From: Laurie Bellows Sent: Tuesday, April 12, 2016 4:32 PM Subject: Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL) Dear Colleagues, I’m writing with some exciting news for your graduate students. We recently accepted an invitation to join
the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning(CIRTL) Network, a consortium of over 46
institutions that promote proven teaching and mentoring techniques for STEM graduate students. For more
information on the CIRTL Network, visit the website here: http://www.cirtl.net
As a member of CIRTL, UNL will develop programs and resources built on the CIRTL core ideas: Teaching-asResearch, Learning Communities, and Learning-through-Diversity. This new local learning community will offer a
robust schedule of courses, programs, events, internships and resources. In addition, it will collaborate on crossnetwork projects with CIRTL partners and participate in national offerings. While STEM is the focus of
CIRTL, graduate students from any discipline will be invited to participate in CIRTL
offerings.
We’re currently working on a dedicated CIRTL website and will send you the link once it’s finalized. Also,
Graduate Studies will officially kick-off CIRTL activities in the fall with a workshop for graduate students and a
lunch for graduate chairs. Watch your email for more details. In the meantime, we’ll share CIRTL events advertised
in the CIRTL Network Newsletter.
Joining the CIRTL Network is part of our continued efforts to design and deliver effective programs that add value
to the academic and professional development of graduate students. Faculty interested in offering courses, programs, or events through CIRTL should contact Neal Bryan (nbryan2@unl.edu), our CIRTL institutional
leader.
We look forward to working with you and your students on this exciting new initiative.
Best,
Laurie
