Here it is almost fall and summer is coming to an end. Two Creeks board is inviting
all our area citizens and businesses to join us at our annual meeting. This year our
meeting will be Tuesday October 14, 2014 from 6:30 – 8:00 PM at The Lamar Station Crossing Apartments 6150 West 13th Ave. This is your chance as a resident or
business owner in our area to hear about updates, ongoing projects and provide input
and questions concerning YOUR neighborhood.
The agenda will include our election of officers and board members. If you are interested in serving on the Two Creeks board in any capacity, please notify either of our
co-chairs, Maddie Nichols at 303-237-0054 or ranzell@juno.com, or Debby Kirschenman at 303-916-5913 or dndr@comcast.net no later than October 7th. We
would welcome any resident who would like to become involved in the planning and
improvement of YOUR neighborhood.
We will have staff from the City of Lakewood, Ward 2 Council persons, Lakewood
police and other pertinent guest speakers to inform you about the happenings in
YOUR neighborhood. There will also be time for questions and citizen input.
Circle October 14th on your calendar today and plan to attend and be an active participant in what occurs in YOUR neighborhood. The Two Creeks board can’t advocate for your needs and desires for the neighborhood unless you tell us what is important to you. Your attendance at this meeting is important, much needed and appreciated!

Exciting things are happening at The Mountair Park
Community Farm promising to make for a very busy
upcoming schedule! The vegetable stand will be open at
the Mountair Park parking lot (just west of 14th and Depew) every Friday from 4-6 p.m. until Halloween.
Volunteer days at the farm are every Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Come see what’s growing and
help for as little or as long as you like!
On Saturday, September 13, the farm will be hosting an
all day Homesteading Festival. The focus of this event
will be on preserving the harvest and producing more
food in your own backyard. Classes include beekeeping,
chicken keeping, cheese making, drying, canning, making fresh salsa, making sauerkraut and more. For more
information and to register, please go to
www.sproutcityfarms.org or visit the events section of
“Sprout City Farms” on Facebook.
Join the fun and make a difference! Tutor a child in
Whiz Kids!
In the coming weeks you may notice folks in bright yellow t-shirts looking at houses and buildings in the Colfax corridor. These are volunteers identifying potential
historic buildings one block north and south of Colfax
Ave. This survey is being sponsored by the History
Colorado State Historical Fund, 40 West Arts District,
West Colfax Business Improvement District, MorganAngel Associates LLC and the City of Lakewood.
A fun kid-oriented Halloween event is also in the works
and a selection of classes will be offered over the winter
and early spring with topics ranging from “starting your
own home-based food business” to seed starting and indoor gardening. Like the farm on Facebook or sign up
for the email list at www.sproutcityfarms.org to keep up
to date on news.
Volunteers are needed to help do the field work for this
historic project. It is fun, interesting and will make you
more aware of architecture and the history of your
neighborhood. Field work has been mostly scheduled for
Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. If you are interested in helping with this project and learning more about your
neighborhood history, contact Kris or Bob Autobee at
robert@morganangel.com or call 303-906-7829.
This is OUR community farm so if
you have an educational topic you
wish to see offered, want to know
ways to get involved, or have any
other feedback on how the farm
can better serve our community,
please let us know!
Whiz Kids
Whiz Kids is a program that is helping
our neighborhood kids succeed. This non
-profit program began in 1990 through
the collaboration of churches, schools,
community and business leaders in the
Denver area. What was once a group
with just 3 locations now has over 50
sites and helps more than 800 elementary and middle school kids navigate
their way through any challenges they may encounter in
their studies. The Two Creeks group which meets Tuesday and Thursday nights during the school year at
Mountair Christian Church at 1390 Benton Street, could
use more tutors. Want to help make your neighborhood a

Ghost Posts
Fall is almost upon us again; that time of year when the
sound of football games and the smell of fireplaces drift
over the crisp air, apple and pumpkin treats are abundant
and kids start planning what costume they’re going to
wear for Halloween. That means we are again looking
for people to participate in our annual Safe Halloween
initiative by hosting Ghost Posts. This not only helps
keep our little “spooks” safe, it also keeps the egging
and pumpkin-smashing to a minimum. So what’s involved? It’s quite simple really. Just bring a table, some
chairs, perhaps some hot cider or snacks and your treat
give-aways outside and sit at the curb to keep an eye on
what’s happening on your street. Join together with a
neighbor and catch up with them while you wait for trick
-or-treaters. If you choose to do this please let us know.
If we get enough participants we can place a list of
Ghost Posts on our website for you to look out for. We’d
love to hear what ideas you come up with. And don’t
forget to look for your Halloween door hangers on our
website.
Stop by to visit to find out the estimated costs and time
to restore your computer. Best yet – he is just around the
corner.
Two Creeks Area
Restaurant Review
By Debby Kirschenman-Reynolds
Formerly known as El Manantial, Max’s Mexican Restaurant located at 6999 W Colfax Ave has recently
changed names and has been redecorated. While not
fancy, the outside has received a fresh coat of paint and
he inside, though completely no frills, is clean and accommodating with friendly employees. They have a
broad menu, with both Mexican and American
choices. We tried the smothered burrito supreme and
steak soft shell tacos. Though we have enjoyed better
burritos elsewhere and the green chili was not the best,
the steak tacos were good. But if you’re looking for a
local place where you can have Mexican food while the
kids have American this may be the place to try.
Tips for a Safe Halloween
Offer only prepackaged or non- edible treats
Have your porch or “Ghost Post” well lit
Use extreme care with candles, or use another source to light pumpkins
Wear safe costumes: make sure you can see,
be seen, and walk or run safely
Trick or treat in groups, with an adult
Have parents check all treats before eating
