Please bring a dessert to share. Thank you to everyone who joined us for the March dance. We had a lot of fun, and we hope to do it again on the 16th of April. It is always a great pleasure to see our Schuhplattlers perform. If you missed them in March, you will have another chance this month. The work on the clubhouse is coming right along. Barring any really bad weather, we should be on schedule for our opening in June. Keep an eye on the Echo for any updates. The Oktoberfest Committee is in full swing. They are planning on growing the festival again this year. We need lots of volunteers to help run the event. We will be counting on our members to come through and help make this successful. As soon as the signup sheets are available, we will let you know. If you want to have a part in running Oktoberfest, please contact Amy Dodd or Lis Lane. Ron Stierle and his crew have been working hard up in Morrison. If you has a few hours to donate to help cut grass, pull weeds, etc, please contact Ron to see how you can help. We are now on the Gunter Auerbach show. Over the air (antenna tv) at 23.6 on Sunday from 12-3 pm. Or listen online anytime at www.grtvd.com Julian, our cook will be back. He will be serving dinner for your enjoyment. Come out and have dinner and a dance. 1 Oktoberfest Committee Already!!!!!!?? No, but it is time to plan for this year. For all those who enjoyed our weekend and would like to be part of the planning, or for those who have ideas on how to make it better, WE NEED YOU. Senior CitizensTop of the Hill It is finally spring so we should start having nicer weather for our luncheons. We will meet on April 6th at 1 pm at our usual spot in the Country Buffet. If, however, we get a spring snow and you aren’t sure if we will meet, please call me. We want to send out our best wishes for Crystal Ashton, Mary Leister, and Louise Torres. These three ladies are a bit sick and need your thoughts and prayers. It has been a while since Jim and Inge Johnston were members of our group, as they moved away some years ago. We did receive word that Jim has passed on. For those that remember him, he will be missed. When there are a lot of committee members the work is not so hard. Call Amy Dodd at 303-378-7324 or Lis Lane 720-209-7819 to volunteer Elisabeth Burbach 303-288-9749 2 Traditions of Germany For many Americans, Oktoberfest is the major holiday to celebrate. Beer, dancing, and wurst are the highlight of every Oktoberfest celebrated in America. But in Germany, there is no need to wait for an entire yer to celebrate. Frühlingsfest comes every year and will run somewhere between the end of April and the start of May. Oktoberfest is only celebrated in Munich as a celebration of the wedding of King Ludwig. However, the Frühlingsfest is celebrated in other parts of Germany. One of the more popular festivals is the Muncher Fruhlingsfest. Smaller and less crowded than Oktoberfest, this is a favorite of the locals. With 2 beer tents and a covered bier garten serving up Helles and wheat bier. Some of the other attractions is the flea market, Bierkönigin and Oldtimer Cars. Friday nights, the sky is lit up with a beautiful fireworks display. Stuttgart is another town that has a Fruhlingsfest. It is celebrated along the Cannslatter Wasen, the traditional fairgrounds in Stuttgart’s Bad Cannslatt district. The Frühlingsfest starts on a Saturday with the traditional opening of a beer barrel by the Stuttgart mayor. The Fruit Column, a tall wooden structure decorated with fruits, was introduced to the Stuttgarter Frühlingsfest in 1995. Originally, it was only present at the autumn Volksfest, but in 1995, it was left to stand on the festival site all year round. However, in recent years, this practice was changed and once again the column began to be dismantled in the autumn of each year, leaving just the base. This base carries a large can during the Stuttgarter Frühlingsfest. So no matter where you travel to in Germany this spring, you can be sure there will be a festival to attend, fun to be had, and people to meet. 3 Schuhplattler News… As you read this, the Schuhplattlers will be heading to Detroit for the 26th Mittelwest Bezirksheimatfest (April 1st and 2nd) where our youth will demonstrate their hard-earned schuhplattling skills in exhibition and competition dancing. The weekend events are designed for the kids to learn more about their culture and connect with kids from the Midwest region who share the same passion. The kids have worked very hard for the past few months in preparation…we will post the results in the May Echo. In July and August we’ve got a rather large contingent heading to Bavaria to participate in the Lechgaufest (July 15-17 in Steingaden, Allgäu) and cheer on Aana, TJ, Maria and Michael as they compete at the Bayerischer Löwe the following weekend representing Edelweiss Denver and the United States. There are also several other representatives of the Gauverband Nordamerika who will be competing so we will be celebrating the accomplishments of many of our fellow Trachtlers! The end of July we will be joined by even more of our young Plattlers from Edelweiss Denver as thirteen of our young Schuhplattlers will be participating in the Jugend Austausch with our Patenverein D’Ammertaler Diessen. This is a biennial event in which hosting duties alternate between Denver and Diessen. This year we travel across the pond, spend about two weeks living in the homes of host families and participate in educational/cultural events. Both clubs feel it is great to have so many young people excited to learn and explore more about their cultural Happy April Birthday! 4/21 – Mike Mader 4/23 – Sarah Goetze 4/25 – Michael Rase 4/28 – Juliana Jenssen 4/30 – Monika Ledford heritage. For more information, call Lisa Wheeler, our rentals manager at 720-839-1276 5 Edelweiss Karnevals Gesellschaft Schützengruppe There is still time if anyone would like to attend the Las Vegas Schüetzenfest to be held April 24th - 26th, 2016. Rooms for this event will be held at the Fiesta Hotel and Casino of Henderson. You have to let Amy Dodd know asap if you want to go, so arrangements can be made. We would like to see the group start up again. If anyone is able to run the group, please contact Amy Dodd for all the contact information as well as how to do it. This group normally meets only once a month for 9 months out of the year and requires little planning. Unfortunately, our current leader is so busy that there is little time for any extra activities. With the thought of a new club house, we may once again have an indoor shooting range. We hope that this will bring the group back together. Helau! Our 2016 season was a success and now it's time to work on next season! Our next meeting is April 13, 2016 at 7:00 pm at Davie's Chuck Wagon Diner #2 on 26th & Kipling. Please join us for elections of officers and selecting a Prinz for the 2016/2017 season. We look forward to seeing everyone.
