Millcreek Needs Volunteers
At our last grant meeting at Millcreek High School
in September, it was mentioned that the nursery
currently has six babies with more arriving soon. Due
to an illness of a staff member, the nursery is shorthanded. If interested in helping out in the school's
nursery for an hour or more when your schedule
allows, contact the school and arrange a time to lend a
hand. Mostly what is needed is someone to sit and
rock
the
babies.
The
school
is
open Monday through Thursday on the regular
school calendar.
The school's phone number is 435 628-2462, press
#2, ask for Amber, the counselors' secretary. Identify
yourself as an Elk, LOE, or spouse/widow of an Elk
and that you wish to volunteer in the nursery. (No
background check is necessary since you will be with
a school staff person while in the nursery.)
The school is located next to the Johnson Dinosaur
Museum at 2410 E. Riverside Drive. If you have
questions, call Betty Archambault at the Lodge.

THANKSGIVING DAY
NOVEMBER 24
EXALTED RULER MESSAGE
The holiday months are upon us. We
have
Halloween,
Thanksgiving,
Christmas, and New Year’s all coming
up. Make sure you check our Lodge
calendar for all the dinners and special
events in the next few months.
We have put together a Christmas committee to approve
all the decorating for this holiday. If you are going to put up
a tree or decorate the Lodge, you MUST get approval from
this committee before do anything. This committee was put
together to alleviate some of the issues we have had in years
past. So get a hold of Lucy Rezendes, our Leading Knight,
as she is in charge of this committee.
We will be visited by our District Deputy on Tuesday,
November 8. So come to the Lodge meeting and meet him.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving. Enjoy
your family, friends and remember all our military men and
women.
Quote of the month: “You are free to choose, but you are
not free from the consequence of your choice.”
Leo Lang
“ELKS, ordinary people doing extraordinary things
together.”
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
MESSAGE
Hope everyone had a fun
Halloween. It is hard to think that the
holidays are here already.
The All Abilities Park is now
open; it is very nice to see that the
investment that the Elks made in the
park has come to light. All of you should go to the
park, wonder around and see what has been created for
all to enjoy. One of the most amazing things that I like
is as you walk into the main entrance you see all of the
hand prints. These hand prints were made by the
children in the Washington County School District with
the help of a handful of your fellow Elks. That task took
a lot of time and massive amounts of patients. A big
thank you to all who helped with this job. And also
thank you to all Elks; without you the Lodge could not
have made the donation that helped with the park.
There were a lot of donors to make the park a
reality, and it is very rewarding to see what can happen
when the community comes together. So go to the park,
take the kids, grandkids or better yet, it is a park for all
ages, Take great pride knowing that the our Lodge had a
part in helping make the All Abilities Park happen.
Lance Wright , Chair
NEWS FROM THE HOUSE COMMITTEE
We are approaching our busy time of the year with the seasonal events coming together:. (1) The
Charity Ball, mid November, to support our Christmas community charity baskets. (2) A David
Jorgensen “Lights On” Concert on Saturday, December 3 to welcome in the holidays. (3) our very
special Elks Memorial Service on Sunday, December 4.
We will have numerous outside parties that will need your help as a volunteer to set up and serve
these events. Please contact our Bar and Kitchen Manager, Suzanne Horne, if you can help out.
Remember to book Your Own Special Occasion for a wedding reception, anniversary, birthday party or just
getting a few friends together for a great time at the Lodge. Friday nights are our fun night with live entertainment, line
dancing classes, and, on occasions, our own “Julie” performing for your enjoyment.
Check the calendar of events for specific times and dates. Our bar staff works extremely hard, so please remember
to show them your appreciation.

HOBO DINNER THANK YOU!!!
A fun time was had by all at the annual ENF Hobo Dinner and Dance. Brian Kwake was crowned hobo king for his
great costume. Marlene Wildey was crowned queen for her cute Hobo Joe costume.
Thanks go out to Suzanne and her crew for another great rib dinner. Thanks to all those who brought the tasty side
dishes and desserts.
John Buza did a wonderful job explaining all the profound works of the Elks National Foundation and how it assists
Elks members in performing our charitable events.
Dinner was followed with dancing to the music of Kevin Auernig, who generously donated his time and musical
skills.
A big thank you goes out to all those who volunteered to sell tickets, serve food, and clean up the
mess. Remember, it takes many volunteers to make an event successful.
Speaking of successful, the winner of the pig weigh-in was Bill Magruder, with Linda Van Hook coming in a close
second. All those nickels and dimes add up to a successful ENF fundraiser.
Let's not forget to thank everyone who donated prizes, including Linda Van Hook, Carol Shreeve, Judy Gauthier,
and Beth Magruder. The big winner of the night was Tim Murray who carried away the Samsung Smart TV.
Hope to see you next year.
Beth Deliberto
Veterans update
We did a Halloween skit with treats for the Veterans at the Ivins Veterans Nursing Home; it was
liked and enjoyed by all.
On November 10 we are hosting a free luncheon for all Veterans (active or retired) from noon till 2 pm.
We will be decorating the Veterans Christmas tree on November 27 around 10 am.
Our Christmas Party for all Veterans (retired or active) is on December 12 from noon till 4 pm. Santa
will be there, as well as entertainment in the works. Volunteers will be needed for both events.
Since so many of you have requested that we once again do the “Who R We” show, plans are in the
works and a date will be in the December newsletter. Anyone wishing to be part of this, let me know. This
will be a Veterans fundraiser.
If you know of any military family that needs help or a Veteran that may need assistance, please let me
know.
Keep watching for updates for up-coming events.

