Buscom trunking...
a unique power and data backbone
Buscom is at the heart of Electrak’s lighting control solutions... distributing both
power and communications within a single busbar trunking system, it provides a
lexible and simple alternative to traditional wiring installations.
THE HEART OF YOUR LIGHTING CONTROL SYSTEM
Installing a matrix of Buscom trunking in the ceiling void creates an accessible power and
communications backbone throughout a building. The backbone can be tapped into at any point to
facilitate instant connection to power and control circuits.
Buscom incorporates a shielded twisted pair communications bus inside each length and tap-off,
and is suitable for use with any lighting control protocol, including: KNX, LonWorks and DALI.
MODULAR. FLEXIBLE. SIMPLE.
Trunking lengths simply push it together, saving time and money on installation. With cable
terminations only required for power and control circuits in the feed unit, Buscom delivers a plug
and play solution that allows for future lighting layout changes to be made quickly and eficiently,
whilst drastically reducing the potential points of failure in comparison with traditional wiring
methods.
04
• Power and communications within a single

Buscom adds a new dimension to lighting busbar that extends the unquestionable
plug and play advantages from the power circuit to the control circuit. This unique
system for distributing lighting control signals delivers unrivalled flexibility,
regardless of the location of the intelligence...
INTELLIGENCE IN THE PANEL
INTELLIGENCE IN THE BUSBAR
Lighting control modules
located in a central cabinet are
connected to the Buscom system
via communication circuits that
terminate in the feed unit. Control
signals are then distributed
along the trunking run and made
available at any tap-off outlet.
Integrating lighting control
technology into the Buscom feed
unit is particularly effective for
DALI control. Each trunking run
converts to an individual DALI
network into which luminaires can
tap-in at any point.
INTELLIGENCE IN THE LCU
Lighting control units (LCUs)
are mounted onto and plugged
into Buscom trunking, providing
a hub into which multiples of
luminaires and switching devices
are plugged. Buscom’s integrated
communication bus provides the
backbone which networks all
control devices together.

seamless integration with your
technology of choice
The Lightrak system operates over a KNX backbone. This
enables all control devices connected to the system to
communicate with each other, and facilitates seamless
interoperability with any KNX certified product.
KNX PROTOCOL SYSTEMS
KNX is the worldwide standard for all applications
in home and building control, ranging from lighting
and shutter control to security, HVAC, metering and
energy management. With close to 300 members and
approximately 7000 certified product ranges, the KNX
Association holds partnership agreements with over
30,000 installer companies in over 100 countries.
All products bearing the KNX logo are certified in order
to guarantee system compatibility, interworking and
interoperability and are commissioned via a single,
manufacturer independent design and commissioning tool.
LEFT: KNX was used as the underlying technology at
Terminal 5, Heathrow... possibly the largest lighting

DALI: DIGITAL LIGHTING CONTROL
DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) is a protocol
dedicated purely to lighting control, as set out in the
technical standard IEC 62386. Each unit in a DALI network
has its own address, allowing direct communication with
each individual itting.
DALI FEATURE
IMAGE
TECHNICAL FEATURES
The information low with DALI is bi-directional. Rather
than only giving commands about the light level from the
control system to the itting, DALI also enables information
feedback on the condition of the ittings.
The itting can transmit information related to:
• whether the light is switched on or off
• the preset light level
• the ballast condition
Therefore DALI is ideal for use with building automation
systems where remote supervising and service reports are
required.
11
DELIVERING DALI EMERGENCY FEEDBACK
The DALI lighting control unit (LCU) incorporates a
KNX to DALI interface that enables full DALI control in
addressable mode, and also facilitates the feedback from
the DALI network back onto the KNX bus.
Utilising widely available KNX gateways, this DALI
feedback can then be fed into building management
systems (BMS) or other monitoring and reporting software,
allowing emergency lighting test data to be logged and
alarms raised should essential maintenance be required.
For more information about DALI, visit: www.dali-ag.org

The simple way to instant
energy savings
Combining lighting management sensors with traditional light switches puts users in
complete control. Lights can be manually switched on and off or, if users forget to switch
off lights, the sensors will do so automatically.
EVEN GREATER SAVINGS
Independent research shows that the
added control available through using
absence detection can provide an
additional 10% energy saving over and
above the significant savings already
offered by presence detection.
IN DARKNESS
Users feel in complete control by turning on
lights using a traditional switch, typically located
by the door
IN BRIGHT LIGHT
The sensor will automatically switch off lights to
save energy when available light is sufficient
(although lights can still be switched on if preferred)*
IN NORMAL
LIGHT
IN WEAK LIGHT
The sensor will automatically switch on lights
when movement is detected and available light
is insufficient*
When leaving the room, lights can be manually
turned off using a switch. If lights are not turned
off, the occupancy sensor will do so automatically

