Absolute charm,
Retour aux Sources…
a few steps from Paris…
THE LUXURY OF HAVING TIME…
« Of which artist did Baudelaire remark that he painted with as much intelligence as love? He was
speaking of Jean-Baptiste Corot, one of the most singular artists of his time. It is in homage to his
talent that my friends Alice and Jérôme Tourbier have restored, with intelligence and love, the
superb Les Etangs de Corot where everything, from its light to its silence, is calming. There also
come to mind a film, Les Dimanches de Ville d’Avray, and a moment suspended in time. These are
the images that arise as one surrenders to the pampering of the teams at the hotel, restaurant and
Spa.
Close your eyes and savor the moment … »

A place coloured by history
The poetry of Les Etangs de Corot
A hamlet brimming with history
To the west of Paris, far from the bustle
of the city, sits Ville-d'Avray, the
birthplace of Les Etangs de Corot, a
protected community and haven for
numerous artists- and writers-in-residence
over the past two centuries. The village,
which was founded in the Middle Age at
the heart of a clearing in the forest, has
managed over the centuries to cultivate its
natural surroundings and the beauty of the
ponds that make it so particularly
attractive.
Upon its founding, the village was a rural,
wine-growing country, and vineyards
occupied more than one-third of
cultivated lands. The nearby presence of
the royal court, at Versailles, had a decisive
influence on this landscape and its
heritage.
During the 19th century, Ville-d'Avray
became a resort town, attracting numerous
personalities in the arts who came to relax
and restore their spirit at the water’s edge.
Artists, painters, writers and musicians
were drawn to the charms of the place and
found inspiration here.
The Parisian upper middle class of the day
appreciated the calm of what was still the
countryside, and built large properties that
seemed to float amid vast green gardens.
In the 20th century, the cultural tradition
continued to attract eminent personalities
such as writer Boris Vian. Today, Villed'Avray is classified as a historical
landmark. Its lovely legacy preserves its
attraction as a cultural haven that recalls the
rich memory of Corot’s artwork,
immortalizing its forest and ponds. These
are now known as “Les Etangs de Corot”
in homage to the forefather of the
Impressionists.
The ponds and their landscape,
Corot’s preferred refuge
The poetic creations of the celebrated
painter Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot were
inspired by the ponds along the hotel’s
gardens. This landscape of Impressionist
accents marked Corot’s paintings with soft
light. Young Jean-Baptiste Corot painted
his first landscapes of the village at the age
of 26. He acquired an unequalled style that
sets him apart from his contemporaries.
It is without a doubt the poet Baudelaire, an
art critic in his spare time, who best
summarized Corot’s work. He underscored
the painter’s talent for capturing nature
“with as much intelligence as love.” Today,
these words resonate and define the values
of the hotel.
An oasis of calm and a unique change
of scenery, just minutes from the heart
of Paris
Les Etangs de Corot sits like a crown jewel
in the heart of a bucolic environment that
miraculously has been left intact for over a
century and a half. The “Auberge Cabassud”
was once a celebrated open-air café known
as a guinguette, and enjoyed a large
following at the turn of the 20th century.
Today, Les Etangs de Corot is classified a
historical monument, a true haven of calm
sheltered from the noise and pollution of
the capital. In 2001 this hamlet became a
hotel, which was built to make the most of
its exceptional natural setting just outside
Paris city limits. It is a place of infinite
inspiration for Alice and Jérôme Tourbier,
founders of Les Sources de Caudalie*****,
near Bordeaux.
The immobile journey
Escaping everyday life without getting far away…
A haven of peace only 15 minutes
from Paris, Les Etangs de Corot hotel
is now a well-being destination in its
own right. It is an ideal escape for a
sunny afternoon or a long weekend
far from the stresses of the city and
the reality of daily life.
A stroll along the pond becomes an
escape into the heart of an
Impressionistic landscape…
With Caudalie Spa and 3 restaurants,
Les Etangs de Corot is a place
dedicated to well-being, serenity and
enjoyment, to get the feeling of having
a moment outside time.