The Dixie Ladies of Elks
The LOE are busy ladies. On September 27 the Burgers and Bingo Past Presidents Dinner
was hosted by Donna Mac Bean. It was a fun, get-acquainted function as you had to get
someone's name in every square of your bingo card. During a short meeting, Elaine Heger read
the minutes with a different pair of wacky glasses to highlight the Eye Fair on October 22. Then
Jan Tisdale presented Past President, Barbara McConnell, with her scrapbook from last year.
On October 11 President, Virginia Hansen, reminded everyone about the Eye Fair and LOE
Rummage Sale on October 22. Jayne Wright said if anyone in the family passes or is ill to let her
know so that proper cards or flowers may be sent. Jan Frisbey, Chair of the Chili Cook-off,
donned a chili covered apron to recruit help for the Cook-off.
The Witches Bewitching Brunch was a major fun day thanks to Chair Cindi Newman. All the
tickets were pre-sold and sold out. The skit and costumes and hats were outstanding. Cindi's
decor was over the top. Thanks Cindi.

INTRODUCTING THE BAR STAFF
Since April we have added over 50 new members to our Lodge. This presents a perfect opportunity to introduce our dedicated
dining room and bar staff. From left to right, Karen, Mary Lynn, Suzanne, Candy, Alana, Bobby, Julie and Kelly.
Karen is our newest member . She is quickly establishing herself
as a valued member of the team.
Karen serves members on
Fridays and Saturdays.
Mary Lynn ser ves member s on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
night, Friday and Saturday nights. She provides “Lunch with Mary
Lynn” every Tuesday from 1:00 to 4:00. Mary Lynn has been
serving members since 2014 and has been an Elk member for over
3 years. Be sure to ask her for the “Fresh Margarita.”
Suzanne is manager for both the Dining and Club Room. She
has served the lodge in various positions for over 20 years and has
been an Elk member for over 21 years. Suzanne organizes all
upcoming events, oversees the purchasing of all food and supplies,
and schedules the entertainment. In addition to managing the bar staff, she manages the large number of volunteers that so
generously offer their time and effort.
Candy has been with Dixie Lodge for mor e than ten year s.
She puts together a “Member Appreciation” lunch
every Thursday from 1:00 to 4:00. Candy also serves members on Wednesday evenings, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. She is
our most experienced bartender and is a valued member of our staff. She has been an Elk member for more than 10 years.
Alana came on boar d this past Apr il. You’ll see her behind the bar from time to time and serving cocktails in the Dining,
Club, and Lodge Rooms on Wednesday and for special events. Her friendly and outgoing personality is contagious.
Bobby does a gr eat job filling in fr om time to time at the bar . He is an avid golfer. . . just ask him about his latest round and
he will fill you in.
Julie has been with the Dixie Elks for a little over a year.
You can usually find her serving members on
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings. Also, Julie performs at the lodge the last Friday of the month and has developed a
loyal following. Come out and support our very own “Superstar!”
Kelly joined the team this past May. Typically you’ll see her serving cocktails on Wednesday and Friday nights, and at
special events. Kelly has a friendly smile, a great attitude and is here to serve all members and their guests.
When you stop by be sure to say hello and thank the staff for a job well done as they work very hard at providing our members
and guests with a pleasant experience. Remember, most of their income comes from the generous tips provided by you, the
members.
Our once a month no tap bowling tournament welcomed lots of our out of town friends who are in town to bowl in the
Huntsman Senior Games. If you didn't join us, you missed a good time with lots of familiar friends. There were 62 bowlers who
all seemed to enjoy the opportunity to practice for the games and win a few dollars by knocking down those colored pins and
picking up those splits. We had two 300 games; one by Claudia Burroughs and the other by Bill Brooks. There were many other
high scores, too.
We ask everyone who won the most money and how much for bragging rights and those two people this month were Claudia
Burroughs and Bill Brooks.
We look forward to October again next year when these friends return once again and join us in our monthly tournament
benefiting the Cliff Jones Scholarship Fund. In the mean time, please plan on joining us on November 13 for our next no tap
bowling day. We bowl at 2 pm and ask that you check in by 1:30 to sign up.
