Showcasing a Fulfilling Life at Heron Bay www.heronbayinfo.com I LONG, AS DOES EVERY HUMAN BEING, TO BE AT HOME WHEREVER I FIND MYSELF “ – MAYA ANGELOU Knowing that a picture paints a thousand words, Heron Bay’s marketing team wanted to have an engaging, up-to-date site that tells the story of the active, vibrant lifestyle that more than 960 residents enjoy here every day. “When the community opened in 2004, Heron Bay’s website was state-of-the-art,” said Stacy Patton – Managing Director of development, Minerva Properties. “But the internet has come a long way, and we wanted to engage families, friends and followers on an entirely new level. Creating this new site was the culmination of that desire.” The dynamic new website serves up fresh content daily. With its new features and functionality in the Community Association section, as well as compelling photographs of current families and friends enjoying Heron Bay’s vast amenities, the site is a magnet for community interaction. Potential residents can now shop for a new home using an interactive home finder. The savvy system allows users to “window shop” by selecting desired features to quickly and easily narrow choices. Browsing by number of bedrooms, price point, and even lot type makes the search for a dream house easy and quick. It’s both engaging and fun to see just what the system displays to meet the needs of each shopper and it’s fun to explore what’s available. Additionally, beginning in January 2012, residents will be able to pay their HOA assessments online and today can download various agreements, documents and forms that simply need a signature for the Heron Bay Community Association management office. So, take a look at this week’s features – whether it’s about the homegrown vegetables for sale at the Heron Bay Farmer’s Market, an upcoming golf tournament to raise funds for a Heron Bay resident stricken with leukemia, or a beautiful new home under construction from one of the community’s award-winning builders. The new website now showcases to the world what the residents of Heron Bay have always known -- life can be lived to the fullest here. Neighborhood News, page 7 HERON BA Y BREEZE FA LL 2011 Breast Cancer Awareness Month The intuition of Heron Bay resident, Mrs. Shondia Sabari, may have saved her life. Mrs. Sabari lives in Meadow Glen with her two small children and husband, Army Major Wali Sabari. The wife and mother decided to get a mammogram, even though she was only 36 years old. Diagnosed just two days before Christmas 2010, she and her family were shocked and devastated. Shondia had no lumps, no discomfort and no symptoms to suggest breast cancer. At Mrs. Sabari's age, mammograms are not regularly performed unless there is a family history. Shondia was not aware of a family history of breast cancer at the time. "I had no symptoms. It was a simple thought that popped in my head," said Shondia. She accredits her strong faith and the presence of the Holy Spirit that prompted her to schedule a mammogram the very day after the thought came to her. Two weeks later, Mrs. Sabari was diagnosed with breast cancer in both breasts. On February 11, 2011, she underwent a bilateral mastectomy and decided not to undergo reconstructive surgery or wear prosthesis bras. "Early detection really is important. Hopefully, I can encourage others who have been or may become diagnosed,” Mrs. Sabari says. Heron Bay Administrator and Resident Care Representative, Kim VanRoyen, is joining the fight against breast cancer as well. Kim will proudly walk 60 miles in the 2011 Atlanta 3-Day Walk for the Cure on October 21-23 to honor her mother who was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2011 at the age of 68. Kim’s mother underwent a bilateral mastectomy in June 2011, and is currently in her third round of chemotherapy. For more information about the 3-Day Walk for the Cure, or if you would like to make a donation to this worthwhile cause, please contact Kim VanRoyen at kvanroyen.heronbay@minerva-usa.com. Eat Fresh at Heron Bay It’s easy. It’s fresh. It’s better for you. Buying fresh and organically grown produce is one of the best things you can do for your family. The farm to the table trend is gaining rapid momentum as local farmers’ markets continue to grow and more families taste the difference of locally grown food. Heron Bay residents now have access to fresh produce and other delicious products that are locally grown and sold in their own community. Heron Bay is now host to the Mid-Georgia Farmer’s Market every Tuesday between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. through September. (tentative schedule) The market is set up in the Lodge lower parking lot next to the tennis courts. Come check out and support area farmers who have come together to offer naturally and organically grown produce, meat, baked goods, and more for our community. Natural and Organic Products to be offered include: • Dry Aged Angus Beef • Vegetables • Fruit • Baked Goods • Preserves • Canned Goods • Local Honey • Pork • Organic Eggs • Handmade Soaps Add color to your dinner plate, savory smells to your kitchen and