A newsletter produced for the Members of the Ventura Rheinland Club, the German-American Club of Ventura County, California.
From the President: Ralf Moll
O
ur annual International Friendship Dance
was enjoyed by all! Great food, great music by
the Express Band, and great people are the perfect
ingredients for a great time! One of the many things that
the Express Band is known for is the high-energy guitar
solo of “Ghost Riders in the Sky,” originally written in
1948 and later recorded by Johnny Cash, and we were
treated to this special performance.
Congratulations to Dorothy Clerc for the Best Female
Traditional Dress. She was beautifully dressed in traditional
Scottish attire. Andy Eggendorfer in his traditional
lederhosen was recognized for Best Male Traditional Dress.
We always enjoy seeing what people wear when they put
on the traditional clothes of their native land. It adds beauty
and honor to our various heritages.
I also want to take a moment to thank EVERYONE who
has a hand in the success of our monthly dances like this
one. It takes a lot of people behind the scenes and some
in front to put this together for our mutual enjoyment.
There are those who plan, those who purchase the
supplies and food, those who prepare and serve the
food, those who decorate the hall, those who take care
of admission, those who collect raffle prizes, those who
sell raffle tickets, those who clean up and those who do
everything in between. I also thank YOU for supporting
the Ventura Rheinland Club. We are always happy to see
familiar and new faces, because when we come together
for whatever reason we celebrate each other and our
friendship! I wish you all health and happiness as we
continue to come together and enjoy good times and
good fellowship!

Get Rewarded for A Great Decision! If you don’t have a computer or an email address, we will still be happy to mail your
bulletin directly to your home address. If you have a computer but not an email address, we’ll be happy to help set you up!
E
ven though we mail out the monthly bulletins to
each and every one of our members, the bulletin
doesn’t always get delivered. Sometimes, it can get lost or
destroyed.
In addition, each bulletin costs about $2, even though
a volunteer creates it on the computer, inserts the
photo page, folds each bulletin, and places sticker tabs,
labels and stamps -- a very time-consuming process.
The price includes the cost of supplies such as paper,
photocopying, sticker tabs for mailing, mailing labels,
and stamps. And once, we -- the Board -- discovered that
this bulletin represents about one-third of the annual
dues, we knew that we had to look for ways to save
money!

Skat Club
Skat is the national card game of
Germany. It was invented around
1810 in Altenburg, south of Leipzig,
Germany, by the members of the
Brommesche Tarok-Gesellschaft.
They adapted the existing local game
Schafkopf by adding features of
the then popular games Tarok and
l’Hombre.
The Skat Club will not meet
in September.
