The oldest preserved building is Partille Church, which was built back in the 13th century and the location of which in central Partille indicates that the centre has been in the same place ever since. The characteristic wooden clock tower was built in 1652. The Säveån River, which runs right through the district from east to west, has been of major significance for Partille. The fertile lands in the valley were cultivated early and there were a lot of farms in this area during the middle ages. At that time, Partille belonged to the Sävedal valley county district, which took its name from the Säveån and whose people were generally referred to as Sävedalings. ‘Säve’ is an old Swedish name for calm or slow and ‘ån’ is Swedish for small river; Säveån therefore means the calm or slow-moving river – the slow river. In addition to agriculture, forestry and transportation were important industries in Partille. The trading company, East India Co.’s director, David af Sandeberg, ordered the construction of Partille Manor House between the years of 1770 and 1780, now a landmark for anyone travelling through the district. During the 19th century, Sweden’s first industrial community was established in Jonsered. Scots William Gibson and Alexander Keiller built a sail and tent canvas factory, and this was also where Sweden’s first English-style terraced houses were built. Jonsered has now been classed as of national interest thanks to the well-kept cultural environment. The Paradise suburb in northern Partille was built in 1890. It was an exclusive area where manufacturers, office workers and city dwellers from the wealthier families built their houses. The houses were built of wood with characteristic national romantic details, such as mansard roofing, dormer windows, weatherboarding and overhanging bays. 4 PARTILLE In Partille, you are living at the heart of the good life. Living in nice, safe residential areas, with the countryside on your doorstep, yet still close to facilities and the pulsating life of the city. Despite the fact that the district is small geographically, it actually has a lot of relatively untouched countryside with beautiful walks. At the same time, this small geographic size of Partille means that it is always close to commercial and public facilities. At the heart of the district is the newly built Allum shopping centre and the district has a well established education and childcare system. Partille is also at the heart of the Gothenburg region. It takes just ten minutes to reach the centre of Gothenburg and enjoy the city’s leisure and cultural activities. It is just as fast, whether you take the car, train or bus. If you want to go further, Landvetter Airport with all of its global destinations is less than ten minutes drive from the district’s southern border. Partille is a financial, ecological and socially long-term sustainable district. That means that the district works to ensure its residents are happy with all aspects of their life and that the district has a stable economy that guarantees that the public service always achieves its set goals. In addition, environmental thinking is a natural part of all of the district’s decisions. For example, the district has replaced all fossil fuels with district heating and renewable sources of energy. One goal is for all residential construction to be carried out environmentally. Stefan Svensson (M) The Chairman of the City Council Partille’s small geographic size means that it is always close to commercial and public facilities. At the heart of the district is the newly built Allum shopping centre and the district has a well established education and childcare system. For the youngest residents, Partille has a well extended childcare system. The district’s pre-schools, where all children aged 1-5 years are welcome, offer a fun, educational and secure environment. This is where we lay the foundations for a lifetime of learning. In all of the residential areas there are family day-care centres for families that need help. In the autumn of 2008, childcare allowance was introduced, providing all parents with a greater opportunity to be at home longer with their child. Partille is a district under development. Approx. 34,000 people currently live here and there are approx. 2,500 companies in the district. We believe that Partille will only get better the more people decide to live and work here. Which is why we are investing in good accommodation, education, social services and trade and industry. Partille has modern housing. Most of the accommodation has been built during the past 25 years and there is a good mix of detached houses, privately owned flats and government owned rental properties. Geographically, Partille is a small district. This means that it is close to everything. Schools, shops and the countryside are all within walking and cycling distance from most of the homes in the district. Next to the motorway in central Partille is the new Allum shopping centre. With approx. 100 shops, Allum allows Partille residents to shop locally. It is also close to the world around it. Partille lies at the heart of the Gothenburg region. It takes just ten minutes to get to the centre of Gothenburg by bus, train or car and it is only 20 km to Landvetter Airport, with daily departures to the rest of the world. Thanks to the Västra Stambanan railway and the motorway that cuts right through the district, it is easy to commute to most of western Sweden. While the pulse of the city is close at hand, you are still very close to the countryside. The heavily hilled terrain to the south and north has limited the construction of housing. This is why there are still large areas of wilderness-like countryside in Partille. 6 PARTILLE Before the child begins preschool – they start the year they turn six that autumn – you must choose which school your child will attend. The district’s schools have the freedom to create their own profile and character and through the right to choose your own school you are given the opportunity to choose a school that suits each and every child. Before every school year, all schools are presented in detail in a brochure, where even the students’ contentment and knowledge is reviewed. Approx. 900 students attend the Porthälla High School in the centre of Partille. Recently, the number of students has increased significantly thanks to a major interest from students in other districts. It is never too late to join the school bench. In Partille, there is an adult education system for anyone wanting to move on in life. For example, there is adult high school education and qualified vocational training within architectural heritage, which is outstanding in Sweden. Partille also has a cultural school that offers courses in the most common musical instruments, dance and theatre. The cultural school is located in the newly built Partille Kulturum cultural house. There comes a time when we all need help, support and care from other people. Partille district has a well established care system for anyone that needs it. At the Family Centre there is a prenatal clinic, child welfare and an open pre-school. The Family House is preventative and helps families in need of support. The goal is to support the family and give parents and children the opportunity to develop under favourable and secure conditions. There are approx. 