THE RIGHT TECHNOLOGY
FOR EVERY ENVIRONMENT
Legrand lighting management
solutions are available in three
different technologies to provide
effective occupancy detection in
different environments... all of which
can be controlled and commissioned
remotely at the touch of a button.
For small, enclosed spaces
PIR sensors detect occupancy
using the heat difference between
people and the ambient space.
For large spaces and open
areas Ultrasonic sensors
transmit sound waves throughout an
area and measure the speed at which
they come back.
For spaces with low or
infrequent movement from
occupants Dual technology, as the
name suggests, combines both
infra-red and ultrasonic detection.
13
REMOTE CONFIGURATORS FOR INSTANT
PROGRAMMING OF EACH SENSOR
Sensors can be quickly and easily re-configured at the touch of a button,
and without the need to ever remove the sensors from the ceiling... putting
users in complete control and reducing health and safety risks.
• Advanced commissioning tool with LCD display
- Precise digital programming
- Instant visibility of individual sensor settings
- PIR / ultrasonic priority preferences for dual technology sensors
• Basic commissioning tool
- Pre-programmed settings
Save time. Save money. And, of course, save energy.

sub-bus sensors technical information
n Ceiling mounting
All sub-bus sensors have built-in bracket systems that
enable ceiling mounting. Most sensors are suitable for
standard EU boxes (Ø 65). This is important for applications
where the ceiling is unavailable for sensor installation. Only
one Cat. No. is required for two ways of mounting

n Wall mounting
Wall mounting sensors are supplied with mounting base
Simply ix base to the wall, connect wires to the automatic
wiring block and ix sensor to base
n Settings
Most sensors feature Smart Factory Set technology. Adjustments are
typically not needed after installation
If adjustments need to be made (due to last minute changes in furniture
or ixture placement), sensitivity and time delays should match the
activity levels of the monitored spaces
Hand-held commissioning tool can be used to adjust settings :
This commissioning tool enables a very precise
commissioning of your sensors :
- Time: from 0 seconds to 60 min
- Lux: from 1 lux to 1 275 lux
- Detection mode : presence, presence
walkthrough, absence modes
- PIR and US detection sensibility : low, medium,
high, very high
- Provides access to advanced functions such as
calibration, alarms, choice of mode of detection
(initial detection, maintain detection, retrigger),
daylight function
- Allows downloading, saving and duplication of
sensor parameters

Durability
Electrak power and communications distribution systems are well designed and extremely robust. They can be expected to stand up to all normal
site conditions Electrak has been short circuit strength tested by ASTA
Earth fault loop impedance
BS 7671 : 2008 IEE Wiring Regulations require accurate determination of the total earth loop impedance, which must be sufficiently low to allow
the protective device to operate within the specified time, which for socket outlets is 0·4 seconds
The values relevant to Electrak for calculating the earth fault loop impedance are shown in the electrical test data table, see opposite

Notes
1. Where trunking joints occur in the middle of the suspension span, and weight is to be suspended from that point, it is recommened to use a
strenghting bracket EEC364 over the joint to stop deflection
2. If the load requirements exceed the above figures, please contact us on +44 (0) 845 600 6266
For design information and technical specification, please contact us on +44 (0) 845 600 6266
Suspension rods and fixings should be of suitable size to carry the weight of both the track and suspended load

Electrak® buscom trunking
installation
n Design and installation
Electrak’s buscom trunking system comprises continuous lengths of galvanised steel trunking available in 2 m and 3 m lengths with integral
connectors and regular tap-off outlets on one or both sides
Each trunking run commences with a feed unit for electrical and comms bus cable termination. The connection between the trunking, the feed
unit and subsequent trunking lengths is push fit and requires no tools to terminate the connection or ensure good earthing. Each complete track
run is finished with an end stop. Flexible lengths can be used to overcome obstructions or used as corners where required
The trunking system is available with IP 4X or IP 54 ingress protection, fully factory tested and ASTA approved to BS EN 60439-2 : 2008
