ACER on the Move
Year 07 ACER on the Move # 67 All you need to know, February 2013 First Play Day attracts 60 children Art – still one of the most powerful languages ‘A Chance to Play’ project’s first Play Day held. The first Play Day run by the ‘A Chance to Play’ project took place on 23rd February, as a twohour long practical training session (10.30-12.30). It seems the children had the time of their lives, and this is just the beginning. On the day a variety of activities were offered – face painting, colouring, balloon figures, skipping, conga line dances – and sweet treats such as popcorn and candy floss. You can also find ‘ACER on the move’ on the ACER Brasil website www.acerbrasil.org.br “ Around 60 children took part with the help of 20 activity monitors, supervised by Cristina da Cruz, community worker, and Marcio Luciano. The activities were due to start in Jatoba Street, by the Sapopema sports court, yet due to the rain they had to take place within ACER itself. Cristina found it a useful experience and a great opportunity to learn more about the community. “Being able to see the reality and the happiness of many children was very rewarding for me” Cristina da Cruz ” This Tuesday, the CMAP art club began its sessions, with a real focus on the children and young people taking part, in a reformed space to allow for freedom of expression and personal discovery. Anyone between 5 and 18 is welcome to come along; the sessions are free and take place every Monday and Wednesday at ACER. The CMAP art teachers voluntarily run sessions with a variety of themes, using many materials and techniques. The aim of the CMAP art club project is to establish a creative, safe and fun environment, in which ideas are explored freely and constructively. Every opinion is shared and care is taken to show that the ideas brought to the centre by the children are important. There is no desired outcome. The only rule governing the creativity is to respect one another; otherwise imagination takes us on a journey and who knows where we will end up? Those of you between 5 and 18 come and be creative and join CMAP on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6.30 until 8pm, in the ACER art room. Entry is free! “ Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ” Pablo Picasso Rhea McAteer, Khalil Titouhi e Thiago Lacerda ACER Brasil Culture Number of the month 196 Artisan craft lessons The number of people who received home visits in February by a member of our social work team.
