Union Scholarship before March 5.
You belong to a truly different financial institution. One of the
major differentiators between Ascend and our competition is
our volunteer, unpaid Board of Directors. We invite you to join
us at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 28 at our Corporate Headquarters in Tullahoma for the 64th Annual Meeting and Election.
Meet the Board and join fellow members in celebrating our
cooperative spirit!
I’m excited to announce that we’re building a new, fully-branded Murfreesboro-Clark Boulevard financial center this year.
The new facility will be located exactly where the existing facility is now. And don’t worry about access while we’re building the new financial center; we’re temporarily moving across
the street to 1282 NW Broad St. We hope to be finished with
construction this September.
We’re gearing up for another great year of offering you the best
products with the best service to help you raise your possibilities. Thank you for your membership!

If you didn’t have to make mortgage payments for one year,
what would you do with the money?
Would you boost your savings? Splurge on something fun? A little of both?
One lucky member will have this delightful dilemma. Now through June 30, everyone paying an
Ascend mortgage will automatically be entered for a chance to have the credit union pay his or her
mortgage payments for one year.*
Feel at home with an Ascend mortgage. We offer a variety of rates and terms on fixed and adjustable
rate options. Pre-approval is available to increase your buying power. Plus, a mortgage increases your
loyalty with the credit union. That means if a member return is offered this year, you’ll get a larger loan
interest refund.
Get a mortgage you can live with and a shot at skipping payments for a year. Apply online at
ascendfcu.org, call 800-342-3086 or visit your nearest Ascend financial center.
*Mortgage payments not to exceed $10,000. No purchase necessary to register or win. Registration forms will be available
inside the financial centers now through June 30, 2015. If a member without an Ascend mortgage or a non member is the winner, he or she will receive an award equal in value. See official rules in a financial center for complete details. Ascend Federal
Credit Union employees, officials, and any of their family members are not eligible to enter the drawing.
Does your tv
make a statement?
What does the condition of your TV and electronic monthly
statements have in common? PLENTY.
Now through March 31, everyone who registers for e-statements from Ascend will be entered into
a drawing for a chance to win a new HDTV.*
get the picture?
An e-statement is a free, secure and environmentally friendly way to receive your monthly statement.
It’s located within password-protected E-BRANCH. Every month, you’ll receive an email letting
you know your e-statement is ready to view. Then you simply log into E-BRANCH and download
your e-statement to print or digitally store.
Register for e-statements by logging into E-BRANCH and selecting “Additional Services” then
“Online Statements.” Read the disclosure and click if you accept. When your e-statement is ready,
you’ll receive an email.
Simplify the way you receive your monthly statement and get a shot at upgrading your TV by
registering for e-statements!
*One high definition television will be awarded. No purchase necessary to register or win. Registration forms will be available
inside the financial centers now through March 31, 2015. Ascend Federal Credit Union employees, officials, and any of their family members are not eligible to enter the drawing.

Beware of Online Dating Scams!
Millions of Americans use dating sites, social networking sites, and chat rooms to meet people.
But, scammers also use these sites to meet potential victims. They create fake profiles to build
online relationships, build trust with targeted victims and eventually convince people to send
Ascend Unveils
Expedited Payment
money, which quickly disappears along with the scam artist.
We're pleased to announce a new feature within E-PAY called
expedited payment.
An expedited payment is a next day payment. You pay a small
fee to have your electronic or check payment sent more quickly than the typical three to five business days, respectively.
If an expedited payment is scheduled before the cutoff time of 6:45 p.m. CST, we will be able to deliver the payment
to your payee the following business day.
To use the expedited payment option, you must be logged in through the full Web site at ascendfcu.org (it’s not
available through the app or mobile account access). You must also click on the “E-PAY” link at the top of the page
instead of using the payment widget that looks like a check.
Click on “Options” under the “Payee Name,” which opens a new menu under the payee name. As you will see in the
screenshot, expedited payment is listed as one of the options available on the left side of the screen. Select the payment type – there is a $10 convenience fee for expedited electronic payments and $25 convenience fee for overnight
check payments. After entering the payment amount, click on the “Make payment” button to schedule the payment.
How to Recognize a Scam Artist
What You Can Do About It
The relationship may not be what you
think if you encounter these tactics:
• You’re asked to leave the dating or social
networking site immediately and use personal email or instant messaging (IM)
• Someone you’ve only just met claims
love in a heartbeat
• The new acquaintance claims to be
from the U.S. but is traveling or working overseas
• That individual plans to visit but is
prevented by a traumatic event or a
business deal gone sour
Don’t wire money to cover:
• travel
• medical emergencies
• hotel bills
• hospital bills for a child or other relative
• visas or other official documents
• or losses from a temporary financial setback
Scammers also like to say they’re out of the
country for business or military service.
Don’t send money to tide someone over after
a mugging or robbery, and don’t do anyone
a favor by making an online purchase or forwarding a package to another country. One
request leads to another, and delays and
disappointments will follow. In the end, the
money will be gone along with the person
you thought you knew.
It's that simple. Try it today!

