes rapid change, we continue to be engaged in seeking a strong
partner for alignment. We are nearing the end of this process and hope to make a formal
announcement soon.
Thank you for all you have done in partnership with BRHS, we truly appreciate your support.

Assemble the smartest and most dedicated people, give them the resources and facilities
they need, and they’ll change the face of philanthropy. Looking back over 2015 with a sense
of great pride and a renewed sense of caring for our hospital, the Foundation’s Board of
Directors, the Cornerstone of Caring Capital Campaign Committee and Power of the Pur$e
Committee raised over $5,600,000 for BRHS.
Access to health care is essential to all people. It is only natural that the people who can benefit from our hospital services
will take the lead in supporting their community hospital. To our campaign committee who actively participated
in raising funds and to all of our community members who actively gave through donations, sponsorships and event
attendance, this newsletter is dedicated to you.
Brazosport Health Foundation is committed to advancing BRHS through philanthropy and 2015 is a year the entire
community came together to support excellent and compassionate health care.

Dr. Bruce Meyers, Co Chair of the Capital
Campaign, is extremely proud of the local doctors’
generous response to the campaign as it is the
largest physician giving in the history of the
hospital. Through letter writing, direct phone calls
and one to one meetings, the Physicians Leadership
Society gave $189,600. “It’s very simple,” explained
Dr. Meyers, “our physicians have compassion for
those in need of healing care. We see the value of
giving back to our community in many ways – in
this case to BRHS capital improvements – and we
are pleased to join the other community leaders
and members in giving to the Cornerstone of
Caring Capital Campaign”.