The “immobile journey”: getting
away without going far away
Alice and Jérôme Tourbier have created
Les Etangs de Corot with an invitation
for an “immobile journey” in mind. This
exceptional journey represents their
vision of supreme luxury: the chance to
get away without having to go anywhere;
that of leaving behind urban cares and
everyday life in a matter of only 15
minutes. And for the foreign guests, it is
a perfect change of scenery after an
intense Parisian trip. It comes without the
constraints of jetlag or a long absence,
and fits right in with the pace of urban
lifestyle and growing concerns about
energy consumption. More than a
concept, Les Etangs de Corot responds
to a growing trend: that of rediscovering
the world next door.
A unique alchemy: Les Sources
de Caudalie comes to Paris!
The couple had already developed
this philosophy of immobile journey
in 1999 with Les Sources de
Caudalie*****, opened in the heart of
the family vineyard near Bordeaux,
the Château Smith Haut Lafitte, a
Graves Great Growth. The property
comprises a charming 5-star luxury
hotel, three restaurants and the
world’s first Caudalie Spa. It
promises a complete change of
scenery at the heart of the vineyard
only 15 minutes from the center of
Bordeaux.
Les Etangs de Corot offers to
guests the values of authenticity,
generosity and exception which
make the signature of Les Sources
de Caudalie, only 15 minutes from
the capital.
A gentle oasis of calm and absolute quiet…
Les Etangs de Corot has carefully preserved
its history and the heritage of this charming
spot, which inspired Corot and other
Impressionist painters. This delightful
hamlet of four interconnected houses was
transformed into a cozy, welcoming hotel
nestled among lush greenery close to the
forest of “Fausses Reposes” .
The combination of gardens and peaceful
buildings makes an interesting architectural
ensemble enlivened by varying heights,
shapes and plays of light that themselves
recall a Corot painting.
A decor that blends modernity with
bucolic, Impressionistic chic
By immersing themselves in the world of
the artist Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot, Alice
Tourbier and architect Yves Collet have
created a decorative ambiance that mixes
the cultural heritage of the site with a
bucolic note.
In keeping with the Impressionist painter’s
palette, the color scheme favors brown,
taupe and grey in the peaceful, softly lit
common areas, with more lively colors like
orange, gold and blue in the rooms. Alice
Tourbier’s
wine-making
roots
are
highlighted through an impressive wall of
2,500 bottles from the family château,
Smith Haut-Lafitte, which are not only
decorative but insulate the galleries on the
ground and first floors from the street
outside.
For each of the hotel’s 43 rooms, Alice
and Jérôme Tourbier opted for a
unique, personalized atmosphere. Floral
and striped wallpaper in shades of bluegrey or taupe wallpaper with printed
motifs from Farrow & Ball are
combined with country pieces, such as
a wooden sideboard or oversized
mirrors that lend romantic harmony to
the space.
To decorate the rooms, Alice Tourbier
sourced numerous pieces of antique
furniture, from old travel trunks to
wood secretaries and aged leather
armchairs, thus creating a visual
invitation to travel back in time .
In June 2010, Les Etangs de Corot
unveiled its most beautiful junior suite
entirely redecorated by the fashion
brand Paul&Joe and its designer Sophie
Albou. The kitsch and colourful world
of the brand shows with wallpaper
printed with Japanese fish or giant
decorative Japanese dolls.
To further enhance this unique
atmosphere, a private terrace was
especially conceived for the junior suite,
exuding a genuine “Paul&Joe” vibe and
offering guests the possibility to enjoy
the spectacular views over the ponds of
Ville d’Avray.

AUTHENTIC AND GOURMET RESTAURANTS
« Make the guest discover high quality, seasonal and carefully chosen
products is essential for me. There is a true story to tell here, an heritage to
honor, in the heart of this exceptional surroundings. I try to reflect this
story in my plates. »
Rémi Chambard,
Chef
Le Corot, an hunting house of the 21st century
Rémi Chambard : freshness, lightness and estheticism in the plates
2014 is the year to remember for Le Corot :
Rémi Chambard gets his first Michelin star.
After several experiences with the best
chefs as Jean Marie Gautier at l’Hôtel du
Palais in Biarritz, Didier Aniès, chef of
Grand Hôtel du Cap Ferrat, Rémi
Chambard became second-in-command of
Nicolas Masse at Les Sources de Caudalie
in 2009. 2 years later, at the age of 28, Alice
and Jerôme offered him to take the lead in
the kitchen of Les Etangs de Corot.