IRS Changes Rollover
Frequency
A new requirement from the IRS will affect how often
members can roll over assets from an IRA into a new
or existing one.
For decades, the IRS allowed one IRA rollover distribution per 12-month period for each IRA someone
owned. Following a U.S. Tax Court ruling, the IRS
now says a taxpayer is limited to one rollover per
12-month period regardless of the number of IRAs
he or she has. An unlimited number of transfers can
still be performed.
Members should consult with a competent tax advisor if they will be rolling over an IRA distribution
this year.
For account transactions, you will be asked for one
form of ID. If you are opening an account or adding someone new to an existing account, you will
be asked for a photo ID as well as other information
that will allow us to identify you. Required information that must be obtained includes:
•
•
•
•
•
Name
Mailing address
Residence address (if different than the mailing address)
Social Security Number or Tax Identification Number
Date of birth
Individuals opening accounts for minors must provide ID for themselves and a Social Security card
for the child.
The USA Patriot Act requires the credit union to
maintain records of the verification and update
the information.
Confidentiality of this information will be maintained as required under the Privacy Act and all
other applicable laws and regulations.

It just took paying one bill online to convince member David Robinson
that E-PAY is the best way to pay all his bills.
Last spring, Ascend had a
contest to reimburse the total
amount of one lucky member’s
bills up to $2,000 that were set
up and paid electronically with
E-PAY in June. With one bill,
David was that lucky member.
“My first thought when I got
the call was, ‘Man! Why didn’t
I move everything to Ascend?’”
he said. David and his wife had
been considering moving more
of their financial business to Ascend earlier in the year, and they
had just begun the transition.
“It was a much welcomed and
appreciated surprise,” he said
about having an E-PAY bill reimbursed. “Just in case this contest rolls around again, I have
completed our E-PAY transi-
tion. Everything is now drafted
via E-PAY with a big smile.”
David said he and his wife pay
all of their recurring expenses
through E-PAY.
“The convenience is undeniable,” he said. “I truly appreciate the ease of use; having the
ability to receive bills; set up
auto drafts and reminders; and
having the payment history
readily available.”
He said the learning curve with
E-PAY has been minimal.
“Navigating E-PAY was really
easy,” David said. “Setting up
various payees and scheduling
payments was a breeze as the
system lists most of the utilities,
credit cards and other financial
institutions. All we needed were
the account numbers for our
various payees.”
David said he recommends EPAY to anyone who wants to
conveniently and securely pay
bills online.
“I would encourage anyone
contemplating E-PAY to at least
give it a try,” he said. “I think
they will find E-PAY very user
friendly, and the convenience,
of course, speaks for itself.
“And don’t forget about the mobile app. E-PAY is just as easy
and convenient on my mobile
as it is on my tablet.”

Simplify
Your Life with
Direct Deposit
Everyday, you’re pulled in many different directions –
work, family, friends, and more. What if there were a way
to make at least one aspect of your hectic life easier?
There is, and it’s called direct deposit. With direct deposit, your paycheck or recurring government check is
deposited directly into your savings or checking account,
which saves you a trip to the credit union. You don’t
have to worry about a lost or stolen check, and you can
monitor your account balance with our mobile app and
E-BRANCH. Best of all, direct deposit is absolutely free.
Ascend welcomes employees and members of the
following groups:

Access to safe deposit boxes will be available
beginning Jan. 19. If your safe deposit box is at
Clark Boulevard and you need access to it after
this date, visit a Member Service Representative
at the 750 S. Church St. location.
To prevent service disruptions, plans are being made
to temporarily relocate to a facility virtually across
the street at 1282 NW Broad St.
Here are some important things to keep in mind
when planning your visits to the temporary location:

Couple payroll deduction with direct deposit, and you
can do things like make saving automatic, or even get a
discount on your Ascend auto loan. In other words, direct
deposit can help you make Ascend your primary (or only)
financial institution, and that helps you get a larger
member return if one is offered at the end of the year.
>
With the exception of safe deposit boxes, the
temporary location will offer members access to
the same services they currently have at Clark
Boulevard, including night deposit, an ATM, a
drive-up, tellers, Member Service Representatives, etc.
All safe deposit boxes will be moved during the
weekend of Jan. 17 into the operations building
behind our financial center at 750 S. Church St.
>
The hours for the financial center and drive-up
will remain the same at the temporary location
as they currently are at Clark Boulevard.
>
The Ascend Retirement and Investment Services
representative will temporarily relocate to the
operations building at 750 S. Church St.
Construction on the new financial center is expected to begin this month and take approximately
eight months.
