wo weeks ago I was invited by
Andre Nagtegaal, one of Curaçao’s greatest artists, and his
wife to have a dinner at Rozendaels.
I have never been there before so I
didn’t know what to expect. What a
lovely surprise! When you’re driving in Penstraat you can’t imagine
the beauty behind these walls. A
cozy backyard, with the cutest lights
and art decoration make the picture complete. A very proud Andre
showed me his colorful pieces of art
that really brighten up the place.
I was very impressed by the food
and service of Rozendaels that I
wanted to pay a visit again. This
time I thought, “I don’t have to make
a reservation, because normally
Mondays are very quiet..” I was so
wrong! We arrived at 6 pm and luckily we got a seat. At 7 pm the place
was packed with tourists.
The owner of Rozendaels welcomed
us very friendly and the waitresses
were very caring and helped us
immediately. To our surprise, the
waitress told us that the restaurant
is having a special this month. You
can choose from different starters,
main courses and desserts for 50
guilders. So, Angelique and I opted
for the three-course menu special.
Our starters appeared, most promptly. I opted for the “soup of the day”,
a nice and spicy chicken soup and
Angelique had the Caribbean pumpkin and carrot soup. We didn’t want
to have a heavy starter, because we
wanted to enjoy both the main dish

After a hectic day at work it was
time to relax and chitchat
with my best friend Angelique.
Monday’s on the island aren’t
so bad. You can sit outside, have
a nice drink, an exquisite dinner
and enjoy the beautiful sunset
after a long day of work. We
opted for Rozendaels, a
hidden cozy treasure
in Penstraat.
and dessert. The soup was just perfect! The main course surprised me
totally! Angelique had the famous
“A la Macho”, nice marinated tenderloin grilled with Chimichurri,
salsa rojo, and Curaçao’s original
sour onions sauce. She also opted
for French fries and salad. She was
thoroughly impressed by the meat,
so delicious!
On the other hand, I ordered “Dradu
krijojo style”. Dradu is one of the
most commonly eaten fish in Curaçao. I love krijojo food, so this was
just perfect! The dradu was seasoned to perfection and a sprinkle
of lemon made it perfect! Instead of
the common French fries, I ordered
funchi fries, a different taste that
makes this plate complete.
In the mean time, the waitresses
were always checking on us. If we
needed more drinks, if the food was
okay or if we had any questions.
The service was very nice and they
were very friendly.
The dessert was also a lovely surprise. Angelique had a nice Crema
catalana. She was so happy with
this choice. I opted for brownies.
My plate was huge and I also received a huge bowl of ice cream. I
was pretty full, so unfortunately
I couldn’t have it all. And
this was a Monday
on the island of
Curaçao. Aren’t
we blessed that
after work we can
enjoy a nice dinner
outside? My week
started out just right!
