The Palace will come alive on the afternoon of Sunday June 22 for a social affair of wonderful entertainment, drinks and nibbles which will bring the art space alive. More information on 4130 4876 Tax Help is a network of community volunteers who help people complete their tax returns during tax time. This is a free and confidential service. Volunteers are fully trained, accredited and supported by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). Good health is based on many factors including feeling good about yourself, being productive and valuable to your community, connecting to friends and maintaining an active body and an active mind. Becoming a member of a Men’s Shed gives a man that safe and busy environment where he can find many of these things in an atmosphere of oldfashioned mateship. And, importantly, there is no pressure. Men can just come and have a yarn and a cuppa if that is all they’re looking for. Men’s Shed These volunteers are people from within the community who give up their time each year. They are not ATO staff, but they receive training and support from us. Childers meet on Tuesday at Tax Help is suitable for people with simple tax affairs who earn around $50,000 a year or less. Dishes prepared included Besan & Spinach Pancakes with Tomato Chutney, Fruit & Nut Pilaf, Lamb Korma Curry, Chicken Curry, Roti bread and Gulgula (Indian donuts). Rivers have played a vital role in India’s popular culture and folklore—they have been worshipped as goddesses because they bring water to an otherwise dry land. Bathing in the Ganges in particular is thought to take away a person’s sins. It is not unusual to spread a loved one’s ashes in the Ganges. India has the world’s third largest road network at 1.9 million miles. It also has the world’s second largest rail network, which is the world’s largest civilian employer with 16 million workers. With 150,000 post offices, India has the largest postal network in the world. However, it is not unusual for a letter to take two weeks to travel just 30 miles. Additionally, Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism all originated in India. “Happiness is when what you think, what you say and what you do are in harmony”. Mahatma Ghandi An excellent day was had at under eights week with plenty of activities to keep the children busy. Thank you to all those who attended and to the schools and services that participated. With school holidays only weeks away we still have plenty happening at the Family Support Building; playgroups on Tuesdays and Fridays; support groups such as ABA and Parent Discussion Group on alternate Mondays. If you require any family support or just have a quick question, don’t forget that Shannyn and I are based at the Childers Neighbourhood Centre, or at playgroup, for you. Marnie and Shannyn Toddlers need 10-12 hours sleep a night. Most of them can do with an hour or two in the middle of the day as well. Once asleep, most toddlers sleep through most nights without waking mum or dad. But toddlers love to test their independence, so getting them to bed in the first place can be a challenge. Young children also get overtired easily. When they do, they find it harder to get to sleep. Once you can spot these telltale signs of tiredness, you’ll be able to settle your child to sleep before grumpiness sets in. A firm and consistent bedtime routine will be a big help. Understanding sleep and sleep patterns is an important starting point for helping your child develop healthy habits and a positive attitude towards sleep. Toddler sleep schedule A common daily sleep schedule looks like this: 7 am: wake up 1 pm: nap of no more than 2 hours 3 pm: wake up 7 pm: bedtime. If your toddler’s day nap is too long or too late in the day, your child might not be ready for bed until late at night. Some toddlers like to wake with the birds at 5.30 am or 6 am. Unfortunately, there isn’t much you can do about it. Putting your toddler to bed later at night in the hope of later starts in the morning doesn’t tend to work. Your toddler might still wake up early then be grouchy from too little sleep. If you live with an early riser, you might want to move your bedtime forward too. http://raisingchildren.net.au/articles/toddlers_sleep_nutshell.html Grizzling and crying can mean your child is absolutely exhausted, but its often hard to tell the difference between tired grizzling and hungry grizzling. Come along to your local group and meet new friends in your area. Childers Group meets at the Isis Child and Family Support building, 14 Hinkler Street. We have been busy with outdoor activities especially handball, Zumba and football. . Our motto this term has been practise makes perfect. The children have been conquering their fears such as sliding down the fire pole and climbing the monkey bar. Danielle was so delighted when she climbed the monkey bars and then learnt to also dismount by herself. Chelsea really wanted to jump from the fort to the sandpit and after facing her fear Chelsea made that leap and now there is no stopping her. The children have enjoyed the books ‘Funky Chicken’ and ‘Doug the Bug’. Nerissa often reads these books to her friends. Carl loves to get his groove on while dancing to the Funky chicken song. Over the last couple of weeks the children have been showing off their creative flair with Brodi creating a 3D nature collage and Nerissa and Danielle making animals out of sweet potatoes. Also, we are seeking any donations of dress up materials and recyclable objects. Shannyn Welcome Brodi Exercise Makes You Feel Good It feels good to have a strong, flexible body that can do all the activities you enjoy — like running, jumping, and playing with your friends. It's also fun to be good at something, like scoring a basket, hitting a home run, or perfecting a dive. But you may not know that exercising can actually put you in a better mood. When you exercise, your brain releases a chemical called endorphins (say: en-DOR-funz), which may make you feel happier. It's just another reason why exercise is cool! We would like to take this to opportunity to welcome Kylie to the team at OSHC. Kylie has successfully completed a Certificate 111 in Education Support and is currently enrolled to complete her Certificate 1V in Education Support. Kylie has brought new ideas and is settling in great, so say hello to her next time she is working. Zumba is a dance fitness program created by Colombian dancer during the 1990s.