Le Corot : the french gourmet
tradition re-invented
The product is at the heart of Rémi
Chambard’ cooking. He always chooses
seasonal products, directly with the
suppliers.
He likes telling their history to his guests.
« The guests love I give them details. So I
confide them that I have found a saffron
producer on the Versailles market, or that
the poultry comes directly from a farm in
Normandy. »
Freshness and estheticism are in the plate
like with the crab cooked like a cannelloni
with watercress, lemon and radish. Or with
chanterelles associated to foie gras and
smoked eel.
The place reminds us its history too.
Reproductions of Corot’s paintings are
mixed pell-mell with stag head trophies
that recall the hunting culture of the
adjacent forest. This refined setting
opens on the gardens, a perfect place
for romantic diner as for business lunch.
The adjoining Debussy-Chopin room,
with its terrace overlooking the ponds,
is a lovely, discreet setting for a private
celebration.
Le Café des Artistes / Les Paillotes
Conviviality and enjoyment
An authentic setting under the vaulted ceilings of the
hamlet’s cellar, Le Café des Artistes is dedicated to
various personalities who frequented Ville-d’Avray.
“Bistronomy” dishes are served any time, accompanied
by a glass of wine served according to a system that lets
guests choose freely from a wide variety of “Grands
Crus”.
In this way, each guest may design a customized tasting
and savor the moment while comfortably seated in one
of the lounge’s leather armchairs.
Le Café des Artistes has been rewarded by one Bib
gourmand by Michelin Guide in 2014.
The terrace Les Paillotes recalls the
atypical ones of the early 20th
century, such as the region’s famous
“guinguettes”.
This
unexpected
landmark feature overlooks the pond
and promises, in fine weather, a
complete change of scenery.
From May to September, Les Paillotes
offers a subtle cuisine. Clients will
discover meals that will perfectly suit
to the place’s retro atmosphere and
bucolic charm.
Les nappes en papier à carreaux
grossiers deviennent chemins de
tables colorés, les moules-frites
disparaissent au profit d’un turbot au
beurre d’algue.
Paper tablecloths change into colored
table runners, mussels and fries into a
turbot with sea grass butter. Welcome
to the 2.0 guinguette!
This magical atmosphere invites to
remember the lunch on the grass that
loved so much the Impressionists.

THE SOURCE OF WELL-BEING…
« The Caudalie Spa is an exceptionnal parenthesis, where you feel an
incomparable revival. The Vinotherapists offer unique treatments, based on
the ancestral anti-oxidant power of the vine. Welcome at the source of
well-being… »

The Caudalie Spa
A promise of relaxation
It started with the original one in Bordeaux,
then another at Marquès De Riscal in Spain,
followed by one at the mythical Plaza in New
York. Finally, a Caudalie spa has arrived in the
Paris region. This Spa on the outskirts of the
city was created especially for those who love
treatments derived from the vine and from
grapes, located in an exceptional environment.
Pamper yourself and discover an oasis
of relaxation
Pass through the hotel lobby and step into this
new 7,500 sqft Spa. Its exceptional
countryside setting and sweeping view over a
peaceful pond makes this a perfect showcase
for Caudalie Spa. Designed by Yves Collet, the
architect of all the brand's Spas, the space
presents all the hallmarks that make Caudalie
Spas so special, from the upside down
bamboo garden to a somber color palette
illuminated by touches of color.
After the front desk and the fitness room is
the hammam area. Here, one perceives the
gentle music of water running over a stone
wall before continuing its course over a carpet
of pebbles to form an aquatic mirror over the
polished floor.
At its center is a large “indoor outdoor”
hot tub, where nature lovers can lounge to
admire the beautiful gardens.
The treatment area counts seven rooms,
including one VIP double room, to enjoy
massages with a friend or a partner. This
cabin also contains the famous Barrel Bath,
a giant bathtub of spa bath therapy.
Bursts of pink and lavender decorate each
treatment room painted in dark gray, like
little watercolors left behind by a passing
artist.
Treatment rooms offer an exceptional view
over the pond, with Venetian blinds
creating a moucharaby effect that allows
clients to gaze out without being seen as
they enjoy the benefits of a Crushed
Cabernet Scrub, a Honey and Wine Wrap,
or a Winemaker Massage.