2,500 companies in Partille. Most are small or medium businesses and they cover a wide range of industries. In Partille there is everything from media production and service to trade and manufacturing. Partille’s location at the heart of the Gothenburg region, with approx. 900,000 inhabitants and a very sound infrastructure, thanks to the E20 motorway, Gothenburg’s harbour, the Västra Stambanan railway and Landvetter airport provides companies with a unique range of opportunities. The European market is just around the corner, but nevertheless we have more than enough inhabitants to provide a good basis for the local businesses. Our new shopping centre, Allum, with its 100 shops is one of a kind with its location next to the motorway and at the heart of the community. The fact that the bus station is under the shopping centre makes shopping even more convenient. We believe that Partille centre will become the leading shopping area in the east Gothenburg region. The district cooperates with local trade and industry to create a good business climate and growth for Partille. There are several employer networks and Partille belongs to the Business Region Göteborg, which strengthens and develops businesses in the Gothenburg region. Näringslivsenheten (the business unit) within the district and Företagarna i Partille (Businesses of Partille) organise a variety of different activities, including lunch seminars, lectures and business evenings. The purpose is to inform, strengthen and unite companies within the district. We are proud of our business history. In the mid 19th century, Sweden’s first industrial community was established in the district area of Jonsered. The buildings still house several small companies to this day. 8 PARTILLE The right to a dignified old age goes without saying in the Partille district. The geriatric care is for people over the age of 65 years. Our work is based on an individual needs basis. This means that we always try to attend to and take into consideration the individual’s needs. In the Partille district the so-called ‘kvarboende’ (remain in your own home) principle applies. This means that everyone is given the chance to remain in their own home, and receive the help they need on site. When this principle for various reasons is no longer possible, there is welfare housing and special housing for the elderly. Even here the ‘kvarboende’ principle applies as far as possible. By adapting our resources and satisfying the needs where they are, the individual does not have to relocate to new housing when they need more care and healthcare. The district cooperates with local trade and industry to create a good business climate and growth for Partille. There are several employer networks and Partille belongs to the Business Region Göteborg that strengthens and develops businesses in the Gothenburg region. 2 PARTILLE 9 CULTURE AND LEISURE ‚ THE COUNTRYSIDE AND NATURE ‚ There are plenty of opportunities to live an active life in Partille. Our new cultural house, Partille Kulturum, was opened in the autumn of 2007 and has a large stage for theatre, concerts and lectures, with seating for up to 400 people. Within the Kulturum is also a library, a cultural school, a high school, adult education, a youth centre, a café and an exhibition hall. At the cultural school there are several subjects for the curious. Here you can try out or take more advanced classes in music, rhythmics, dance, theatre/drama or art/design. The centre was built for the residents of Partille, with a particular focus on young people. For the district’s teenagers, there are a number of recreation centres with a varied selection of activities. The somewhat older youth attend the Youth House in the Kulturum cultural house. Where they arrange such things as the “Partillerocken” talent show, which attracts youth bands between the ages of 13-25 years from throughout western Sweden. Every year, Partille is home to the Partille Cup, the world’s largest youth handball tournament. Almost 1,000 teams from 50 nations participate in the indoor and outdoor handball tournament every year. The event is organised by IK Sävehof. In addition to handball, there are also a lot of other sports and hobby association in the district. There is something for everyone: horse riding, golf, football, tennis, floorball, scouts, etc. For people that just want some exercise, there are several illuminated ski tracks along Lake Kåsjön and in the southern Sävedalen valley. There is also a wonderful bathing area on Lake Kåsjön, with a sandy beach and a diving tower. You can also go swimming in the Björndammens indoor swimming pool, which is open all year round. 10 PARTILLE You are never far from nature in Partille. Despite the district being geographically small, there remain large undeveloped areas of wild forests and steep hills to the north and south. The Bokedalen nature reserve is one of the most exciting nature areas in the Gothenburg region. The beautiful walking tracks attract a lot of visitors each year. There is a 4 km nature walk through hilly terrain of open fields, beech forests, deciduous forests and pine forests. Many of the trees are more than 200 years old. In Bokedalen, there are a large number of rare and special plant and animal species, such as the wood pigeon, black woodpecker, lesser flycatcher, cross water trout, macrogastra plicatula, mussel lichen, black nerve moss and coral basidiomycota mushroom. There are plenty of good hiking opportunities in Partille. Both the Bohusleden (Bohus track) and the Vildmarksleden (Wilderness track) pass through the district and it is easy to join either of them for a short walk. Why not start out at Lake Kåsjön’s beautiful beach and follow the Bohus track along Lakes Prästjärn and Maderna, with their rich bird life, and then on up to the cultural landscape in Jonsered. One of the few remaining genuine salmon descendents in the country can be found in the Säveån River. To ensure better conditions for the salmon, Partille district has increased the amount of water in the river’s natural waterway together with the county administrative board, Vattenfall and Sportfiskarna. Fishing is permitted in several of the lakes, which are also much frequented bathing areas. There are a number of ways of living an active life in Partille and it’s never far to the countryside. Despite the district being geographically small, there are large undeveloped areas of forests and steep hills. Every year the Partille Cup is arranged, the world’s largest youth handball tournament. 2 PARTILLE 11 Idermark och Lagerwall reklam 2009.