vitamins to your diet. Eat locally grown products from the Mid-Georgia Farmers’ Market! P AG E 2 HERON BA Y BREEZE FA LL 2011 Resident Spotlight: Matt Still and Ginny Joiner Matt Still and Ginny Joiner recently became internet superstars when the video of Matt's wedding proposal "Making the Movies Jealous” went viral on the World Wide Web attracting more than 18 million views. Matt is a resident of Heron Bay Golf and Country Club, and we caught up with him to chat about the video, life after, the upcoming wedding, and life at Heron Bay. The Scoop on “Making the Movies Jealous” "Well," said Matt "I knew on our second date that I wanted to marry Ginny." On their second date, Matt arranged an elaborate dinner complete with romantic music, candles, and scattered rose petals, at his home where a good friend prepared a gourmet meal and served the couple. "About half-way through the dinner Ginny said that she felt like she was in the movies" commented Matt "and I said no we're making the movies jealous..." Matt continued, and said that very night he had a dream that he would in fact marry Ginny and that the proposal would take place at a movie theater. Matt said, "When I woke up the next day I called my mom and told her that I had met the woman I wanted to marry.” It was such a great idea! How did you pull it off? “All together it took about 4 months to plan” said Matt. It took a dedicated effort to ensure that all of the details were kept secret until the date was set. In addition to the production of the video trailer, and scheduling with the Great Escape Theater, Matt had to coordinate with Ginny's 20 closest friends and family members to ensure that they were a part of the surprise. “I didn't tell any of the guests the date [of the proposal] until the week before the event, and I didn't tell them the place until the day before.” said Matt. He was so concerned that all of the planning that went into the surprise would be spoiled had any one known. Did you have any idea it would become such a “viral storm”? “No way” said Matt “the only reason we put the video on YouTube was because it was too big for Facebook. I wanted to put it on Facebook for all of the family who wasn't able to be there in person.” To date the video has been viewed by more than 18 million. It was featured on the homepages of internet giants including Yahoo.com, CNN.com, and AOL.com. Matt and Ginny have done interviews with many of the major television networks, “One of the highlights was being invited to the Ellen Degeneres show for an interview” said Matt. Life has definitely changed for Matt and Ginny, they are often recognized in public and have had the opportunity to meet some incredible people, one of whom was one of Ginny's favorite celebrity event planners David Tutera. Community Support Speaking of community, Matt and Ginny made it very clear that they are thrilled with the support they have received from not only Heron Bay, but the local community as well. They truly believe in supporting the local community which is why the couple has decided to keep their wedding local. “We received offers from all over the world, but we decided to have our wedding locally, right in our home town” said Matt. The couple decided to select all vendors as a tribute to that belief. The wedding will be held at The Hazelhurst House, and the rehearsal dinner at the Seasons Bistro on McDonough Square. They are still in the planning stages, but did mention that they also plan on holding a bridal shower here in Heron Bay. Matt and Ginny are a down- to-earth couple full of southern charm. It was a pleasure to hear their story and laugh about Matt's secret talent (you'll have to watch the Heron Bay interview video on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LO8kx1HyUFY) Toward the end of the interview, the couple was asked to described our community at Heron Bay in three words. “Family, safe, fun,” said Matt. Ginny nodded her head in agreement, and said “He hit the nail on the head.” Connect with Matt and Ginny at www.mattandginny.com. Life at Heron Bay You may see Matt and Ginny around the community as they both mentioned the pool as one of their favorite Heron Bay amenities. They also enjoy the tennis courts, and Lakefront Park. Matt mentioned that they had been so busy recently with all of the media interest that they hadn't had a chance to check out the weekly farmers market held in the lower lot of the Lodge, but that he knew Ginny would love it! “She's in to all that kind of stuff” he said. “And after the wedding - once Ginny has moved in” he said “I'd love to get her out for a run on the nature trails. She hasn't even seen them yet.” P AG E 3 HERON BA Y BREEZE FA LL 2011 WHO TO CONTACT HERON BAY COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION Sheila Wolfe Manager 678.432.7790 swolfe.heronbay@minerva-usa.com Kim VanRoyen HOA Resident Care 678.432.7790 kvanroyen.heronbay@minerva-usa.com Mikala Carver Marketing & Events Manager 770.957.5633 mcarver.heronbay@minerva-usa.com Shelley Warren Events Coordinator & Sales Administrator 770.957.5633 swarren.heronbay@minerva-usa.com Upcoming Heron Bay Events...
